Champions Warwickshire complete their first win of the season as Dom Sibley hits a boundary off Matt Critchley.

He finishes 41 not out, with Alex Davies on 65, and Warwickshire take 22 points, with just two for Essex.

The visitors added 33 to their overnight 290-8 with Simon Harmer making 75 not out, but not even he could part the Warwickshire openers as they cruised towards their target.

Alex Davies marks his Warwickshire debut with a half-century as he pushes Matt Critchley to cover for a single.

It has taken him 107 balls and his innings thus far has featured eight fours.

Dom Sibley is 32 not out and it's just a matter of time now.

Northants 151-3 need 499 to beat Yorks

Will Young has moved into the 70s at Wantage Road and Rob Keogh has joined him in a nice stand that has got Northants stuck into the afternoon session.

Still 54 more overs to see out but some hope for the home side.

Dom Bees wheeling away for the White Rose.

    Pope c Abell b Brooks 5 (Surrey (106-3 - target 237)

Big wicket for Somerset as Ollie Pope is taken at gully off Jack Brooks.

It seemed to bounce a little more than the England batter expected and the visitors may now be fancying their chances.

Ryan Patel is still there on 70 as he is joined by Ben Foakes, clearly none the worse following yesterday's collision with Jamie Overton which forced him to leave the field.

    Kent 305 & 206-5 v Hampshire 652-6 dec

Not bad for a first scoring stroke.

Felix Organ floats one up to Darren Stevens and the venerable all-rounder slog sweeps to mid-wicket for six.

Kent need another 141 to avoid an innings defeat.

    Gohar b Parkinson 3 (Lancs v Glos 129-7 trail by 175)

A third wicket for Matt Parkinson and Lancashire are moving quickly towards victory shortly after lunch.

Zafar Gohar, well, he just misses a full ball.

    Total misjudgement.

Plays down middle and one skips past the outside edge into his stumps.

    Pretty tame ending.

    Warwickshire 71-0 (target 107)

Try as they might, nothing is happening for Essex's bowlers.

Mark Steketee is slightly wide of off stump and Alex Davies hammers it away for four without deeming it necessary to move his feet.

A maiden from Simon Harmer to Dom Sibley follows.

    Robinson c Brown b Organ 9 (Kent 305 & 190-5 v Hampshire 652-6 dec)

Felix Organ has five fielders around the bat, including two short legs - plenty of space therefore for Ollie Robinson to pick up two consecutive fours.

Organ's next delivery, though, sees the new Kent batter caught behind, the ball lodging in the top of Ben Brown's pad from where the keeper extracts it to complete the catch.

Suddenly Hampshire have victory in their sights again.

    Compton c Brown b Barker 89 (Kent 305 & 181-4 v Hampshire 652-6 dec)

A fourth century of the season was there for the taking for Ben Compton, but he's gone.

The left-hander tries to pull an unthreatening delivery from Keith Barker, but only makes contact with an under-edge and Ben Brown moves to the leg-side to take the catch.

Compton batted for 252 minutes, faced 194 balls and hit 14 fours.

    Surrey 97-2 (target 237)

The loss of Hashim Amla doesn't appear to have disturbed Ryan Patel, who finds the cover boundary twice in three balls off Craig Overton - one off the back foot, one off the front. He is now 62 not out.

  17. Postpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 24 April 2022

    Kent 305 & 180-3 v Hampshire 652-6 dec

Still no relief for Hampshire at Canterbury where Ben Compton has now reached 89 not out and Jordan Cox is on 38.

Kent are still 166 behind, though, and two or three quick wickets would change the complexion of this match.

Miles Hammond had gone to a 148-ball half-century and needed to press on deep into the afternoon.

Just what Somerset wanted - although one or two hearts may have been in mouths as second slip Matt Renshaw failed to take the catch before keeper Steven Davies spared his blushes.

Peter Siddle now has seven wickets in the game and Surrey are 152 short of their target as Ollie Pope comes to the crease.
