Following individual presentations to Amy Jones and Charlie Dean, the Charlotte Edwards Cup is finally handed over to Southern Vipers captain Georgia Adams, watched by the lady whose name it carries - the side's coach.

They began the competition on 14 May with an eight-wicket win over Thunder at Hove and here they are, less than a month later, and still with a 100% record, after defeating Central Sparks by six wickets in the final.

    Deserved winners indeed.

Thanks for your company. We'll be back tomorrow for coverage of the County Championship.

It was always going to take something special to beat Southern Vipers, a side who have the winning habit.

By choosing to bat first in the final after the emotional rollercoaster of their play-off win over South East Stars, Central Sparks were hoping one or both of their Jones' - Eve or Amy - could provide a sizeable score.

Although the latter made 27, it wasn't nearly enough, especially as Issy Wong and Grace Potts weren't able to repeat their bowling performance against the Stars.

Sparks picked up the key wickets of Danni Wyatt and Maia Bouchier, but the Vipers still coasted home with plenty left in the tank.

I can see Rod Bransgrove here, the Hampshire chairman, wearing a Southern Vipers shirt. Nice to see!

An excellent, dominant display from the Vipers. That sums up their campaign, really.

    Central Sparks 109-8 v Southern Vipers 110-4

A leg-stump half-volley by Issy Wong and Ella McCaughan clips it away for four runs as Southern Vipers win by six wickets with 25 balls to spare.

Having come through the group stage with a 100% record, Vipers prove too strong for Central Sparks as they add the trophy named after their coach to their Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy 50-over wins in 2020 and 2021.

McCaughan finishes with a run-a-ball 30 not out and Charlie Dean is seven not out at the end.

    Vipers 106-4 (target 110)

Issy Wong tries a back of the hand delivery - that is a very wide leg-side wide. Charlie Dean is sent back from the next and has to dive to make her ground.

Another wide from Wong follows and she then has to field off her own bowling as Dean dabs down for a single.

    One more decent hit needed.

    The end is inevitable.

  9. Postpublished at 15 overs

    Vipers 103-4 (target 110)

This time it's Sarah Glenn who is guilty of a leg-side wide. The umpires are giving absolutely no leeway.

Ella McCaughan flicks round the corner for three runs to take the total past 100 and a single ends the over.

Glenn's final figures are 1-20 and Vipers need another seven to win.

  10. Postpublished at 14 overs

    Vipers 96-4 (target 110)

Only one run from the first deliveries of Grace Potts' third over, but a leg-side delivery then costs her two wides.

Vipers need 14 more - Ella McCaughan is 21 not out and Charlie Dean has five.

  11. 'Pretty straightforward'published at 18:25 British Summer Time 11 June 2022

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

It looks pretty straightforward, you'd think.

The Vipers have scored at a decent rate whereas in the first game it became a problem for the Sparks as it went to the last over.

  12. Postpublished at 13 overs

    Vipers 92-4 (target 110)

Leg-spinner Hannah Baker belatedly enters the attack.

She needs to be right on the spot - but not a spot half-way down the pitch as Ella McCaughan pulls down to long leg for four.

Seven overs to go - 18 runs needed.

If cakes could walk, they'd be contemplating putting on some stout brogues about now.

  13. Postpublished at 12 overs

    Vipers 84-4 (target 110)

Central Sparks have given too many free runs away and Grace Potts is again in generous mood as Southern Vipers are gifted five wides.

Ella McCaughan is 13 not out, Charlie Dean has two, and the Vipers need another 26 to win.

Two or three wickets in a rush needed now by Central Sparks - although the only way they are going to win this is to take six.

  14. Postpublished at 11 overs

    Vipers 76-4 (target 110)

Four dot balls prompts Ella McCaughan to try a reverse sweep and she makes sufficiently good contact to find the boundary.

It's the only scoring stroke of the over but it's all Vipers need - with 34 more needed from 54 balls.

  15. Postpublished at 10 overs

    Vipers 72-4 (target 110)

Charlie Dean took 2-19 with the ball during the Sparks innings and now has a job to do with the bat.

She is off the mark with a single, but there are only three runs from the over. Vipers are still favourites, though.

  16. 'Couple more wickets and panic could set in'published at 18:12 British Summer Time 11 June 2022

    Kirstie Gordon
    Lightning and England spin bowler

Could that influence the game? It could be as Maia was in, she was set.

The Sparks could create pressure here with two young batters at the crease. A couple more wickets and panic could set in.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 9.1 overs

    Bouchier b Arlott 32 (Vipers 69-4 - target 110)

    Back in the melting pot?

An error of judgement by Maia Bouchier who plays across the line to a full-length delivery from Emily Arlott and is cleaned up.

That will give Central Sparks an extra bit of belief.

  18. Postpublished at 9 overs

    Vipers 69-3 (target 110)

A tidy over from Sarah Glenn. Only three added to the total from it, but at this stage, that's not a problem for Southern Vipers.

Wonder what Charlotte Edwards is making of this? Will the Vipers coach see her team lift the trophy with her name on it a bit later on.

  19. Postpublished at 8 overs

    Vipers 66-3 (target 110)

Vipers are rotating the strike well and when Emily Arlott drops short, Ella McCaughan uppercuts to third man for four.

Maia Bouchier takes a single from the final ball - she is 30 not out, and she has the highest score of the match, beating Amy Jones' 27 for Central Sparks.

  20. 'Bouchier wants to be there at end'published at 18:06 British Summer Time 11 June 2022

    Kirstie Gordon
    Lightning and England spin bowler

Maia Bouchier has really taken control of this chase and she wants to be there at the end.

Ella McCaughan has taken up the role of rotating the strike and getting Bouchier back on strike.
