WICKETpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

    Gilchrist c Weatherley b Abbott 0 (Kent 305 & 292-9 v Hampshire 652-6 dec)

It is a pair for Nathan Gilchrist.

He doesn't fancy a short one from Kyle Abbott and gloves it to short leg from in front of his helmet.

    Abbott is on a hat-trick.

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:02 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

    Qadri c Brown b Abbott 11 (Kent 305 & 292-8 v Hampshire 652-6 dec)

Back out at Canterbury and Hamidullah Qadri finds the cover boundary off Kyle Abbott. It is his final scoring stroke as he plays fractionally inside the line of the next one and edges through to keeper Ben Brown.

Just two wickets needed by Hampshire now as Nathan Gilchrist comes out on a pair.

  3. Tea at Canterburypublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

    Kent 305 & 287-7 v Hampshire 652-6 dec

Kent are still fighting at the Spitfire Ground despite losing Ben Compton and Jordan Cox during the afternoon session following their 116-run stand.

Compton made 89 and Cox 64, but the latter was far from happy with the decision which saw him given out caught at short leg.

Darren Stevens is 40 not out and Kent need 60 more to avoid an innings defeat - Hampshire, at this stage, need three more wickets without any need for their batters to don the pads again.

  4. Tea at the Ovalpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

    Surrey 308 & 181-4 v Somerset 337 & 207

Josh Davey is unlucky as he finds the edge of Ben Foakes' bat but the ball runs away for four past the solitary Somerset slip. Not sure that would have carried had there been a second in place, though.

Surrey remain favourites despite losing Hashim Amla, Ollie Pope and Ryan Patel - the latter for an excellent 102 - and will need another 56 after tea.

Foakes has 32 and Sam Curran is three not out.

  5. Tea at Wantage Roadpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

Northants 212-5 need 499 to beat Yorks

Northants needed someone to get properly stuck into the afternoon and Will Young has done just that.

He takes tea on 91 having soaked up 231 balls so far.

A little more work to do after tea with 32 more overs to see out for the home side but hopes high that they can earn a draw.

Yorkshire have taken a couple bursts of wickets but have found the going difficult.

  6. Tea at Old Traffordpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

    Lancs v Glos 211-8 trail by 90

    Lancashire almost there.

Gloucestershire have never threatened to save this game so far.

Miles Hammond, with 50, and Tom Lace, still there on 60, have been the only ones to cause Lancs too much bother.

The home side have chipped away well and need two more wickets after tea for a fine victory.

    Surrey 174-4 (target 237)

Three successive maidens by Somerset and there will be another over before the interval at the Oval. Ben Foakes is 27 not out and Sam Curran has one.

  8. Bears 'put down early marker'published at 15:35 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

    Warwickshire 385 & 110-0 beat Essex 168 & 323 by 10 wickets

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

A thumping victory for Warwickshire who took advantage of an Essex collapse, just as they did last year, to gain an early advantage over one of their likely challengers.

A brilliant 170 from Michael Burgess ensured that Warwickshire capitalised fully after bowling Essex out cheaply.

Although the visitors showed great resilience in tackling a deficit of 217, the eventual target of 107 proved a formality for Alex Davies and Dom Sibley.

Essex now need a win at Chelmsford against Northants. Warwickshire will go to Taunton with confidence having put down this early marker in defence of their title.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

    Shaw b Hasan Ali 29 (Lancs v Glos 209-8 trail by 95)

Another one for Lancashire before tea.

Hasan Ali with a beautiful inswinger to castle Josh Shaw.

Shaw stuck on the crease, pokes at it, and loses his off stump.

56 balls of resistance comes to an end.

    Two more for Lancs.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

    Patel c Davies b Davey 102 (Surrey 172-4 - target 237)

A twist in the tale at the Oval as Josh Davey finds the edge and Ryan Patel is gone. He batted for 201 minutes, faced 133 balls and hit 14 fours - and will be disappointed not to be there at the end.

It's the highest score of Patel's career, beating the 100 not out he made against Essex at the Oval in 2019.

Sam Curran is the new batter, so absolutely no need for any panic among Surrey followers.

    Surrey 172-3 (target 237)

Somerset gave themselves half a chance by removing Hashim Amla and Ollie Pope, but Ryan Patel and Ben Foakes are doing the business now for Surrey - with Foakes putting away Jack Leach for another four in the spinner's latest over.

He has 26 and Patel is 102 not out - 65 more required.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

    Milnes c Weatherley b Abbas 13 (Kent 205 & 268-7 v Hampshire 652-6 dec)

Only three more wickets needed by Hampshire after Matt Milnes tries to pull Mohammad Abbas, but totally miscues and Joe Weatherley takes the catch. Darren Stevens is still there on 31 and has now been joined by Hamidullah Qadri.

  13. 50 runs

    Lancs v Glos 195-7 trail by 109

Gloucestershire still fighting at Old Trafford and Tom Lace has gone to fifty.

He played mighty well when up against it at Cheltenham against Hampshire last season to almost secure a draw that would have seen the Glosters qualify for Division One last September.

A similar act so far but still 38 long overs for The Shire to try and see out against the second new ball.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

Procter lbw b Bess 13 (Northants 195-5 need 499 to beat Yorks)

The mistake from Rob Keogh brought a new man in and Yorkshire have taken their chance with a second wicket.

Dom Bess has skidded one into Luke Procter who plays all around it and goes lbw.

Half the job done now for Yorkshire.

39 more overs for the second half.

  15. 100 runs

for Ryan Patelpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

    Surrey 162-3 (target 237)

Ryan Patel tucks Jack Leach away for a single and reaches a 127-ball century - only his second in first class cricket.

Ben Foakes finds the boundary from the final ball of the over and Surrey are now 71 runs short of their target

    Surrey 156-3 (target 237)

Ben Foakes rocks back and square cuts England team-mate Jack Leach for four to bring up a half-century stand with Ryan Patel - a pretty ordinary delivery by a bowler of Leach's standard.

Foakes is 18 not out and Surrey need another 81 to win.

Two England bowlers in action now for Somerset - Craig Overton and Jack Leach. Overton has been pretty expensive in this innings and Ryan Patel slashes over the slips to third man for his 13th four and moves into the 90s.

DERBYSHIRE BEAT LEICESTERSHIRE BY AN INNINGS AND 68 RUNSpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

Derbyshire celebrate victoryImage source, Rex Features

Anuj Dal has come up with the final wicket, Callum Parkinson finally removed for 49 after over two hours at the crease.

And Derbyshire have finally seen off Leicestershire at Grace Road.

It took 118 overs in the second innings to bowl them out again but Leicestershire’s rearguard was too little too late after the huge first-innings deficit.

Shan Mashood scored his second double hundred in as many games to set Derbyshire up for a massive win.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

Keogh c Patterson b Hill 48 (Northants 172-3 need 499 to beat Yorks)

George Hill the boy can do no wrong!

151 yesterday, a catch this morning and now breaks an excellent partnership.

The most gentle of seamers, Rob Keogh is in way too soon trying to work to leg and gets a leading edge to short-extra cover.

That fourth wicket stand had almost got through 40 overs but Yorkshire have an end open again with 46 overs left in the game.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

    Cox c Weatherley b Organ 64 (Kent 305 & 247-6 v Hampshire 652-6 dec)

Jordan Cox pads up to a ball from Felix Organ and the ball flies to short leg where Joe Weatherley claims a diving catch.

No idea what else that came off other than the pad and Cox can't believe the umpire has upheld the appeal

His walk off is one of the slowest you are likely to see this summer.
