  1. Munro & Rashid take Rockets to top of the table with win over Spiritpublished at 21:43 British Summer Time 20 August 2022

Trent Rockets inflicted London Spirit's first defeat of the men's Hundred and replaced them at the top of the table with victory at Trent Bridge.

On his return to the Rockets after international duty, Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan took an excellent 3-25 as Spirit were bowled out for a below-par 122.

Seamer Luke Wood also impressed again, taking 2-23, while Samit Patel and Sam Cook took two wickets each.

In reply, Dawid Malan was run out from the first ball of Rockets' innings and Alex Hales followed for six but number three Colin Munro smashed 67 not out from 37 balls to ensure victory by six wickets and with 21 balls to spare.

London Spirit put in a valiant effort in the field but the chase was ultimately straightforward for the Rockets, despite their destructive opening partnership of Malan and Hales unable to contribute.

    Here's what else happened:

    • Spirit started well with the bat, with Daniel Bell-Drummond and Ben McDermott taking the score onto 42 from 28 balls.
    • Former England white-ball captain Eoin Morgan smashed two sixes in his 27 before being dismissed by Samit Patel.
    • Munro and Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who made 41, added 85 for the Rockets' third wicket to break the back of the run chase.

    What's next?

London Spirit are back in action on Wednesday 24 August against at Lord’s, while Trent Rockets are on the road away to Southern Brave on Thursday 25 August.

Match hero Colin Munro talking on Sky Sports: "It wasn't easy. They changed it up at times and it was a bit sticky in the wicket so we just tried to take things deep and a couple of times the boys had the luck and we had a swing and it came off.

"It's the great thing about our team that we don't just rely on a couple of players. Rashid comes in and bowls well after that tough first game he had and everyone just put their hand up tonight.

"I think Woody [Luke Wood] has gone to another level. I've faced him a couple of times when I was batting at Worcester and I thought there was a bit about him then and seeing him now with the new ball he's just got the freedom to bowl fast and he's on form.

"If you look at our team it's pretty much Dad's Army. We've got spin and seam and some really good young talent. Andy's [coach Andy flower] great he just goes out there and makes the decisions and makes sure we're clear about our process and if we do things right then the outcome takes care of itself.

"I love batting here even when I'm the opposition and it's lovely to field out on the boundary and have the crowd on my side."

    Nope. He's out.

Cleaned up by Dan Lawrence and Rockets are going to have to wait a little longer for the win.

I was mistaken. Moores and Munro just happy to tick over the singles off Kieron Pollard.

No need to take any risks when the game's in hand.

It's been clinical from Munro. He's put the ball away and hit some phenomenal boundaries.

Which means these last nine runs could be scored pretty quickly.

I've lost count of how many sixes Colin Munro has hit tonight, but there's another.

Chris Wood bowls too short and Munro has absolutely nailed it!

Is there a twist? (Probably not.)

Tom Kohler-Cadmore attempts one six too many and picks out Nathan Ellis, who takes a simple catch. He's frustrated with himself, probably because he wanted to be there at the end, but he's done a great job of getting his side to this winning position.

Jordan Thompson must be really wishing his side had scored more runs for him to defend. He's bowled beautifully, going for just eight runs from 10 balls so far.

But Rockets are strolling to victory.
