The moment the ball struck Mandhana, Shafali Verma just closed her eyes. I think she knew it was out but that also looked very painful so maybe it was a wince too.

Mandhana lbw b Smith 24 (India 30-1)
They have it!
Impact is umpire's call but that's enough. Smith is mobbed by her teammates and one of India's stars is heading back to the pavilion.
Smith traps Mandhana lbw for 23
And do they have their prize?!
Mandhana goes for a big sweep heave from the final ball of the over. It hits her on her kneeling thigh - the umpire's finger goes up but Mandhana appeals immediately.
That always looked like it was sliding down. You can see why they tempted into it though - dismissing Mandhana would be a mighty prize.
A mighty holler from new bowler Bryony Smith as she clouts Mandhana on the pads. A shake of the head from the umpire, we go upstairs...
Mandhana 18, Verma 5
Mandhana's not giving Lauren Bell an easy ride on her debut!
She lifts her to ropes from her opening ball - a similar position to her boundary from Bell's previous over. A few balls later Bell drops shot and is pulled for four more, before Verma again sends her over her head for a third boundary of the over.

The understanding is growing between these two with the running between the wickets now that Shafali Verma has become a more permanent position at the top of the order. It's vital in this format.

There's a lot of reliance on the top three in this batting order. They are going to be essential here for India and they need to make the most of this England bowling line-up who are quite inexperienced.
If these two batters are clever about this, they will take advantage of that and capitalise this evening.
Mandhana punches the ball through the covers off Freya Davies, evading the hands of Alice Capsey. The ball stalls in the wet outfield and Sophia Dunkley is able to cut off the four.
I think in the air will be the way to go for boundaries tonight, that turf looks sluggish...
India find the fielders for the remainder of the Davies over, and slip through for a few runs.

She's one of the most aesthetically pleasing players to watch in world cricket, Smriti Mandhana.
Smriti Mandhana has her eye in straight away - she lofts Bell over long-off for four.
The final ball of Bell's over keeps low - I think it's fair to say this pitch could be variable.
Lauren Bell's opening ball in international T20 cricket comes out slowly. She appeared to slip in her run-up and she stomps down on her landing area.
A sign of things to come? It's been a damp day in Durham.

We've got a really exciting mix of experience and youth in this England side today.
New captain Amy Jones gathers her team in a huddle before leading her side out onto the field.
India openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma are making their way to the middle and debutant Lauren Bell is at the top of her mark.
We're just about ready to go.
A minute's silence is observed by all.
The national anthem follows, sung alone at first but soon joined by those present here today.
The teams are making their way out onto the pitch at Chester-le-Street for the tributes to Queen Elizabeth II.
It's only a week since the final of the The Hundred with England teammates facing off each against each other in a dramatic climax to the competition.
It was Alice Capsey's Oval Invincibles that came out on top over a Southern Brave side that featured five players in this England squad and India's Smriti Mandhana.
The 18-year-old all-rounder took two wickets in three balls, before 25 off 17 balls put her side in the driving seat.
One interesting call from England - seamer Issy Wong, who has had such an impressive start to her international career, misses out.
Kate Cross is the other player carrying the drinks.

England and India have faced off a lot in recent years, most recently in the Commonwealth Games earlier this summer.
The two sides met in the semi-finals, with India emerging triumphant thanks to a 32-ball 61 from Smriti Mandhana. Both teams would go on to lose their respective medal matches, with New Zealand winning bronze against England, while India were beaten in the final by Australia.
India also toured in summer 2021, with England taking the T20 leg of the series 2-1 with a decisive final game victory at Chelmsford.
Will they meet at the Twenty20 World Cup in February? You wouldn't bet against it...
