    Just five singles conceded.

Excellent over from slow left-armer Tom Hartley who's getting plenty of turn and bounce off this Edgbaston wicket.

Absolutely crucial for Hampshire that McDermott bats quite a few of these overs, because if he does, Hampshire will have a really challenging total.

Powerplay done and I think Hampshire would take this score having been 15-2 at the end of the third.

    YES!

Ben McDermott skips down the track and pumps Danny Lamb's second ball over deep mid-wicket for a big maximum.

McDermott is up to 28 off 15 balls.

Lancashire are doing a fantastic job, they've got two wickets and are one wicket away from thinking they're ahead in this game.

Luke Wood has got some serious wheels.

The Lancashire left-armer bangs in a short one and it flies over the head of Joe Weatherley and wicketkeeper Phil Salt and down to the boundary.

It's given as a no-ball. A couple more singles are followed by a swipe for six by Ben McDermott.

Expensive over with 15 coming off it. That relieves a lot of pressure.

From Mark: "Hampshire’s game is completely based around defence and containment. Trouble is you need a decent total to defend. Early doors but Lancs already in the pound seat. #bbccricket, external"

    Hampshire finally get going.

Ben McDermott punches Richard Gleeson back down the ground for four and follows it with a flay over the covers which also goes to the rope.

    Eight off the over.

  11. A lovely night for cricket in Brumpublished at 19:04 British Summer Time 16 July 2022

The start of tonight's final in glorious Birmingham sunshine - and still with such a good crowd in - makes you realise the sound common sense of moving T20 Finals Day from September to mid-July.

Cricketing officialdom has got knocked occasionally down the years for making the odd controversial decision.

But this is what Finals Day was meant for.

In the old September slot, it did used to get a bit parky out there, when it came round to the final. But tonight the only Parky is out there playing for Lancashire, leg-spinner Matt Parkinson, and it's now a lovely stage for cricket on a pleasant summer's evening.

The comparative lack of gaps in the crowd seems to show that even some Yorkshire and Somerset fans must have stopped on too! Or am I imagining that?

It's a different game against these faster bowlers. This pace is unnerving Hampshire a little bit.

Hampshire's semi-final hero Tom Prest falls cheaply this time around.

The teenager is surprised by a bit of bounce from left-armer Luke Wood and skies it.

Tom Hartley takes a good catch running in with two other team-mates closing in.

I love the intent! Proper white ball, fast bowling and being aggressive with the intention of getting early wickets to topple this Hampshire team.

Some serious pace in that over from Richard Gleeson, a smidge below 90mph at times.

And the key wicket of James Vince.

    Great start for Lightning.

Hit the wicket hard! Vince was not in a great position, a very nice wicket and exactly what Lancashire would have wanted - pressure on Hampshire early.

    BOWLED!

James Vince tries to pump paceman Richard Gleeson through the covers but misses and the ball clatters into the stumps.

It was too straight for that shot.

Huge wicket for Lancashire as the Hampshire skipper goes.

  19. Bat first or second?published at 18:49 British Summer Time 16 July 2022

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

The side batting second in T20 finals have the slight edge. 10 wins, as opposed to nine for the side batting first.

But it does seem to go in cycles.

For the first five years of the T20, it was always the side which chased who won.

Then, in seven years out of eight, it was the side batting first.

And, for the last six years, four chasing sides have won.

Of course, you can also read too much into these sorts of thing!

  20. Postpublished at 1 over

    Hants 9-0

A nice, solid start from Lancashire spinner Tom Hartley as he concedes five off his first five deliveries and manages to find a bit of turn.

But the last ball of the over is swept hard by Ben McDermott and flies to the rope.
