Pressure eased.

A maiden from Tumi Sekhukhune as South Africa just start to apply a little pressure.
She's bowled really nicely here, three of her five overs being maidens.

It seems like since the lights came on, something more is happening out there. It's caused false shots from Emma Lamb that we didn't see earlier on today and it's giving the South African bowlers and fielders a bit more energy.

In her last Test match, just a small matter of 158 not out against Australia for Heather Knight...
Knight solidly defends her first ball to complete the successful over.
Replays show the ball was umpire's call, just clipping leg stump, so a review wouldn't have helped Tammy Beaumont.

That was completely against the run of play. Bosch getting a bit of outswing with that arm but could have gone down the legside. But after a chat with Emma Lamb, Tammy decided not to review.
As a batter you usually have a feel of where you are and if it's close. Tammy must have thought it was close and with it given out on the field, it would have needed to miss completely to be overturned.
Beaumont lbw b Bosch 28 (Eng 65-1)
And she departs next ball!
South Africa finally have their first wicket and have broken an impressive opening partnership that just looked like it was starting to run way from them.
A very full delivery from Anneke Bosch strikes Beaumont on the pad as she tries to whip it through the leg side. She thinks of a review but opts against it, and that brings England captain Heather Knight to the crease.
The bowling side will be very relieved.
Oh, lovely.
Tammy Beaumont with a contender for shot of the day with a stunning drive down the ground for four. She stands and admires it, barely moving, and rightly so.

Jafta is again scrabbling around on her knees which again suggests she and the slips are too deep. We've been saying it the whole morning.

Tammy sent me a photo during the week of a rather black looking finger bed that had been hit. It would explain why she might be in a bit of pain after copping one on the hand.
From nowhere, Sekhukhune gets one to rear up off a length and strike Tammy Beaumont on the hand. She lets go off the bat and shakes her hand, wincing.
Nasty one, and the first time we've seen the ball misbehave in any way.

I certainly knew my time was up in international cricket and I am very content with that decision.

I've got a confession, Anya. I interviewed you two days before the World Cup Final and my last question to you was: "How will you feel just before the final starts and those emotions?"
Myself and Henry Moeran were watching and both said: "Did Anya's lip just go?"
It got us wondering. But that was a tell. You won't make a good poker player.
Anneke Bosch continues, bowling with a rather slingy action and at medium pace.
Emma Lamb is batting considerably far out of her crease and crunches the last ball of the over past point for four more. She looks extremely confident and I can't seem to remember her playing a false shot at all.

It's a grey old day in Taunton but it's not dimmed the enthusiasm of the school children in the ground today.
Issy Wong is down there and the school children have caused a real crush trying to get a signature from her and Alice Davidson-Richards.

You've got to take your hat off to Kapp for how she batted and managed the innings yesterday. To get them up to 280 was brilliant and probably more than England would have liked. But this South African attack is really inexperienced and to have England going along like this then maybe 280 isn't enough after all. Without the experience of Ismail and also Khaka in there, they are struggling.
Tumi Sekhukhune resumes proceedings after drinks and starts with a maiden. That was a tough opening hour for South Africa, with batting looking relatively easy.
Captain Sune Luus claps and cheers her bowler from slip, trying to encourage a wicket out of somewhere.
