Tom Banton's tough tournament continues. He is a quality young talent but unfortunately it hasn't happened again.

He has advanced down the track and looked to play it in the on-side. But Sam Cook is on the money. That was plumb in front.

Banton lbw Cook 8 (Fire 11-1)

The theory was right from Tom Banton. After backing away he was expecting a straight one from Sam Cook so moved across his stumps to hit it.

The only problem was he missed it. It strikes him on the pad and he's out lbw. No doubts about that one.

  3. Fire 11-0published at 92 balls left

    Back-to-back boundaries for Tom Banton.

Offered the merest hint of width by Sam Cook on both occasions and Banton backs away and throws bat at the ball. Two fours.

  4. Fire 3-0published at 95 balls left

Luke Wood has a tache and goatee combo that makes him look like an extra from D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers.

He is right on the money for Trent Rockets as Tom Banton and Joe Clarke manage three runs off the first set.

Sam Cook up next for the Rockets.

The Welsh Fire haven't scored the runs they want to this year. Their big players need to step up and get off to good start. You have to when you are chasing a big total to set the tone.

David Miller also needs to come to the party, he is a world-class performer as he has shown on many occasions. He could be the difference tonight.

    Welsh Fire have scored 114, 139, 129, 102, 126, 119 and 107 this year. 173 is the target set.

Joe Clarke and Tom Banton will open the batting for the Fire.

Left-arm quick Luke Wood, who bowls rockets, will open for Trent Rockets.

Trent Rockets opener Alex Hales to Sky Sports: "It wasn't my prettiest innings. I felt quite scratchy and they bowled well at me I thought.

"I got two low scores in the previous two games and obviously that is the bats fault, and nothing to do with me whatsoever, so I thought I'd change it up a little bit today but maybe go back to the old one if we get to the final.

"It is a really good score, as long as bowl well and execute our plans. The pitch was a little bit on the slow side so the guys had done really well to get a good score on the board. We'll just have to keep changing it up and being unpredictable and banging it into he pitch with our change-ups."

Dawid Malan got to his fifty in slightly fortunate way, mind.

  9. Postpublished at 20:31 British Summer Time 29 August 2022

Thanks, Tom. A lovely knock by Dawid Malan - nobody has more runs than him in the men's Hundred this year. 358 runs in eight games. Not bad at all.

A big ask for Welsh Fire - will their final game end in a blaze of glory? Or are we in for another damp squib?

So Welsh Fire need a hefty 173 from their 100 balls if they are to get their first (and only) win of this year's Hundred.

Having seen plenty of both sides this tournament I think that is a tall order but you never know.

Here's Timothy Abraham to guide you through their chase.

It's going to take some chasing from this Welsh Fire line-up. Dawid Malan did it again and Daniel Sams came in and gave it the flourish. We've seen the wicket spin and slow down but with the calibre of batting from the Rockets, they posted a huge total.

The fans here at Trent Bridge applaud a fantastic effort. That's as impressive a performance we've seen in some time.

  13. Rockets 172-4published at 100 balls

Lewis Gregory is the new batter with two balls to go.

Jake ball bowls a wide then gets away with another leg-sideish one next ball, the umpire judging Gregory had moved enough across his stumps.

Gregory then top-edges the final delivery of the innings up in the air but it lands safe just wide of long-on and Rockets can run two.

A hugely impressive innings from the Rockets comes to an end. They post 172-4 from their 100 balls.

Redemption for David Miller out at deep extra cover. Daniel Sams' incredibly entertaining cameo comes to an end. You have to give credit to Jake Ball for holding his nerve.

David Miller makes amends with a catch!

Jake Ball gets rewards for some fine bowling in this final set as Daniel Sams slices the ball straight to Miller on the cover boundary.

  16. Rockets 167-3published at 95 balls

Oh dear. Another Fire nightmare in the field as David Miller doesn't account for the spin on the ball as it lands in the outfield and it disappears through his legs.

Fortunately he claws the ball back from the boundary and Rockets only run two.

We've seen this from him in international as well as franchise cricket. Great hitting from Colin Munro.

The modern-day batter shows us the brutal force and a bit of skill, touch and finesse as well.

  18. Rockets 164-3published at 93 balls

You have to feel for David Payne there. Colin Munro has edged two deliveries that have both flown away fine for four runs.

Into the stands and a catch in the crowd! Well done that man!

Colin Munro has launched David Payne through the on-side for yet another six.
