  1. A lot of hard yakkapublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

    Gloucestershire 128-4 v Somerset 591-7 dec

The sunshine is out in Bristol and there are runs for the batters.

That could mean another day of a lot of hard yakka for the Somerset bowlers, but at least they all have oodles of runs to play with to keep running in hard.

Successive fours for Jacob Bethell off Craig Overton is a nice start to the day for the Gloucester man.

  2. Potts for England?published at 11:04 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

    Durham 311 & 39-2 v Glamorgan 365

    BBC Radio Newcastle

The Durham fast bowler Matty Potts is the leading wicket-taker in the country this season with 28 dismissals. And now there are growing reports he will soon earn a Test call up for England.

The 23-year-old seems quicker this season and has been putting the hard yards in. He's taken three six-wicket hauls already and four yesterday against Glamorgan.

He is, of course, playing alongside the England skipper Ben Stokes too. But is he good enough for the national side? Team-mate Ben Raine thinks so: "I hope he does get picked. He deserves a call-up. This is his sixth game on the bounce. He has bowled a remarkable amount of overs and has shown he is capable of bowling the sorts of spells you need in Test match cricket.

"He has got what it takes. He would certainly be on my Test radar."

Potts and Raine both took 4-61 yesterday. And they both bowled 20 overs and recorded two maidens. However Durham let this one slip out of their grasp yesterday afternoon as Glamorgan recovered from 163-7 to end up with a 54-run lead. By last night Durham were two down in their second innings and 15 behind.

Is that a dropped catch in the first over?!

George Hill drills one back at Tom Bailey but the ball goes through the Lancashire paceman an inch or so off the turf.

    I'll call it a quarter-chance.

  5. Champions under the cosh at Edgbastonpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

    Warwickshire 88-2 v Northants 597-6 dec

County Champions Warwickshire go into day three with a lot of hard work in front of them, trailing by over 500 runs.

The visitors had three centurions in their massive first innings total, with Luke Procter yesterday finishing exactly 100 not out, and the Bears will probably need a couple over the next two days to have any chance of avoiding an unexpected defeat.

  7. Somerset dominating West County derbypublished at 10:56 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

With a lead of 472 runs and four Gloucestershire batters already back in the hutch, it's safe to assume Somerset have an iron grip on this West Country derby.

A captain's knock from Tom Abell (142) set the tone, but contributions all the way down set up their mammoth total. But 3-29 from Jack Leach in the evening session will encourage Somerset for what could be in store over the last two days.

Gloucestershire simply have to fight, although one thing to remember is that Surrey smashed 600 at Bristol a fortnight ago, and the hosts came away with a draw.

  8. Jennings leads Red Rose masterclasspublished at 10:55

    Yorkshire 53-2 v Lancashire 566-9 dec

In a day of high scores, Keaton Jennings made a career-best 238 as Lancashire continued to dominate the Roses match at Headingley.

Yorkshire then lost Adam Lyth and Dawid Malan in the evening session and face a huge battle to get anything out of the game.

They begin day three still trailing by 513 and need to make 417 to avoid the follow-on.

  9. Surrey set new recordpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

Surrey set a new first-class record in the Beckenham sunshine on Friday as they made the highest total in history without any batter reaching a century.

Seven batters made fifties and three were out in the 90s as the Division One leaders piled up 671-9 declared.
