Great news! It was just a passing shower and so long as it stays dry, we are less 25 minutes away from live Test cricket!

The umpires are walking off quite properly so I think we will hear a definitive decision quite soon.

They are rolling up the covers!
I don't think what rain we have just had will make any difference to the umpires' decision.

Rick Harris: Don’t you think you’re getting just a tad ahead of yourselves, extolling the new English aggressive Test style? It’s been done for three Tests in English conditions. Can we just wait to see how it does in Australia or India before declaring world domination?!
Come on, Rick, series like that New Zealand one have to be enjoyed. There's no harm in getting a little overexcited every so often, is there?
Right on cue, the rain has returned. Hopefully just a passing shower but that is likely to delay the pitch inspection.
It could be one of those days.

There is a little bit more rain in the air.

Theo Cook: According to Google the rain ought to have stopped by three, so there should be a reasonable amount of play still today.
More encouraging scenes at Edgbaston. Only the main hover cover on the pitch remains, all other covers have been removed.
It looks nice and bright, too. Fingers crossed for good news from the next pitch inspection.

One of the major things to think about when you travel is your food habits. But that shouldn't be a problem for India here. Wherever you go in England you can get good Asian food, especially in Birmingham.

The Super Sopper has gone up and down and up and down over the covers. We are now just left with some puddles on the outfield that should drain away pretty quickly.
The sun has come out too.
There are a couple of small areas of standing water on the outfield. Inspection begets inspection. The umps will be out for another look in about 25 minutes.
The umpires are out, pottering around on the edge of the square, pausing occasionally to have a stamp and a poke and a prod with an umbrella.
Only a very brief discussion with the ground staff before continuing on their lap around the covers.
It'll be Anderson v Kohli, round four, when play does get back underway. Just a couple of minutes until the umpires will be out to take a look.

Jimmy Anderson has taken both the wickets to fall, Matt Potts should have added another wicket to his tally but it has been a good effort from the England bowlers so far. They'll need to be close to their best as it does look like a pretty good pitch.
The rain arrived a couple of overs after the wicket so this is where we're up to.
Crawley quickly made amends in the next over. A beauty from Anderson - probing line, a touch full of a length and shaping away - locating Pujara's edge and the ball flew straight to second slip.
With Pujara opening, Hanuma Vihari was in at number three. He was still out there when the rain came but did not look comfortable and had a life on seven when an outside edge off Matt Potts was dropped by Crawley.
Cheteshwar Pujara was called into action as a makeshift opener for India with both Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul missing. He was typically dogged in his approach and had to overturn a caught behind decision off Stuart Broad. The ball was shown to have flicked his pocket rather than the inside edge.
