Ireland win by five runs on Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method
Both sides have now won one, lost one

This is a very positive start for Ireland.
Four more. Too much width from Woakes this time and Tucker slashes it past a diving Alex Hales.
It just evades his outstretched hand and he shakes it in a bit of pain, but would be very harsh to call it a drop. A productive over for Ireland.

A great way to practice the scoop is with softer balls, then you're not going to get hurt.

That's terrific innovation, a fine shot.
Oh, lovely! Lorcan Tucker ramps one over his shoulder for four.
Rate that.
Mark Wood sends down a rather wild wide, going miles down the leg side where Jos Buttler makes a remarkable goalkeeper-like save.
But then he throws at the stumps for an attempted run out and Ireland get a couple of overthrows.
Very village.

The Barmy Army were singing their Mark Wood song through that over. He pointed to them as he celebrated the wicket.

He was the dangerman, one of the best openers in world cricket. He's a little bit unlucky, but deep third is a catching position in Australia.
Stirling c Curran b Wood 14 (Ire 21-1)
No mistake this time!
Stirling goes again, trying to take on Wood's extra pace, but this is a much easier chance for Curran. Straight into the hands at deep third.
Mark Wood is ecstatic, as ever.

It's a brilliant effort by Curran. It will reignite talk about the size of the sponge. If that was a rope he wouldn't have touched it.
Oh! It's almost a piece of absolute brilliance from Sam Curran.
Stirling swings hard at Mark Wood's first ball and the ball flies high off the edge down to third man, where Curran dives over and throws the ball back in. But his foot just clips the boundary sponge and is given as six.
England will want to see the back of Paul Stirling pretty soon. He can be dangerous when he gets going.
Shot! Andy Balbirnie slices the last ball of the over for four over cover.
The outfield is pretty damp so it trickles away slowly but eventually reaches the ropes.
Yay! We're back.

The rain isn't heavy, just really annoying, The seagulls are enjoying it.
The covers are coming off. No restart time given yet but we will let you know as soon as we have news.
Fingers crossed we're not waiting too much longer.

It has indeed brightened up. Should be back out soon. They're rolling the big covers up.
It looks like it's a bit brighter again now.
But we said that 15 minutes ago, so I'm not going to make any kind of predictions. They're dragging that rope thing around the ground now to get the surface water off though, which I think is a good sign.

Kumaran Ravendradas: Is there a better sight in cricket than watching a fast bowler bowl an away swinging good length ball that the wicket keeper takes above his head? The MCG pitch looks quick. Shame about the weather.

This is the heaviest it has rained all day.
