  1. Postpublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Essex 238 & 40-2 v Hampshire 163

Hampshire have indeed engaged full spin mode at Chelmsford, Liam Dawson joining double wicket-taker Felix Organ in the attack.

Nick Browne and Dan Lawrence are giving both full respect, taking the odd single or two as they bid to plug the damage caused by the quickfire losses of key batters Alastair Cook and Tom Westley.

  2. wicket

GLOUCESTERSHIRE ALL OUT AT BRISTOLpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Gloucestershire 337 v Lancshire

George Balderson claims the final wicket at Nevil Road as Matt Taylor is last man out for 16.

Taylor is adjudged leg before wicket to deny spinner Jack Morley the chance of a 'five-fer'. The young leggie finishes with 4-91.

With a later lunch already scheduled for 1.10, Lancs openers Luke Wells and fit-again Keaton Jennings now have an awkward 20 minutes to face.

  3. 50 runs

50 for Will Jackspublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Surrey 595-6 v Kent

Just before that Curran wicket, Will Jacks became the fifth half-centurion of the Surrey innings.

Surrey have scored 150 runs in this morning session - and that's with a rain delay too. What's the magic number or time to declare for skipper Rory Burns?

  4. wicket

    WICKET - Curran c Milnes b Linde 126published at 12:39 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Surrey 578-6 v Kent

Play has restarted at The Oval after that brief shower and Sam Curran quickly passes Hashim Amla and Ben Geddes (both 124) as Surrey's highest scorer in their first innings against Kent.

However, he comes undone on 126, top-edging George Linde to Matt Milnes for the South African's first wicket of the innings.

Cracking knock, though - the 126 came off just 75 balls with 15 fours and five sixes. Think he thought it was a white ball, not red.

  5. Postpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Essex 238 & 28-2 v Hampshire 163

Ooh so close to a hat-trick for Felix Organ!

Dan Lawrence tries to hit him straight back down the ground but doesn't quite connect as he would have liked.

It's a caught and bowled chance but a very difficult, low one and Organ can only get fingertips to it.

A lead of 103 for Essex now, by the way.

  6. wicket

    WICKETS - Cook c Vince b Organ 16 & Westley c Donald b Organ 0published at 12:30 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Essex 238 & 24-2 v Hampshire 163

Told you Hampshire should switch to spin! Two quick wickets.

Sir Alastair Cook nicks Felix Organ to James Vince at slip and then, from the next ball - the final delivery of the over - Aneurin Donald takes a brilliant low, close-range, reaction grab as Tom Westley departs for a golden duck.

Westley was one of the mainstays of Essex's first innings but there'll be no repeat.

Organ will be on a hat-trick when he returns to bowl his next over...

  7. wicket

    WICKET - Zafar Gohar c Bohannon b Morley 62published at 12:26 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Gloucestershire 321-9 v Lancashire

Zafar Gohar is gone at Nevil Road as Lancashire finally snare their third bowling point in the 106th over.

Josh Bohannon hangs on to a skier from Jack Morley to earn the young spinner his fourth wicket.

Gloucestershire's last man is David Payne.

  8. wicket

Pears on top against Glamorganpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Worcestershire 271, Glamorgan 65-6

Three early wickets for Worcestershire already - to add to the three quick scalps they claimed last night.

Joe Leach again struck twice in the same over when he bowled Sam Northeast for 9, then removed Kiran Carlson for a golden duck with his next ball, caught at third slip by Josh Baker.

That meant he had taken all the first five, but Charlie Morris removed any vain hopes of a '10-fer' by having Billy Root caught behind.

Glamorgan opener Ed Byrom remains untroubled on 26, having watched all the carnage from the safety of the other end.

  9. Postpublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Essex 238 & 18-0 v Hampshire 163

Meanwhile, Essex's second innings has begun and they are 18 without loss after three overs, thanks to Sir Alastair Cook (11) and Nick Browne (7).

Hampshire have pacemen Kyle Abbott and Keith Barker leading the attack - after Harmer's numbers it can't be long before they give spinner Liam Dawson a go surely?

  10. Watch: Harmer's eight-wicket haulpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Essex 238 & 18-0 v Hampshire 163

A few numbers on Simon Harmer's eight-wicket haul.

    It's his 45th first-class five-fer or better.

And his best since taking 9-80 against Derbyshire, also at Chelmsford, 13 months ago.

Worth checking out all eight wickets below.

    Northants 420-6 v Warwickshire

    Same story at Northampton.

Now confirmed that there will not be any play before lunch.

No specific timings yet, though, as to when they can officially tuck into the cheese and pickle butties.

  12. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Notts 378-4 v Middlesex

No play possible in Nottingham this morning.

The outlook was already pretty bleak. But that is now been officially confirmed by the announcement that lunch will be served early, at 12:30.

Welcome news all round. They do a good lunch at Trent Bridge.

  13. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Surrey 545-5 v Kent

Ah, the rain could stop them though.

Just after Curran passes the century mark, the showers begin in south London.

Depending on how long the delay is, wonder if a declaration will be in Surrey's minds.

  14. 100 runs

100 - for Sam Curranpublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Surrey 545-5 v Kent

Surrey have added exactly 100 to their overnight total without loss.

And Sam Curran reaches his personal 100 in style with a big six, his third of the innings. The ton has come off just 64 balls.

    Surrey looking unstoppable.

  15. Train to catch, anyone?published at 12:05 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Essex 238 v Hampshire 163

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex sport

Someone must have a train to catch here at Chelmsford as this game continues to move forward at a ridiculous pace.

Hampshire added 95 runs to their overnight total in 53 minutes with Kyle Abbott taking a particular liking to the occasional spin of Dan Lawrence; an experiment from Essex they might regret persisting with for so long.

There has not been quite as much assistance for Simon Harmer this morning but the South African has unsurprisingly still been at the centre of everything. He took all four wickets to fall.

If you take Harmer out of the equation we would have a pretty normal and even game of county cricket…

  16. 300 runs

300 up for Gloucestershirepublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Gloucestershire 301-8 v Lancashire

Gloucestershire's ninth-wicket pair help their side ease to a third batting point as they hoist the 300.

Zafar Gohar homing in on his second fifty of the season - and is now getting good support from Matt Taylor.

  17. wicket

HAMPSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 163published at 11:56 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Abbott c Beard b Harmer 27 (Essex 238 v Hampshire 163)

    Guess who?

Yep, Simon Harmer takes his eighth wicket of the Hampshire innings and they are all out for just 163.

In fairness to Kyle Abbott, the big man just went for it, crashing three sixes off Dan Lawrence's previous over.

He tried to do the same to Harmer but came up short, caught by Aaron Beard in the deep, as the Essex spinner finishes with sensational figures of 8-46. A first-innings lead of 75 for the hosts.

  18. Harmer chameleonpublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Essex 238 v Hampshire 154-9

The Hampshire scorecard almost reads like the chorus of Karma Chameleon.

    Harmer, Harmer, Harmer, Harmer, Harmer...

The Hampshire batters are certainly coming and going.

7-44 now for the Essex spinner. Outstanding.

  19. wicket

    WICKET - Brown c Rossington b Harmer 38published at 11:44 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Essex 238 v Hampshire 138-9

Make that seven victims for Simon Harmer.

Ben Brown had picked off Dan Lawrence for consecutive boundaries to surpass Nick Gubbins (34) as Hampshire's leading scorer in this innings.

And he's not happy about the umpire raising a finger for a snick behind to wicketkeeper Adam Rossington.

Brown gestures to his knee and lobs his bat up in the air when walking off. Not a happy bunny is Benjamin.

  20. wicket

    WICKET - Fuller c S Cook b Harmer 9published at 11:39 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Essex 238 v Hampshire 127-8

Another wicket falls at Chelmsford - that's 18 in a day and 40 minutes' play.

Essex have abandoned the seam and gone full spin - no surprise given the success Simon Harmer has had. He and Dan Lawrence are alternating now.

But this innings is all about Harmer - James Fuller becomes his sixth victim, trying to cut on but getting the edge of the bat to loop it up for Sam Cook to take a diving catch. That's 6-43 for Harmer - who is almost unplayable at the minute.
