Verreynne 11, Harmer 4
Oh! Did that carry?!
An edge from Kyle Verreynne, dabbling outside off stump, and it drops just short of a diving Ben Foakes. That kept horribly low, and Foakes has done well to get a glove to it.

Changed position on the sofa at lunch. Moved back to original position after tea. Have taken four wickets from here so not moving now.

There's a fella in the crowd who is absolutely fast asleep on the shoulder of the person next to him. It's a long old day.
Simon Harmer, meanwhile, shows some stoic defence, including somehow avoiding gloving another rising delivery behind.

What a spell from Ben Stokes after tea. A scintillating delivery to dismiss Keegan Petersen. He's just the man, grabs the moment and says 'I'm going to change the game for England.'

I'm sort of curious to see if England end up having to take a review here, just so we finally know who the vice-captain is.
A nice flick from Simon Harmer adds a couple of runs to South Africa's total, before he's beaten all ends up by Jack Leach. Leach wants to send it upstairs, but whoever the vice-captain is says no, and Ben Stokes makes his way back onto the field.

Any suggestions for things to do in Manchester tomorrow? Doubt we'll be needing these day four tickets...

Rostance is now banned for however long this Test lasts.
Now, there's no official England vice-captain so I don't know who is technically in charge here...

Adam Goldberg: Great thinking from Ben Stokes bringing back Amy Lofthouse to the live text after tea! We have a partnership breaker.
Simon Harmer nudges a single off his hip to get off the mark and wrap up another succesful over for Ben Stokes, who is now heading off the field.
Simon Harmer, four slips lurking, has come out to join Kyle Verreynne.
It has got dark at Old Trafford...

What a beautiful delivery! Ben Stokes looks like he's in a great rhythm and that just proves it. The angle in drew Petersen into the shot. A peach, a jaffa, any other fruit you can imagine! Stokes decided he was the man to break the partnership.

Ben Stokes, though.
Short, angled, right into Keegan Petersen's body, and he has to poke at it. The ball hits the shoulder of the bat and flies through to Ben Foakes, who takes a very good catch. Some extra bouce and Petersen is on his way.

BBC Test Match Special statistician
In his last three Tests Ben Stokes has taken 11 wickets for 180 at an average of 16.3.
Keegan Petersen advances to a couple of deliveries, shaping to go over the top, but there's nothing doing and that'll be a maiden.
Jack Leach will open up from the other end after tea.

That's a lovely shot from Kyle Verreynne, swatting away a pull to pick up another four to end the over.
Ben Stokes collects his cap, his over done - and he's going to have to go back and bowl it again, because that's another no-ball.

You just got the feeling that something might happen after tea.
Kyle Verreynne is the new batter for South Africa and gets off the mark in slightly streaky fashion, a thick outside edge flying past the slip cordon and away for four.
