    Warner c Shanaka b Maheesh 11 (Aus 26-1)

    Lovely catch!

David Warner didn't want to take a look at Maheesh Theekshana and decides to try and crash his first ball away through the covers.

He times it well to be fair, but it is straight in the direction of Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka, who takes a brilliant catch, low to the ground.

    Australia are struggling.

You've got to get used to the pitch with the bounce, and when that ball gets a little bit softer it can get it off the bat beautifully.

  3. Aus 26-0published at 4 overs

    Target 158

We've just seen three replays where Aaron Finch has been cut in half and edged past the stumps already, and every time, he's leaping in the air in an uncomfortable nature. That's not a good base to play good cricket shots from.

Oh my! Lahiru Kumara cuts Finch in half again. The ball goes over the stumps though and Kusal Mendis can't gather behind the stumps. Not the best keeping in the world that.

Finch is then struck on the pads, as he hops around in his crease again.

  4. Aus 19-0published at 3 overs

    Target 158

While everything that Aaron Finch is doing at the moment seems disjointed and frenetic, David Warner looks still and calm at the other end. He's working the ball around beautifully.

We haven't seen a boundary in the opening three overs, though. Australia aren't exactly putting their foot down looking for a quick win right now.

Jambarrell: Australia's middle order is soft for me - Maxwell and Stoinis each a place too high.

  6. Aus 14-0published at 2.2 overs

    Target 158

Is Aaron Finch batting with a toothpick at the moment?

He misses with a flick, causing Chamika Karunaratne to go up in appeal as the ball crashes into the pads. The ball was doing too much though, and straying down the leg side.

    A wide follows, before wowee!

Finch tries to cut away and a thick inside edge JUST misses the stumps. Another coat of varnish and that would have hit the stumps.

There is that bounce on the wicket and on any other field that would've hit the stumps, but not here at Perth.

  8. Aus 12-0published at 2 overs

    Target 158

Aaron Finch is really struggling at the moment. How much more of him will we see in international cricket?

A beautiful piece of bowling by Lahiru Kumara cuts the Australia captain in half, who purses his lips to appreciate the delivery, and the slice of luck he's been given.

He gets off strike with a thick inside edge down to fine leg, before David Warmer blocks out the final ball.

  9. Aus 11-0published at 1.3 overs

    Target 158

Lahiru Kumara strays wayyyyy down the leg side and the ball flies away for four byes.

That's much better, though. Kumara has Aaron Finch skipping and leaping in his crease with a ball that bounces past the outside edge.

    Keep bowling there.

  10. Aus 6-0published at 1 over

    Target 158

Off-spinner Dhananjaya de Silva completes the first over.

    David Warner blocks it out.

A decent start from Sri Lanka, but their plans are likely to be in tatters now.

  11. Aus 6-0published at 0.5 overs

    Oh no. What's happening here?

Binura Fernando has taken his jumper off the umpire and is walking off the ground.

Sri Lanka have already lost Dushmantha Chameera and Dilshan Madushanka in this tournament.

They are starting to look thin on options.

  12. Aus 4-0published at 0.3 overs

    Target 158

    Leggy again from Binura Fernando.

Aaron Finch and David Warner try to sneak through for a leg bye, and succeed, despite the throw hitting the stumps at the non-striker's end.

Finch was comfortably home, they didn't even send it upstairs.

  13. Aus 3-0published at 0.2 overs

    Target 158

You can't bowl on the hips of David Warner.

Binura Fernando strays in line and the Australia opener whips him through mid-wicket for three.

    Lovely shot.

  14. Aus 0-0published at 0.1 overs

    Target 158

Left-arm seamer Binura Fernando is going to open the bowling for Sri Lanka.

His first ball is blocked into the covers by David Warner.

Right, no messing in Perth. The chase is about to commence.

Australia, realistically, need to win. It'll be interesting to see how they approach this, because ideally they need to win quickly too to help their net run-rate after the heavy opening-game defeat against New Zealand.

It won't be easy though. Sri Lanka have the third-ranked bowler in the world in Wanindu Hasaranga and the sixth-ranked in Maheesh Theekshana.

    Bring it on.

Charith Asalanka played beautifully towards the end of that Sri Lanka innings.

If they win this the left-hander will have played a huge part in the success.

    Thanks Tom.

Could that last over be a little momentum changer for Sri Lanka?

Who do you fancy to win from here?

Thumbs up for Australia, thumbs down for Sri Lanka.

  19. Postpublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 25 October 2022

So Australia need 158 to win. They will back themselves to hunt that down but the late flurry of runs from Sri Lanka has given them the momentum.

Australia not only need to win but win convincingly to boost their net run rate, which could prove pivotal in the final shake up.

Here to guide you through their chase is Callum Matthews.

Australia bowler Josh Hazlewood: "The wicket played part and did so throughout the innings. Sri Lanka got 157 so it's game on.

"The wicket here is really nice to run in on. It's like Adelaide and Melbourne now. Gone are the days for uphill run ins hopefully.

"We have to get that total hopefully. Getting it early will be ideal."
