  1. dropped catch

Marsh dropped on 21published at 6.1 overs

    Aus 53-3

Australia should be four down! A wide delivery from Gulbadin, Marsh drives at it and it skews off the outside half of the bat to backward point.

Najib is there, it's a regulation chance but it bursts through his hands and Marsh survives. How big a moment could that be, not only in this game but in the context of this group?

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6 overs

    Smith lbw b Naveen 4 (Aus 54-3)

Gone! It's plumb in the end and Smith takes a review with him.

The ball nipped back from Naveen, Smith was trapped on the crease and ball-tracking shows he was hit in front of middle and off with the ball going on to thump into leg stump.

Afghanistan have hit back superbly in the last over of the powerplay.

  3. Australia reviewpublished at 6 overs

    Aus 54-3

Have Afghanistan got a third wicket with the last ball of the powerplay?

Steve Smith is caught on the crease by Naveen and the umpire raises his finger.

Smith reviews but that could be very close.

He turned round completely to become a right-hander and the stumps are off!

    Stick to being a left-hander.

  5. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 5.2 overs

    Warner b Naveen 25 (Aus 50-2)

Oh, Davey. What have you done!?

Warner switches into a right-handed stance just as Naveen-ul-Haq was about to delivery the ball, attempts a drive and is bowled all ends up! Absolutely ridiculous.

He had played so well but while he's a brilliant batter left-handed, he's not up to much as a right-hander based on that shot!

Australia will be looking for 200-plus to put some pressure on England.

Australia have been dominant in the powerplay to this point but Afghanistan have taken one wicket. Cameron Green caught at first slip off the bowling of Fazal Farooqi.

  8. Aus 49-1published at 5 overs

Australia deal in singles for the remainder of the over after that massive Marsh six to start the over.

Mujeeb - the usually so economical Mujeeb - has gone for 27 in two overs so far. If the spinners go the distance, Afghanistan are in big trouble, that's their big strength.

That was huge! Marsh on the slog-sweep and they're going after Mujeeb.

  10. 6 runs

    Aus 44-1published at 4.1 overs

Big, big hit! Mujeeb comes back and Mitch Marsh slog-sweeps the first ball of the over, high over deep square and into the stands!

The Afghanistan spinner is under pressure now...

  11. Aus 38-1published at 4 overs

Another overthrow! It has been an extremely untidy start from Afghanistan in the field.

They have held on to the one catch but the ground fielding has been that much less impressive.

  12. Aus 33-1published at 3.3 overs

A first boundary of the innings for Mitch Marsh but he's not in control of that shot at all.

The ball was Naveen-ul-Haq looked like it was there to be hit, a half-volley outside off but Marsh gets it all wrong as he tries to hit over the top. Instead the ball spirals over backward point but, still, away for four.

Warner is not letting go of Australia's hopes and dreams of getting into the semi-finals. This is their last group game.

Will there be a tomorrow for them?

  14. Aus 27-1published at 3 overs

Warner is going all very nicely! He just helps this delivery from Farooqi through mid-wicket and it looks like Rashid Khan will cut it off easily. But the ball just keeps going and beats the fielder's despairing dive.

Just five from the over, though, plus the wicket of Green. Well bowled by Farooqi.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2.1 overs

    Green c Gulbadin b Farooqi 3 (Aus 22-1)

    Edged and gone!

Cameron Green is out second ball as he goes after a short, relatively wide delivery from Fazal Farooqi and nicks it to first slip.

The ball went quickly but at a good height for Gulbadin Naib. No mistake from the former Afghanistan skipper.

This is exactly what the doctor ordered: Be aggressive in the powerplay.

Warner is taking the risk and getting the reward.

  18. Aus 22-0published at 2 overs

Mujeeb ends the over with two dot balls but those only after Warner had added this third boundary of the over.

The left-hander was on the sweep again - conventional rather than reverse this time - and got the ball away fine. An expensive over to start for Mujeeb.

We saw exactly this happen in the previous game when spin comes on and the batters are able to accelerate.

  20. Aus 13-0published at 1.3 overs

Afghanistan go to spin early with Mujeeb Ur Rahman bowling the second over and Warner doesn't need any invitation to try and get after him.

He gets four from the second ball with a lovely reverse sweep, up and over backward point.

Four more! Poor ball this time from Mujeeb and Warner easily flicks it behind square.
