You get the feeling with Alex Hales, it's sink or swim. He'll look to go after the bowling quite early. He tried to on the back foot to Maheesh Theekshana's final ball and that was a very risky shot.

  4. Eng 3-0published at 1 overs

Maheesh Theekshana was out with the final ball of the Sri Lankan innings and he returns to open the bowling with some off-breaks. Pace off straight away for Sri Lanka - England's first five overs were all seam.

England get off the mark with some runs into the leg-side. Some danger for Hales off the final ball of the over as he almost clips behind.

I'm backing England here if I'm being objective. 140 odd is not enough on this wicket. Sri Lanka had a great start but England, to their credit, fought back. England have the momentum and we know Alex Hales and Jos Buttler could take it down to a run a ball.

The Sri Lanka team make their way back onto the field at the SCG. And here's Alex Hales and Jos Buttler - we're just about ready to restart.

The news from the England camp is Dawid Malan has tweaked a groin. He is likely to be pushed down the order and certainly won't bat at number three.

Sri Lanka's innings may have ended poorly, but it was a fantastic start from Pathum Nissanka. Why not enjoy the best of his innings during the interval?

England bowler Adil Rashid: "I thought we bowled exceptionally well. They came out aggressive and got a good start but we stuck to our strengths and came out strong at the end so we are happy with that.

"They started well but that's T20 cricket. We knew a couple of good overs and a couple of wickets would change the momentum.

"The pitch is a bit slow, so we will have to adapt to that. But I feel happy with how I have bowled, sometimes in T20 you bowl well and don't take wickets, it happens. I'm not too fussed about that as long as I am doing my job for the team.

"It's a huge second innings for us here but I am confident if we stick to our strengths we will get there."

Mind you, a word of caution for England - all five matches at the SCG in this tournament have been won by the team batting first.

Sri Lanka will still fancy their chances with their rank of slow bowlers on a pitch on its third match. And Dawid Malan, one of England's best players of spin, went off the field injured and may not be able to bat.

Sri Lanka scored just 52 off the last eight overs. After Pathum Nissanka and the top order set such an excellent platform early in the innings, they couldn't get England away at the close, missing out the score of 160-170 that they really should have made.

England's slow bowlers stalled the Sri Lankan innings before Sam Curran and Mark Wood returned to offer some redemption for the pace bowlers.

They should have got at least 170. They had a great platform of about 100-2, but just couldn't make the most of it.

And that caps off a sorry end to Sri Lanka's innings.

New batter Maheesh Theekshana has a big swipe at Wood's final ball - he gets some toe-end on it and it flies fast and flat to Alex Hales at third man.

Since the ball got a bit older, Sri Lanka really struggled. It's hard to tell whether it's the pitch or good bowling but they have been throwing the bat at everything and not connecting.

  17. wicket

Hasaranga run out Wood (SL 141-7)

    He's gone!

Hasaranga tries to run a quick single. The ball goes back to Wood, who's a fair way from the stumps - he dives and catches the Sri Lankan batter some way short of his ground.

  20. wicket

    Rajapaksa goes!

Absolutely dolly for Sam Curran at mid-on, Rajapaksa doesn't get hold of the short ball and it spoons up for an easy catch.
