That last ball really moved away and did everything but take the outside edge.
Hanuma Vihari gets off the mark with a push into the off side for two.
James Anderson ends the over with an absolute beauty. Getting one to swing and seam, flashing past Vihari's outside edge.

You just get the feeling this India top-order could be fragile.
Hanuma Vihari, is the new batter and there is a huge appeal from England as James Anderson smacks into his pads first up. The umpire says not out and England decline the appeal.
The next delivery keeps low and Vihari plays an inside edge onto his pads.
It's all happening.

Just short of a length from Anderson and Gill followed it, just had a nibble. That's the first one that has really bounced. It carries nicely to Crawley, who takes the catch. Just a bit of bounce and away movement for Anderson.
Gill c Crawley b Anderson 17 (Ind 27-1)
Breakthrough!
Commentators curse from Phil Tufnell as Shubman Gill is lured into a waft outside off stump and edges through to Zak Crawley at second slip.

Gill looks like he has all the time in the world. He looks a superstar in the making.
Another four for Shubman Gill as he opens the face of the bat and nudges the ball down to third man.
Gill is 17 from 23 deliveries with four boundaries already.
Shubman Gill is looking good nick as he pounces on a shortish delivery from Stuart Broad and pulls it through the onside for four.
Great shot.

Mark Burt: Just throwing this out there but reckon Potts is going to dynamite today. Think this pitch might suit him.

Another one beats the bat. Pujara rather nervously fiddled at it.
Textbook. Overpitched from James Anderson and Shubman Gill plays another fine drive that fizzes through mid-off four.
Excellent response from Anderson though, as he gets one to drift away from Gill and just misses the outside edge.
A single brings Cheteshwar Pujara on strike and another fine delivery to end the over beats Pujara all ends up.
Ooohs and ahhhs from the England slips.

Ben Foakes on the cover of the programme. Covid and injuries ruining the plans of the editor.
Stuart Broad finds Cheteshwar Pujara's edge but it is played with soft hands and lands way short of third slip again.

Broad pushed that up there to see what's happening but there doesn't seem to be a lot happening. It looks a good pitch and it was easy enough for Pujara to just push it back past him.
Lovely shot.
Stuart Broad goes full but Cheteshwar Pujara isn't troubled as he plays a drive straight down the ground for four.

Just didn't carry. Bairstow did his best to get there but it bounced a couple of feet short of him. Bairstow looks at where he's standing and shuffles forward a little bit.
They've all moved forward a pace. I'd much rather have a catch dropped than it not carry.
Edged....but short!
James Anderson finds the edge of Shubman Gill's bat but it drops short of Jonny Bairstow at third slip.
Anderson's next delivery beats Gill all ends up but reaches Sam Billings on the bounce. There doesn't appear to be a lot of carry in this surface.
Billings and the slip cordon edge forward slightly.

Fenners: I'm not overly keen on this 'bowl first' mindset, despite our recent results. If it's not totally clear then I've always thought it's bat first. I'm happy to be proved wrong though!

I like this field, it shows what this new England are about. There are four slips and no one at point. Even last year that was a given but Pujara isn't one to flash it through there so they've left it open. I like this, it's attacking.
