  1. wicket

WICKETS at New Roadpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Worcs 44-2 (target 289) v Derbys

It's boiling up nicely at New Road, where Ben Aitchison has now removed both Worcestershire openers as they chase 289 for victory.

The Derbyshire seamer dismissed Ed Pollock for 23 and Jake Libby has just followed, caught down the leg side by Brook Guest for 21.

Taylor Cornall and Jack Haynes are at the crease now for Worcestershire.

  2. Postpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Surrey 316 v Warwicks 253 & 96-3

Warwickshire have regrouped since lunch, with Alex Davies and Sam Hain building on their side's slim advantage, which now stands at 33.

Davies has moved on to 32, with Hain on 15.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:09 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Sanderson c Hammond b Chappell 38 (Glos 317 v Northants 479)

A sense of relief for Gloucestershire, who finally bring the Northamptonshire first innings to a close.

Zak Chappell picks up his third wicket as Ben Sanderson drills to mid-off for a season's best of 38, while Jack White enjoyed himself with an unbeaten 14 - including two slog-swept sixes off Zafar Gohar.

Time for Sanderson and White to pull on their bowling boots now as the Gloucestershire openers go out facing a 162-run deficit.

  4. 200 runs

First batting point for Somersetpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Essex 505-9 dec, Somerset 204-1 (66 overs)

Somerset go past 200 at Chelmsford as Matt Renshaw moves within sight of his century.

Far more interesting than this dull game on a moribund pitch is BBC Radio Essex currently having Essex chief executive John Stephenson up there in the commentary box with them, talking cricket with Paul Newton.

Essential listening for anyone who cares about the future of county cricket, in the wake of continued press speculation as to what is or isn't in the forthcoming, potentially ominous Strauss Report.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Sales c Bracey b Chappell 71 (Glos 317 v Northants 464-9)

Zak Chappell strikes for Gloucestershire, who finally break this ninth-wicket stand of 78.

James Sales is the man to go, glancing one down the leg side into the gloves of James Bracey for a career-best 71.

That brings Jack White to the middle, where Ben Sanderson is looking well set on 37!

  6. Postpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Glos 317 v Northants 463-8

Northamptonshire are still batting at Cheltenham, with their lead over Gloucestershire ever increasing, and Ben Sanderson has moved on to his highest score of the season, with 37 not out.

The Northants paceman, whose career-best in any format of the game stands at 42, must surely be starting to think about the possibility of a maiden first-class fifty now...

  7. 'Blame the pitch, not the players'published at 13:30 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Essex 505-9 dec, Somerset 186-1 (60 overs)

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

A pitch which has got slower with every session defied even the efforts of the dreaded Simon Harmer to spark some life out of it, as Somerset added 87 to their overnight 99-1 without losing a wicket.

The partnership of Matt Renshaw and Tom Abell has so far added 146 relatively trouble-free runs, as Somerset make steady progress towards their target of 356 to avoid any possibility of being asked to follow on.

It hasn't made for great entertainment for another good crowd, but you can blame the pitch for that, not the players.

  8. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Notts 240 & 49-3, Sussex 143

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Eight wickets in the session at Trent Bridge after Sussex lost their last five for just 23. Dane Paterson and James Pattinson ended with five apiece.

However, Sussex then fought back with who else but Ollie Robinson.

He took his haul in the match to seven and, in just his third game of the season, is already the club's joint leading wicket taker.

This pitch is still offering help to the seamers and Notts still hold the upper hand, particularly against a weakened Sussex batting line-up missing the injured Toms, Haines and Alsop.

  9. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Derbyshire 130 & 343, Worcestershire 185 & 31-0

    Dan Wheeler
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

Just when they needed it, Worcestershire produced with the new ball to clean up the Derbyshire second innings and finalise what they need to win this cracking match - 289.

After a period of quiet accumulation, Mattie McKiernan attempted to wipe Dillon Pennington to mid-wicket, but top-edged a skier to Josh Baker who hung on well at deep third man.

That ended a stand of 140 with Anuj Dal, who finished 112 not out to notch his third red-ball ton of the summer and open up the tail.

Ben Aitchison nicked behind off Joe Leach, Jack Haynes held a daisy-cutter at slip off Ed Barnard to get rid of Sam Conners before George Scrimshaw wedged Baker to Jake Libby at mid off as the last four wickets fell for 37.

Ed Pollock has already smeared a six over midwicket and looks in the mood again to thrust the Pears towards victory following his hurricane hundred against Middlesex. His is a high-octane, high-risk strategy. It could end quickly. It could also be sensational.

    Lancashire's morning at Old Trafford.

Only one wicket lost, that of Keaton Jennings.

But Luke Wells (59) and Josh Bohannon (29) look well set - and the Kent lead has been whttled back to just 16 at lunch.

  12. Lunch at Scarboroughpublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Yorkshire 159 & 98-3, Hampshire 218

It is the 93rd of his career, of which he has previously gone on to make three figures 29 times, including three against Hampshire.

  13. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Essex 505-9 dec, Somerset 186-1

Successful morning for Somerset against Essex at Chelmsford.

Aussie opener Matt Renshaw (79) and skipper Tom Abell (71) have seen their side safely through to lunch.

Just 87 scored in the morning session - but crucially no wickets.

Still a long way to go to save this game, but this is a sound start. The pair have now put on 146.

  14. Lunch at the Ovalpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Surrey 316 v Warwicks 253 & 74-3

Surrey are still on top in south London, despite the blow of losing Jamie Overton - who had to be helped off the field after pulling up during his delivery stride.

Chris Benjamin battled hard for his 38, but he fell just before lunch to spinner Will Jacks to leave Warwickshire three down and just 11 runs ahead.

Alex Davies is 23 not out, with Sam Hain at the other end on two.

  15. 'Encouraging so far for the Red Rose'published at 13:01 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Lancashire 145 & 98-1, Kent 270

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

Matt Henry was causing chaos yesterday.

He ripped through the Lancashire batting line-up and the pitch looked almost impossible to play on.

Fast forward 24 hours and Lancashire have so far looked reasonably comfortable.

    Luke WellsImage source, Rex Features

Luke Wells has played well, with a couple of glorious backfoot cover drives.

Tom Bailey last night said they 'need to make a score'.

Winning is a must for the Red Rose and they've made an encouraging start.

  16. Lunch at Cheltenhampublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Glos 317 v Northants 454-8

It's been very much Northamptonshire's morning, with just one wicket falling and James Sales and Ben Sanderson have stretched their side's lead to 137.

The ninth-wicket pair have added 68 so far, with Sales hitting a career-best 69 not out and Sanderson enjoying himself at the other end, playing a strong supporting role on 30 not out.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Benjamin c Foakes b Jacks 38 (Surrey 316 v Warwicks 253 & 68-3)

Surrey have been ringing the changes in terms of bowlers - and it's Will Jacks who does the trick with only his second ball!

Jacks tempts Chris Benjamin forward outside off stump and Ben Foakes gobbles up the edge at the second attempt.

Bad time for the Bears to lose a wicket, with Sam Hain coming to the crease as we approach lunch.

  18. 50 runs

Half-century for Luke Wellspublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Lancashire 145 & 90-1, Kent 270

Third first-class fifty of the summer for Lancashire opener Luke Wells - the 60th of his career.

Kent's 125-run first-innings lead is slowly being whittled away here. Actually, not that slowly. They have, in reality, scored quite quickly.

With 20 minutes to go until the scheduled 1.10 lunch time, Kent legspinner Joe Denly comes on.

  19. Postpublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Surrey 316 v Warwicks 253 & 64-2

The good news for Warwickshire is that they're out of the red, having wiped out the first-innings deficit of 63 with just two wickets down.

Chris Benjamin has reached 35 not out, with Alex Davies on 22, and Surrey are trying to reshuffle their attack after the injured Jamie Overton had to be helped from the field.

Conor McKerr has bowled tidily, while Kemar Roach is back on now for a second spell.

  20. Derbyshire set Worcestershire 289 to winpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Worcs 185 v Derbys 130 & 343

There's an intriguing run chase in prospect at New Road, where Worcestershire have finally bowled the visitors out for 343 in their second innings.

Anuj Dal's unbeaten 112 has given Derbyshire genuine hope of victory - although the Pears made short work of what had looked a tricky fourth-innings target last time out against Middlesex.

They need 289 to win this one...
