So we have reached the halfway point in all nine games.

In Division One, Surrey, Somerset and Northants are in command, Yorkshire have moved into a potentially strong position while Hampshire have the edge over Lancashire.

Over in Division Two, we should be set for a conclusion at Lord's and Trent Bridge on day three while the games in Cardiff and Hove have a while to go yet.

Again, there have been some fine individual performances but an unbeaten 234 from Surrey's 21-year-old wicketkeeper Jamie Smith in his team's mammoth 603 was the stand-out.

Thanks for joining us and we hope you can do the same from 10:50 BST in the morning.

    Duke lbw b Quinn 8 (Yorkshire 314-5 v Kent 291)

Matt Quinn will deserve his dinner tonight.

After getting rid of Dawid Malan, he has bent his back to produce a bit more zip to trap Harry Duke in front.

A thankless period to bat for the Yorkshire wicketkeeper and he can't make it to the close.

    Yorkshire 305-4 v Kent 291

As we go on well past seven, it's worth pointing out Leeds Rhinos are playing Hull Kingston Rovers at 20.00 BST in rugby league's Super League behind the dressing rooms at Headingley.

Meanwhile, Harry Brook caresses one effortlessly through the legside towards the Western Terrace to bring up his highest first class score of 128.

Yorkshire also have three batting points so far and will fancy a maximum five for reaching 400.

    Yorkshire 298-4 v Kent 291

The departure of Dawid Malan has certainly changed the tempo of the play.

New batter Harry Duke has offered some circumspect defence as he looks to play for tomorrow and centurion Harry Brook determined to cash in again tomorrow.

    Malan c Robinson b Quinn 152 (Yorkshire 292-4 v Kent 291)

No sooner had Dawid Malan brought up his 150 with a four and then a massive six off successive balls from Matt Quinn but his innings comes to an end.

He pulls one straight behind to the wicketkeeper after entertaining the Headingley crowd with some glorious strokeplay.

Malan's innings contained 22 fours and that six in his 180 deliveries in his third 150-plus score for Yorkshire.

    Somerset 458 v Warwickshire 197-9

And that completes an outstanding second day for Somerset.

After their lower-order helped them pass 450, the seamers ripped through Warwickshire to leave the Bears facing the prospect of the follow-on in the morning.

Now they lead by 112 and are setting up a victory chance at Trent Bridge.

Ben Cox has provided excellent support with an unbeaten half-century.

Jambarrell: Harry Brook's form so far this season is insane! If Lawrence is injured is it between Brook and Pope for the #4 England slot? I'd love to see them all in the side but there isn't room

  16. Close of playpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 29 April 2022

    Essex 95-8 v Northants 390

Northants in total control at stumps at Chelmsford. In a great position to push on for their first win of the season over the weekend.

    Hampshire 246 & 87-3 v Lancashire 240

Jimmy Anderson is convinced he has Nick Gubbins LBW. But coming round the wicket to the left-hander must be the thing that counts against him.

No reviews in the county game, otherwise that one would definitely have gone upstairs.

But after a bit of luck with the James Vince call, maybe that balances it out.

Harry Brook goes to a sixth first-class hundred and second of the season in the evening sunshine at Headingley.

It's taken the 23-year-old from Keighley 138 balls with 11 fours and two sixes.

Dawid Malan continues to march along at the other end having just struck Nathan Gilchrist for 16 off his last over. The former England man is on 123.

    Khushi c McManus b Procter 9 (Essex 83-8 v Northants 390)

Luke Procter was the star with the bat for Northants and now he's in the wickets.

Feroze Khushi throws his hands at a wide one and edges it behind.

Not a great ball from Procter, but when it's your day...
