A couple more wickets to show you, starting with this one. Deepak Hooda came into the India XI today but was dismissed for a duck by Anrich Nortje.

An edge behind and a simple catch for Quinton de Kock.

That was a very watchful Dinesh Karthik. I reckon he is setting himself up to go big at the back end of the innings. That is what he did so well in the IPL.

So from a cricketing point of view I'd love to see him bat a good chunk of these nine overs as we could see some fireworks.

  3. Ind 67-5published at 11 overs

Decent comeback from Maharaj after conceding the boundary first ball. Just three singles from the next five balls with Dinesh Karthik being particularly watchful in that over.

  4. Ind 64-5published at 10.1 overs

Back under way in Perth, South Africa have turned to spin and India have decided to go after it.

It's not a great ball to start from Keshav Maharaj, short and wide and cut away behind square by Suryakumar Yadav. Four.

India still have two experienced batters at the crease so if they can build a partnership they can still to that 140 mark. And if they do that they have a decent bowling attack to defend such a total.

  6. WATCH - Kohli dismissed for first time in tournamentpublished at 11:52 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2022

...and just when Lungi Ngidi thought things couldn't get any better, he had Virat Kohli caught at fine leg.

It is the first time the former India skipper has been dismissed in this tournament.

  7. WATCH - Simple slip catch dismisses Rahulpublished at 11:50 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2022

Ngidi struck again later in the over, this time having KL Rahul caught at first slip.

    Six, dropped, out.

Rohit Sharma's innings was certainly eventful.

Time for a very quick recap...

  10. Ind 60-5published at 10 overs

Nortje didn't take kindly to that six and comes back firing with three very quick deliveries that Suryakumar can't get near.

A single from the last means India are at least going at a run a ball now. Time for drinks. What a first half of the innings it's been!

    Ind 59-5published at 9.2 overs

Suryakumar has a huge role to play now for India. He shuffles across his stumps and swings the ball away over fine leg, just over the rope for six.

Is that the start of an India fightback?

  13. Ind 51-5published at 9 overs

The 50 is up for India so that's something...

It really has been a stunning effort from South Africa so far, though. Lungi Ngidi's selection looks inspired, he's taken 4-17 from three overs.

What a super catch that was from Kagiso Rabada diving forward at fine leg.

    This is extraordinary.

    Hardik c Rabada b Ngidi 2 (Ind 49-5)

WHAT A CATCH! This is incredible, India are five down and Lungi Ngidi has four of them!

This is all about Kagiso Rabada though. Hardik Pandya just tried to help the bouncer around the corner, the extra bounce meant it carried that bit further but Rabada still had so much to do.

He came charging in from fine leg, dived forward and took the catch about two inches off the ground. Remarkable!

Aiden Markram wasn't far away, diving full stretch into the air. He gave it everything at first slip. It just shows the pace of this pitch.

  19. Ind 47-4published at 8 overs

Nearly a fifth wicket for South Africa! Nortje finds the edge again but the pace and bounce helps India on this occasion.

The ball flew off Suryakumar's edge but over Markram's head at slip. He gave it a good go but just couldn't reach it.

Deepak Hooda's foot was not at the pitch of the ball. He swung his hands at it and the extra bounce and the pace Nortje was bowling has done for him.
