Dan Pritchett: Kohli's conduct would get any other player banned time and time again, the way he carries on. So unnecessary for someone who otherwise commands instant respect.

Kev McVeigh: I reckon one or two Australians of the past would have thought Kohli's behaviour a bit OTT there.

    Target 378

England take two more singles off Ravindra Jadeja.

He is persisting with the fairly negative approach from round the wicket at the moment.

It's funny how quickly the game can change.

England were in a great position at tea and looking to take the game away from India. Those two quick wickets have given the game a completely different look.

  5. Eng 120-3published at 28 overs

    Target 378

Jasprit Bumrah is really trying to hone in on the stumps of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow at the moment but he's straying a little bit too leg-side and the Yorkshire pair are able to work three singles through the on-side.

The stand-in skipper finishes with a well-directed bounder but Root just sways to the side.

There's a little chorus of "na, na, na, Joe Roootttt" from the Hollies Stand.

Here's how Ollie Pope was out to the first ball after tea.

    A tame dismissal.

  8. Eng 117-3published at 27 overs

    Target 378

A maiden from Ravindra Jadeja, with Joe Root happy to kick away the majority of the over with a largely negative leg-stump line being bowled by the left-armer.

There's no doubt it's exciting but you've got to think about what is the best way to win a Test match.

And here that would involve ticking the score over, getting plenty of overs into the bowlers' legs and giving yourselves the best chance.

I understand the thinking. The white ball revolution took some time and this will, too.

It does feel rushed but it really does keep you glued to the TV.

  11. Eng 117-3published at 26 overs

    Target 378

There is a bit more confusion as Joe Root plays a trademark steer towards third and Ravindra Jadeja throws himself across to cut it off.

The all-rounder is off balance as he throws though and Jonny Bairstow manages to get home.

It feels like the next half an hour to hour could go a long way to deciding this Test.

They're in the mindset that these runs have got to be scored tonight.

  14. Eng 114-3published at 25 overs

    Target 378

Right, over to Yorkshire. Jonny Bairstow - who has hit three centuries in his last three Tests - is in the middle, alongside Joe Root.

I want to say England just need to calm the game down, but let's face it, this side aren't going to do that.

Bairstow is off the mark with a lovely punch through point for a boundary. He tries to sweep the next ball but misses.

Don't move a muscle, this is going to be a very lively few hours till close.

Lees was too busy looking behind him for the ball, but if you have got inside edge you are going to be concerned about where the ball has gone because you can't see it.

But it was poor communication from Root because he just set off without really thinking about that.

Root called the run and Lees was ball watching. That's the second time he's been run out in successive Tests.

  18. wicket

Lees run out (Shami) 56 (Eng 109-3)

No, no, no. This is not good from England.

Alex Lees tries to drive Ravindra Jadeja, but an inside edge goes to leg gully. The left-hander looks behind him, looking where the ball has gone, but Root immediately sets off and is half way down the pitch before Lees even starts to respond.

Mohammed Shami gathers the ball and throws it to the non-striker's end where Jadeja collects and knocks off the bails.

India are rampant. Virat Kohli is screaming and running on the pitch in delight. He's got a telling off from Aleem Dar.

India players surrounding Lees at the fall of the wicket. Kohli was going at him when they returned after tea, then again when Pope was dismissed.

In fairness, I wouldn't fancy any of their chances against the Durham opener.

  20. Eng 109-2published at 24 overs

    Target 378

Jasprit Bumrah goes over the wicket to Alex Lees, but strays onto the pads and England get through for a leg bye.

A brilliant yorker is well dug out by Joe Root to end the over.

The noise has been ramped up in recent overs, both by the crowd and the Indian fielders.
