Re. Jack Gilbert (13:58). That cunning plan might have merit, were it not for the fact that this is England, where it's been known to rain at 10:30am.

After blocking a couple of deliveries, Kohli hands the strike back to Pant with a single into the covers. Anderson promptly beats the left-hander on the outside edge, swinging it away from him and finding a hint of extra bounce.

A classic Rishabh Pant walk down the pitch. He's maybe shown his hand a little bit too soon now, though. James Anderson is able to just drag his length back when he sees him going walkabout. Its a game of cat and mouse between the two of them now.
Here we go! Pant is down the track to Anderson straightaway! Anderson spotted him and dragged his length back a touch. A thick inside edge dribbles towards backward square leg and India take the single.

Arjun Singh: I think Potts is my favourite new player in this squad. Love his attitude and application: he just looks the real deal.
Pant defends his first ball towards mid-off and starts to set off for a single before thinking better of it. Ben Stokes was the fielder and looked astonished that Pant would even consider taking him on!
A single worked through square leg gets Pant up and running. The ball comes back in and England are trying to get it changed already. No luck on this occasion and Kohli glances the last ball of the over fine, four runs.
Rishabh Pant is the new man in at five. One way or another, you can expect fireworks!

That's well bowled by Matthew Potts. It has hit Vihari on the knee roll and when it strikes you there you know you are in trouble.

Virat Kohli's advice was don't bother reviewing! The cheer goes up from the Eric Hollies stands and he's on his way.
Vihari lbw b Potts 20 (Ind 64-3)
That is plumb! Superb from Potts again, it's a nip-backer to Vihari and it raps him on the front pad at shin height.
There is a brief chat with Kohli but no review. England have their third.

This is the battle we get most excited about. James Anderson v Virat Kohli. We've seen the stats but they are just two trojans of the game. Kohli has been quite smart so far, he hasn't got himself bogged down and just nudged himself off strike.
Vihari gets himself off strike second ball of the over as he defends towards point. That gives us a first look at Anderson v Kohli this afternoon. The England bowler sends down a big in-swinger but the former India captain is equal to it, blocking to point for a single of his own.
Vihari then guides the last ball wide of gully for two. Steady start to the session.

James Hobbs: Jack Gilbert’s point at 13:58 is a good one but my understanding was that 11am was used as a start time as it meant people started travelling to games after 9am, thus avoiding rush hour. Starting later and finishing later avoids all that.
Vihari 14, Kohli 5
Good from Potts to finish off the over. There is a bit of shape away from the right-hander but Kohli is happy to leave anything wide of off.
Jimmy Anderson will get things going again from the other end.
A boundary first ball after the break - albeit a streaky one! Virat Kohli tries to push the ball into the offside but gets a thick inside edge that sends the ball just past his stumps and down to the fine leg boundary.

England have five slips in place for Matthew Potts here. That's how attacking England are going to Virat Kohli after the rain delay.
We're ready to go! The players are back out, there are blue skies over Edgbaston and Matt Potts is at the end of his run-up, he's set to complete the over he started before the rain arrived.
Right then, this is how things will work for the remainder of the day (weather permitting):
With the extra half hour to complete the overs - they'll try to bowl 84 today - they can play until 19:00 BST. Tomorrow they will try for 97 overs.

Mark Burt: As Kane Williamson discovered, Potts likes getting out world class batters. Kohli beware.
The restart is edging closer and after removing both openers, England have a chance to really put the pressure on India.
Hanuma Vihari was struggling before the rain delay and will have to get himself reacclimatised with conditions, while Virat Kohli will renew his rivalry with Jimmy Anderson. It should be fun!
