Munro & Rashid take Rockets to top of the table with win over Spiritpublished at 21:43 British Summer Time 20 August 2022
Trent Rockets inflicted London Spirit's first defeat of the men's Hundred and replaced them at the top of the table with victory at Trent Bridge.
On his return to the Rockets after international duty, Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan took an excellent 3-25 as Spirit were bowled out for a below-par 122.
Seamer Luke Wood also impressed again, taking 2-23, while Samit Patel and Sam Cook took two wickets each.
In reply, Dawid Malan was run out from the first ball of Rockets' innings and Alex Hales followed for six but number three Colin Munro smashed 67 not out from 37 balls to ensure victory by six wickets and with 21 balls to spare.
London Spirit put in a valiant effort in the field but the chase was ultimately straightforward for the Rockets, despite their destructive opening partnership of Malan and Hales unable to contribute.
Here's what else happened:
- Spirit started well with the bat, with Daniel Bell-Drummond and Ben McDermott taking the score onto 42 from 28 balls.
- Former England white-ball captain Eoin Morgan smashed two sixes in his 27 before being dismissed by Samit Patel.
- Munro and Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who made 41, added 85 for the Rockets' third wicket to break the back of the run chase.
What's next?
