You can hang your head as a bowler after a few deliveries or you can stay in your over and know that every ball is crucial.

    That's a half-tracker, he's completely mis-hit it and that's a big bonus for Somerset.

It will be a massive relief for Lewis Goldsworthy, who was having a torrid first over. That could have gone for six over cover again, and it was not a good piece of bowling.

Tom Prest gives himself room and cuts Lewis Goldsworthy away for four before hoisting the next over mid-off. Clearly the 19-year-old doesn't lack confidence.

Ben McDermott slams the left-armer in a similar direction for six and in trying to compensate, Goldsworthy sends four wides down the leg-side.

Goldsworthy keeps his head, though, and McDermott slices a catch to cover as he tries to clear the off-side ring.

Great bowling by RVDM - just a single, for Tom Prest, from the final four deliveries of his opening over.

Spin strikes again on Finals Day. It feels like an unnecessary shot because of the boundary the ball before, he could have just rotated the strike.

But that's the type of cricket Hampshire play and it's hard to be negative when it's reaped so many rewards to get them to this point.

Time for spin from Roelof van der Merwe.

James Vince just clears cover from his opening delivery and adds four to the total.

But he gets underneath a similar shot from the next one and it's a comfortable catch for Tom Abell.

A moment of joy in Cider country to see Hampshire's main man back in the dugout.

In the words of Adam Ant, Dennis Moore and no doubt many others, it's 'stand and deliver' as James Vince lofts the first ball of a new Jack Brooks over for four.

Three balls later, Ben McDermott takes a couple of steps down the track and belts a towering six over mid-wicket.

McDermott gets the ramp right to end the over as four more are added to the Hawks' total. Somerset badly need a wicket.

Aussie v Aussie as Peter Siddle charges in and Ben McDermott carves his opening delivery through the covers for four.

There's a direct hit by Lewis Gregory from mid-off but McDermott is through for a single and James Vince effortlessly eases the next straight down the ground for another boundary.

The runs continue to flow as Vince drives square for four and is content to end the over with one to keep the strike - 15 from it.

Never too much fanfare with these two. They're both traditional and play classical shots.

Here comes the headband warrior, Jack Brooks.

He has only played four games for Somerset in this season's competition before this one.

Ben McDermott shapes to try a ramp shot, but Brooks spots it and digs it in short and there is no run from that one.

The next, though, is fuller and wide outside off stump and McDermott slashes it away over backward point for the game's first six.

    Hampshire 4-0

A little bit of early swing and bounce for Tom Lammonby, but Ben McDermott is away with a nudge off the hip for one.

It was on this very ground in 1985 that Ian Botham smashed the first ball of his innings in a Test for six off Ben's dad, Craig McDermott.

No real show of aggression from Hampshire - four from it.

So we have the 2005 winners, Somerset, up against the 2010 and 2012 champions, Hampshire in our second semi-final.

Both teams have plenty of potential match-winners in their ranks, but how important will the absence of Overton and Davey from Somerset's bowling attack prove to be? The pair have taken a combined 25 wickets in the competition.

The teams are on the way out to the middle - and I'm not daft enough to try and predict the outcome.

Here we go. The remote-controlled car carrying the ball is on its way.

  19. Can Vince and co end Hawks' semi-final hoodoo?published at 14:27 British Summer Time 16 July 2022

Surely a semi-final at Edgbaston has to go Hampshire’s way at some point? Six semis and six defeats since they lifted the T20 Blast trophy in Cardiff 10 years ago.

Optimism comes from the fact that they are a better side than when these two teams met at this stage last season.

James Vince is not far off surpassing the record for a domestic T20 season (710), which he himself set back in 2015.

His opening partnership with Aussie Ben McDermott has also proved productive. Twice they have set a county opening partnership record of 124 and 132 in successive games against Sussex and Middlesex.

But there’s more to the team than those two.

Aussie seamer Nathan Ellis has been one of the signings of the competition. His mixture of pace and slower balls has been of the highest class.

Then there’s the experience. Liam Dawson will be playing in his eighth Finals Day, Chris Wood his seventh. Then, inevitably, we go back to Vince who is about to make his 10th Finals Day appearance.

  20. Power-hitting of top three is Somerset's 'greatest strength'published at 14:24 British Summer Time 16 July 2022

Hampshire Hawks v Somerset (starts 14:30)

Somerset are a settled side with a clear game plan.

Their greatest strength is probably the power-hitting of their top three, Will Smeed, Tom Banton and Rilee Rossouw, and if they don't come off, there is no-one more skilful at marshalling the middle order than skipper Tom Abell.

Somerset's bowling, particularly at the death, is now as much of a strength as a weakness and they field brilliantly.

If they play to their potential, they'll be hard to beat.
