  1. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Essex 505-9 dec, Somerset 288-2

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

Somerset's session again. 106 runs since lunch for the addition of two batting points and the loss of just injured skipper Tom Abell, who retired hurt on 90, then the first wicket of the day, George Bartlett for 24. Matt Renshaw is on 14 and Lewis Goldsworthy on 10.

At first glance a very good day so far for Somerset who should reach the 356 they need to avoid the follow-on and, in so doing, probably save the game.

But the extent of Abell’s hamstring injury, sustained when he went for a second run, could have significant implications for Somerset’s September campaign when they will need points to stay out of the relegation places.

Unfortunately the pitch is a replica of the first three of the season here when each game ended a long way short of a positive result.

  2. Tea at Cheltenhampublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Glos 317 & 82-2 v Northants 479

Gloucestershire are up against it, although a lively knock of 48 not out by Marcus Harris has given them hope against Northamptonshire.

The Australian opener has struck two sixes off Simon Kerrigan, as well as five fours, to help Gloucestershire reduce the deficit to 80 at tea.

Miles Hammond is alongside him on 17, with Chris Dent and Ollie Price the players back in the hutch.

  3. Tea at the Ovalpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Surrey 316 v Warwicks 253 & 179-4

A good session for Warwickshire, who have progressed steadily and now lead Surrey by 116.

Sam Hain has batted right through the afternoon to reach 48 not out and he's been joined by Bears skipper Will Rhodes (24 not out).

The only wicket to fall was that of Alex Davies, one short of a well-deserved 50, when he was neatly stumped by Ben Foakes off the bowling of Will Jacks.

  4. Division Two round-uppublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

Nottinghamshire's Haseeb Hameed has missed out on a century at Trent Bridge, where Sean Hunt has him caught behind for 94.

However, Lyndon James is still there on 53 not out and Notts, at 178-4 in their second innings, hold an overall lead of 275 against Sussex.

At the Riverside, Durham have kept pegging Middlesex back with wickets as the visitors progressed to 225-5, trailing by 196.

  5. Tea taken at New Roadpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Derbyshire 130 & 343, Worcestershire 185 & 75-5

    Dan Wheeler
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

If this game hadn't been so advanced, coming off for bad light and drizzle just before tea would be a most welcome stoppage for Worcestershire.

But, with a minimum of 140 overs remaining in this match, and still 214 shy of victory with only five second-innings wickets left, the break brings no such relief.

The promise of more Ed Pollock pyrotechnics was snuffed out immediately after he looking like properly lighting the fuse.

As in the first innings, the ball after hitting a six he was out - caught at slip off a beauty from Ben Aitchison who bowled a nippy nine-over spell that yielded three wickets and many more false shots.

Jake Libby grazed one down the leg-side, Taylor Cornall drove loosely at Sam Conners, Kashif Ali chopped on, Ed Barnard's cover drive, for once, let him down. And much now rests on the shoulders of Jack Haynes, who has hit three 100s already this season.

Hope isn't quite yet out of town but it's in the hotel lobby about to hand in its key.

  6. wicket

    WICKET - Bartlett c Browne b Harmer 24published at 15:33 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Essex 505-9 dec, Somerset 268-2

Simon Harmer takes a second wicket of the match as George Bartlett goes, top edging a catch taken by double centurion Nick Browne.

Is it time to start hearing the Jaws music yet?

    Surely not!

New man is Lewis Goldsworthy to join centurion Matt Renshaw.

  7. Lancashire building lead at Old Traffordpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Lancashire 145 & 198-2, Kent 270

Half an hour to go until tea in Manchester - and the Lancashire lead builds, to 73.

Josh Bohannon made an important second-innings century when the Red Rose oveturned a 103-run first-innings deficit to win at Northampton last week.

He is now on 67 and clearly sniffing after another.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    O Price c McManus b White 0 (Glos 317 & 42-4 v Northants 479)

Ollie Price doesn't trouble the scorers - he lasts just seven balls before hanging the bat out at Jack White and Lewis McManus does the rest behind the stumps.

Miles Hammond strides to the wicket with Gloucestershire still 120 behind.

  9. dropped catch

Data meltdownpublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

Apparently the data feed issue currently causing issues with the BBC scorecards this afternoon is being felt beyond the world of cricket.

Football and horse racing are also affected.

  10. rain stops play

Rain stops play at New Roadpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Worcs 75-5 (target 289) v Derbys

Worcestershire won't be too sorry to see play halted by a shower - they are very much up against it chasing 289 to beat Derbyshire.

Ben Aitchison has taken three wickets for the visitors, the most recent of them Ed Barnard for seven.

Jack Haynes and Gareth Roderick are the not-out batters as the teams take an early tea.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Dent c Kerrigan b Taylor 16 (Glos 317 & 37-1 v Northants 479)

Gloucestershire's opening pair were looking fairly comfortable second time around - but a careless shot from Chris Dent costs him his wicket.

Dent clips Tom Taylor straight to midwicket and the home side are still 125 in arrears as Ollie Price comes to the crease.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Davies st Foakes b Jacks 49 (Surrey 316 v Warwicks 253 & 143-4)

Once again, Will Jacks picks up a wicket just when Surrey were starting to get desperate for one!

The spinner draws Alex Davies forward, he loses his balance and Ben Foakes' reactions are lightning-quick as he takes off the bails.

That ends the partnership of 75 with Sam Hain as Davies misses out on a half-century.

  13. wicket

    WICKET - Wells c Leaning b Saini 98published at 14:52 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Lancashire 145 & 171-2, Kent 270

Luke Wells perishes just two short of a century for Lancashire as Kent pick up their second wicket.

That man Jack Leaning again with the catch.

Josh Bohannon did get the chance to hoist his bat, though, when he went past 50 for the fourth time this season.

And he has now been joined by stand-in skipper Steven Croftt, back in the captain's role for the next month as Dane Vilas has suffered a painful knuckle injury.

  14. wicket

    WICKET - Lyth c Brown b Fuller 59published at 14:50 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Yorkshire 159 & 119-3, Hampshire 218

Hampshire pick up their fourth wicket as they finally get Yorkshire opener Adam Lyth well caught behind by a diving Ben Brown as he unwisely chose to play at a bouncing legside delivery from James Fuller for 59.

Lyth was badly dropped on 14 this morning, so it has only cost Hampshire 45 runs. It could have been worse.

The hosts now lead by 60 as Matthew Waite, a target for Worcestershire after going out on loan to New Road earlier this season, comes in to join Jonny Tattersall.

  15. ouch!

Serious scorecards alertpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

Apologies to anyone wondering why the BBC Sport scorecards have not updated since lunch.

    So were we, in fact!

But the technical boffins have been alerted, it is apparently "an issue with the data feed" - and hopefully we will soon get a fix!!!

  16. Postpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Glos 317 & 13-0 v Northants 479

Chris Dent has taken a while to get off the mark, but he finally does so in style, pulling Jack White through midwicket for four as Gloucestershire begin chipping away at this 162-run deficit.

Marcus Harris is on nine at the other end, with White and Ben Sanderson looking to drive home Northamptonshire's advantage in this opening burst.

  17. ouch!

Delay at Chelmsfordpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Somerset 233-1 v Essex

Somerset skipper Tom Abell is receiving treatment after apparenty damaging his hamstring.

It must be a bad one as he has now retired hurt, on 90. And George Bartlett has come in.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Kashif Ali b Dal 6 (Worcs 63-4, target 289) v Derbys

This see-saw contest appears to be tilting in favour of Derbyshire at the moment, with Worcestershire now four down chasing 289.

Sam Conners had Taylor Cornall caught behind for four and Anuj Dal - the Derbyshire hero with an unbeaten century - has just made an important contribution with the ball too, bowling Kashif Ali off an inside edge.

Big job now for Jack Haynes and Ed Barnard.

  19. 100 runs

Matt Renshaw's centurypublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Essex 505-9 dec, Somerset 223-1

Matt Renshaw reaches his second century of the season.

Exactly four and a half hours. 237 balls. 11 fours.

It's the Middlesbrough-born Australian's 15th in first-class cricket - and he has a good conversion rate in terms of turning 50s into 100s, every other one.

Somerset skipper Tom Abell is on 87 - and looks likely to follow him to three figures.

  20. Lancashire lead at Old Traffordpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Lancashire 145 & 133-1, Kent 270

Lancashire's second-wicket pair Luke Wells (73) and Josh Bohannon (41) take their side into the lead at Old Trafford.

There is a long way to in this game yet, but the Red Rose look in a lot better shape than they did this time yesterday.
