  1. England need 219 to winpublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

An innings in three parts, really. England started very well, took early wickets and put South Africa under real pressure.

The tourists came back well through Chloe Tryon and Nadine de Klerk but just as it seemed they might be able to take their side up to a competitive total, the former holed out.

From there, South Africa collapsed. The last five wickets falling in the space of 2.3 overs as they were bowled out for 218 in the 48th.

England will certainly be the happier of the two sides, certainly having lost the toss and on a good wicket.

de Klerk c Ecclestone b Sciver 38 (SA 218 all out)

That does it, a good catch from Ecclestone and Sciver has her fourth.

It's a firm hit from Nadine de Klerk but she just couldn't get the elevation and Ecclestone, moving to her right, takes the catch above her head.

After recovering from 108-5, South Africa have collapsed again to lose their last five wickets for 13 runs.

Tumi Sekhukhune's dive was deeply in vein.

I would say she is about five yards short and out when she starts the dive.

  5. wicket

Sekhukhune run out (Dunkley) 1 (SA 218-9)

Run out by a long, long way - Sekhukhune isn't even in the frame.

de Klerk hammered the ball out to deep mid-wicket, Cross went in for the catch but the ball dropped just short. It was half-stopped though and, with Cross down and seemingly in pain, Dunkley gets the throw in.

It's perfectly over the stumps and Sciver breaks the stumps with Sekhukhune nowhere to be seen.

  6. SA 213-8published at 47 overs

Tumi Sekhukhune is the new batter. She batted stubbornly to really frustrate England in the Test match and is off the mark with a thick outside edge to third.

de Klerk then ramps Brunt and a misfield from Ecclestone allows her to get back for two. The last recognised batter then pushes a single from the last to keep strike.

That is straight through the rather feeble defence!

This is why Nadine de Klerk really needs to farm the strike.

  8. wicket

    Khaka b Brunt 0 (SA 209-8)

Comprehensively bowled! Full, straight and although it would have missed leg, Khaka's feet are rooted to the crease and the ball ricochets off her pads and into the stumps.

The momentum has just swung with that double-wicket over.

You would think that De Klerk is going to have to do some farming of the strike here.

The problem for South Africa here is that they need to make sure that Nadine de Klerk faces pretty much all the balls in the final four overs.

  11. SA 208-7published at 46 overs

Nat Sciver has really reasserted England into a position of strength. Tryon is gone, Chetty soon followed and with just four overs remaining, South Africa have a lot of work to do.

It is a fantastic catch. She dropped a couple, uncharacteristically, in the Test match.

That will do her confidence a lot of good.

  13. wicket

    Chetty c Jones b Sciver 1 (SA 208-7)

Excellent review and a superb catch!

Jones was certain and UltraEdge gives his justification, a clear spike as the ball passes the under-edge and it is very well taken by the England 'keeper, stood up to the stumps.

Amy Jones is pretty convinced. She's holding the ball out as if to say "come on".

  15. England reviewpublished at 45.5 overs

Big appeal, especially from Amy Jones behind the stumps, as Trisha Chetty swings at Nat Sciver. Given not out but Jones convinces Knight to review.

Chloe Tryon has really put her side in a position where they can kick on in the last five overs. You really wonder what position they'd be in without her innings.

That could be a big moment in the game.

It is a good catch because Kate Cross could easily have misjudged it and overran it.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 45.1 overs

    Tryon c Cross b Sciver 88 (SA 205-6)

    Huge wicket for England!

Sciver bangs it in short, Tryon takes it on but this time she doesn't get the desired connection. The ball goes high into the leg-side and Kate Cross gets underneath it at deep mid-wicket.

A straightforward catch but never as easy as they look when the pressure is on.

  19. SA 205-5published at 45 overs

Ecclestone v Tryon has been a great battle and after the England spinner keeps the South Africa batter tied down early in the over, Tryon breaks free to pump the ball over wide long-on for four.

A single follows but that is it from the over. Ecclestone finishes with figures of 1-30 from her 10.
