Phil Salt is the obvious one to bring if Dawid Malan cannot play the semi-final. I don't think that's a bad move for England. He's not the type of guy who needs warm-up games, and will just strike it out the middle of the bat. He will not think about things too much. It could be a good move for England.

A bit more from Jos Buttler, speaking to TMS: "I still think our best game is ahead of us in the tournament. We can put in more complete performances than we have. We have done enough to get through and now it's about going to the real knockout stage and expressing ourselves. It's the reason you play the game. To get to semi-finals and finals and try to win things, and hopefully we're in a position to do that. If we play India it will be a fantastic occasion."

Adil Rashid's first over changed the game for England. He came on with only two men out against two set batters and went for not many. That was remarkable. He hasn't taken the wickets but his spell of bowling was crucial. That's why he was man of the match today. He's winning games for England without anyone even noticing.

Pathum Nissanka got Sri Lanka off to a great start and they were eyeing up 170, before player of the match Adil Rashid worked his magic.

England's bowlers saved them in the middle and at the death, before a tense run chase was rescued by Ben Stokes.

England captain Jos Buttler, speaking to TMS: "It was a lot more nervy than it needed to be, but we found a way to get the job done. Ben Stokes was there and he's a guy who can win you a game with bat, ball and in the field. There was no questioning of him within the group. The nature of T20 cricket means you won't always comes with off with the bat. He's a proper match winner and he showed that in a different way today.

"The middle order? I take responsibility myself because we were in a good position and we let them back in with wickets. These pitches are not easy to start on and small partnerships can be valuable. I looked at myself and should been out there having done the hard work."

On Dawid Malan's injury: "It's too early to tell but fingers crossed he'll pull up well. He would have batted if he needed to. Running would have been difficult but he would have gone out there."

It's disappointing for Australia to go out but they weren't good enough. They will have a debrief and a bit of soul searching.

There's some guys who have been around for a while, and we have to start looking to some younger guys. Cameron Green is the only player under 29.

I think this especially applies to the bowlers who play all three formats. Questions are going to be asked about what our team will look like for the next T20 World Cup, and I think half these guys won't be there.

England's win, of course, means that defending champions and hosts Australia are out.

Brutal game, cricket.

Sri Lanka coach Chris Silverwood, speaking to TMS: "We knew this was going to be a difficult game. England have power all the way down the batting line up and great options with the ball. They have the potential to go on and win the tournament and I'll be watching with great interest.

"The big thing for me from a Sri Lanka perspective is to keep the team moving forward and on our day we can compete. It's part of the growth cycle and today we showed character."

England bowler Adil Rashid speaking to Sky Sports: "I think Sri Lanka bowled exceptionally well, created pressure, bowled dots. That's the way game goes. Stokesky played magnificently. We stuck to it and got over the line.

"In T20 cricket, in the first six they can get off to a flyer but we bowled well as a team. It was quite nice to bowl a few dots, create a few chances.

"It's nice to bowl when there's a bit of assistance, in Australia you don't always get that. I've felt quite good before the tournament. Sometimes you feel good and don't get the wickets, sometimes you feel bad and you do."

So England will most likely play India in the semi-final, as they will finish top of Group Two if they beat Zimbabwe tomorrow.

If South Africa beat the Netherlands, also tomorrow, they will also be through and play New Zealand in the other game.

England fast bowler Mark Wood speaking to TMS: "I was as nervous as anything waiting to bat with my pads on! My heart rate will hopefully come down. A bit nervy but we got there in the end. I am sure we will be disappointed with making it so close, but the seamers all day seemed to go for runs and the spinners squeezed us a little. But Ben Stokes, who has done it in that type situation, stood up.

"Ben is a big game player. We needed him there and he did it for us. We played well up top. I don't think it's an easy wicket to start on. I think the middle order will cash in on a better pitch.

"We dragged it back well with the ball and 140 odd was good for us, and we did well to take wickets at the end. Adil Rashid was excellent, he hasn't got the wickets he deserved. Even tonight he didn't come away with bucket loads but got wickets for other people. We move on to the semi-final. We want to go one better this time, having gone out at that stage last time. If it's India, it will be a great match."

It was comfortable all along! England went into their shells to get it done.

In T20 you lose wickets because it's high-risk cricket. This England team plays aggressive cricket in this way. They have got the job done, and that's the most important thing.

It wouldn't be an England win without a little scare, would it?

The chase of 142 was set up by the openers, Hales and Buttler adding 75 in 7.2 overs.

And finished off calmly by that man Ben Stokes - again.

Sri Lanka will rue the fact they didn't get 20 or 30 runs more. Even if they had gone a run a ball in the last seven overs they would have got there. That would have been a lot more challenging for England.

He's done it. The ball goes for four after some width. England should have won much easier than that, and they have to be honest about how they have gone about that run chase. How the middle order went about it put some really pressure on at the end.

They've done it! Chris Woakes crashes four runs through cover and England are into the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup!

It wasn't easy - a flurry of middle-order wickets made us a little twitchy and they will certainly have to play much better in the semis, but they've got over the line thanks to an unbeaten 42 from Ben Stokes.
