A very professional performance by Southern Brave. The use of the slower ball at the death was very good, whereas the Oval Invincibles bowled too full and gave a lot of runs away late on.

And when you are chasing a big total you need one of your openers to get 40/50 to give yourself a chance but Invincibles kept losing wickets regularly.

So a very good day for Southern Brave. They played the better cricket on the day and won it pretty comfortably in the end.

Match Hero Georgia Adams on Sky Sports: "My bowling has come a long way in the last few years - it was a bit of an accident that I started bowling really. I have done it more in regional cricket in the last few years. it went pretty well today, the pitch suited spin. We were really clear about what we wanted to do, bowling straight and at the stumps.

"I didn't expect to be bowling at key moments in the game so to take two wickets like that was a great feeling. The ball I bowled at Lauren Winfield-Hill was one of the best balls I've ever bowled."

  4. 'It could not have gone any better'published at 17:21 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

London Spirit captain Eoin Morgan speaking on BBC Two: "I am over the moon, it could not have gone any better. The recruitment went really well, we have gelled well and found a formula. On a tough wicket, the guys made it look very easy.

"The striking was as good as any in the tournament so far given how the Superchargers batted. Rossington set the tone and was unbelievable.

"With a tournament that is in its infancy, you need to think on your feet. It is important to get the guys playing to their strengths rather than questioning what they do."

Southern Brave have played really well. They started brilliantly with the bat, lost a few wickets in the middle but finished it really well.

With the ball they bowled to their plan, the captaincy was very, very good, getting the right bowlers on at the right times. And when you pick up wickets at regular intervals in the short formats it is very hard for a team to come back from that.

So for the Oval Invincibles it has been a tough day.

Terrific stuff from Tahlia McGrath. She is women's cricket's version of Chris Jordan. Excellent death bowling.

The Southern Brave hold their nerve.

Job done from the Brave. Tahlia McGrath bowls the last five balls, nothing fancy needed. Just full and straight from the Aussie and that is more than good enough to clinch the win.

Oval Invincibles finish on 141-7, falling 12 runs short despite a last-ball six from Eva Gray.

It's been a very accomplished performance from Southern Brave. On this form, last year's runners up will be in the hunt for the trophy again this time around.

  8. Southern Brave women on brink of victorypublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

Five balls to go and it is surely all over bar the shouting at The Oval.

Oval Invincibles need 22 to win and the way the Brave have bowled, that is not going to happen.

Lauren Bell's last set costs just five runs, very good from the England seamer.

  9. 'We are pretty down'published at 17:15 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

Northern Superchargers captain Faf du Plessis on BBC Two: "It felt like a bit of a storm there upfront. Adam Rossington really took the game on and broke our backs. I felt like we were probably 10 or 15 short because of the two early wickets that we lost but we put on a decent total.

"There is almost a pattern having here. I thought the pitch would be a little slower today with it being a day game but it almost seemed like there was a little bit of moisture in the pitch and that made it a little tricky in the first few overs.

"You just have to hope that someone like Adam Rossington just hits it straight up in the air when they are playing like that. I tried to change plans and our bowlers.

"We are pretty down after this. I thought bringing the two English boys back today [David Willey and Harry Brook] made our team look really strong but from a bowling perspective we weren't where we'd like to be. It is about trying to learn and improve and definitely use the home games to your advantage."

London Spirit's Adam Rossington on BBC Two: "It was just a case of trying to make use of the powerplay. I got away with one early but after that it was clean hitting.

"Eoin [Morgan] has backed us to trust our skills and be positive. Stamp your mark on the game and always take the positive option.

"On this wicket, where it looked to stop a bit in the powerplay it was a case of going as hard as possible and get ahead of the rate."

  13. Invincibles women need 33 to win from 15 ballspublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

Ryana MacDonald-Gay keeps the Invincibles in the contest with two sixes off Amanda-Jane Wellington, both thumped down the ground with ease!

Southern Brave should still get over the line but it could be slightly closer than it looked like being a few minutes ago.

Invincibles 121-7, need another 33 runs from 15 balls.

Another set, another wicket for Southern Brave. It's a second for Danni Wyatt as Aylish Cranstone, the last recognised batter, moves across her stumps and is hit plumb in front trying to scoop.

Oval Invincibles are 106-7 with 20 balls to go. They need another 48 to win and that feels a long way off. This one could be over in a hurry.

Eoin Morgan is just pure class.

He says it was "really important we said nothing" in the interval because of the difficult nature of the pitch and not wanting to stop their naturally attacking batters.

The way he thinks about the game is just fantastic.

  17. 'We played fearlessly'published at 17:03 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

Spirit's Glenn Maxwell speaking on BBC Two: "That is how we have tried to play, a fearless, entertaining brand of cricket and Rosso [Adam Rossington] certainly played that way today.

"Hopefully I have done enough to stick around next year but I will certainly be watching the rest of the games this year."

  18. Dunkley strikes as Brave women close inpublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 14 August 2022
