I would rather be India at the moment. The quick wickets after tea put them back in front but you can see how these two are really trying to seize that momentum back.

  2. Eng 157-3published at 38 overs

    Target 378

A busy first over back from Mohammed Siraj.

He's a very talented bowler so England will have to respect him.

You'll think they'll want to target someone in this innings though. Could that be Shardul Thakur?

Is he a step too close? That absolutely raced to him.

It went to him very quickly but at a catchable height. It's just gone straight through.

  5. dropped catch

Bairstow dropped on 14published at 37.4 overs

A big booming drive again from Jonny Bairstow, but there is a thick outside edge this time, and the ball flies through the hands of Hanuma Vihari at second slip.

That could be a big moment. It was through him before he even moved.

  6. Postpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 4 July 2022

One for the younger audiences there, Tuffers.

That's like Adam and the Ants. Stand and deliver.

  8. Eng 153-3published at 37.1 overs

    Target 378

Hmmm. India are making a change. Mohammed Shami is off and Mohammed Siraj is on. I'm surprised by that because Shami was causing some issues and he only bowled a three-over spell.

Siraj is greeted by a booming Jonny Bairstow for four. Shot, lad.

It came off the edge of the bat. He got a bit lucky but a definite change of approach from Root.

Will India change the field now?

It looks like Root is going to take Jadeja on now.

  11. Eng 149-3published at 37 overs

    Target 378

    Joe Root.

It looks like a change of tactics against Ravindra Jadeja as he gets down on one knee and paddle sweeps fine for four.

He does it again, and there's a top edge this time, and it spins away, almost behind slip and away for four more.

    A productive over for England.

Shami is getting the ball to reverse now.

  13. Eng 141-3published at 36 overs

    Target 378

England seem happy to just rotate the strike and get some overs into the legs of the Indian bowlers. It's a bit of light relief from the crash, bang, wallop that we've seen all summer.

We can play until 18:30 BST tonight by the way. There are 23 overs left, so we might actually be done before then with Ravindra Jadeja bowling.

Here are the three wickets to fall since the ball got changed...

It's got to stop, it's ruining the game.

It takes out the fundamental skill of batting where a batsman sees off the new ball and then is able to reap the rewards from the older one.

Something has got to be done about it. It completely changes the flow of the game.

  16. How's stat?!published at 16:51 British Summer Time 4 July 2022

    Andy Zaltzman
    BBC Test Match Special statistician

Since India got a new ball at 106-0, there have been just 32 runs scored and three wickets.

  17. Eng 138-3published at 35 overs

    Target 378

Ravindra Jadeja races through a maiden.

England need another 240. It's looking like it's going to take a fair amount of day five to win this game, which is good news for anyone who grabs a freebie.

They'd have reviewed that if they hadn't wasted two already.

  19. Eng 138-3published at 34 overs

    Target 378

Another massive - and I mean massive - appeal for lbw against Joe Root as Mohammed Shami cannons another one into the pads.

Richard Kettleborough again shakes his head and says no.

India have a conflab but decide against the review this time, and wisely because the ball was missing leg stump by an inch or so.

    They are creating opportunities.

  20. How's stat?!published at 16:46 British Summer Time 4 July 2022

    Andy Zaltzman

There have been six lbw reviews against Joe Root by opposition captains this summer and they have all been unsuccessful.
