  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 7.3 overs

    D Hooda c De Kock b Nortje 0 (Ind 42-4)

Edged and gone! South Africa are in dreamland!

Pace does funny things to batters and Nortje has got it in spades. It's full, outside off and Deepak Hooda is enticed into the drive.

The edge is found and it's a regulation catch for Quinton de Kock. India are in all sorts of trouble now.

  2. Ind 41-3published at 7 overs

The crowd was buzzing while Kohli was at the crease but it's all gone quiet now.

Deepak Hooda is the new batter, joining Suryakumar Yadav in the middle.

There is a hush around the ground now Virat Kohli has been dismissed.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6.5 overs

    Kohli c Rabada b Ngidi 12 (Ind 41-3)

That's the big wicket! Virat Kohli is dismissed for the first time in the tournament!

Short ball again, Kohli takes it on, top-edges it and Kagiso Rabada takes a very good catch running around the boundary at fine leg.

It's three wickets for Lungi Ngidi - and what a three it is!

You can hear the sound, a crisp shot off the bat. Temba Bavuma can chase the ball all he wants he isn't getting anywhere near it.

  7. Ind 41-2published at 6.2 overs

Just brilliant from Virat Kohli! Back-to-back boundaries to start Ngidi's second over.

The first is hit at the top of the bounce, pummelled through the covers gloriously.

That is followed by a whip through mid-wicket that races away and takes him to 1,000 runs in T20 World Cups.

Top-order batsmen in T20s sometimes go away from the basics. If it is a good ball you need to play a good cricket shot.

  10. Ind 33-2published at 6 overs

Good over from Nortje and, as ever, the pace is such that he's got everyone checking the speed gun.

A rapid bouncer ends the over and Suryakumar Yadav was nowhere near it with his attempted hook shot. That was clocked at over 90mph.

That really did nip back a long way. I thought it had hit something for a moment.

  12. Ind 30-2published at 5.1 overs

How has that missed!? It's an absolute beauty from Anrich Nortje to Virat Kohli, the ball comes back sharply off the seam, beats the inside edge and goes just over the top of the stumps.

It beats Quinton de Kock, too, and goes away for four byes. So close!

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 5 overs

    Rahul c Markram b Ngidi 9 (Ind 26-2)

It's catching practice for first slip!

Back of a length from Lungi Ngidi, KL Rahul opens the face and looks to guide the ball down to third. However, he seems to forget there is a slip in and the ball goes at a perfect height for Aiden Markram.

Both India openers fall in the space of five balls.

Rohit hit that on the move so he didn't have any balance. Ngidi has probably bowled it a little short as well so it is smart bowling. But Rohit is a better batter than that so it's a disappointing way to get out.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.2 overs

    Rohit c & b Ngidi 15 (Ind 23-1)

Lungi Ngidi ousts the India captain!

Banged into the surface by the South Africa seamer, Rohit Sharma tries to pull it but is cramped for room and loops a straightforward catch back to the bowler.

Big wicket for South Africa. But here comes Virat...

  16. Ind 21-0published at 4 overs

Just a single to end Rabada's over. That earlier full toss was the first bad ball he's bowled and that is what Rohit and Rahul have done well. Even when South Africa's bowlers have been bowling well, they've been ready and waiting to punish anything loose.

That's the first full ball Rabada has bowled.

He has bowled one short ball and one full ball and both have gone for boundaries. The rest have been a good length.

  18. Ind 20-0published at 3.4 overs

Full toss from Rabada, on Rohit's pads and the India captain gratefully clips it behind square for four.

    Easy pickings.

  19. Ind 14-0published at 3 overs

Rahul is back up and ready to continue. However, Parnell beats him again - on the inside edge this time - to end the over.

This has been an excellent start from South Africa. There have been 14 dot balls in the first 18.

  20. ouch!

    Ind 14-0published at 2.5 overs

Rahul is down after being hit in a rather delicate area. He looks in a lot of pain, I can't say I'm surprised.

Still, that doesn't prevent Virat Kohli having a bit of a chuckle on the India bench.
