Alex Hales thumps Naseem Shah's fourth delivery through backward point for four. That will settle any nerves.

That is quite a statement from Phil Salt first up.

  3. Eng 10-0published at 0.3 overs

    Just the start England wanted!

Phil Salt caresses one through the off side off Naseem Shah's first ball to the boundary for four. His next is a single before Shah spears one down leg side for five wides.

Alex Hales is going to be playing for England for the first time since 10 March 2019.

He has been exiled because of off-field issues, and, in February 2020, then-England captain Eoin Morgan saying "there was a breakdown in trust between Alex and the team" and "a considerable amount of time" was needed to regain that trust.

He's scored a mountain of runs in England, Australia's Big Bash League and the Pakistan Super League so he's been bashing on the door.

His opportunity has come after a loss of form for Jason Roy and then the serious injury to Jonny Bairstow.

All eyes on England openers Phil Salt and, perhaps more so, Alex Hales now. They are at the crease ready to begin England's response.

A memorable debut for Luke Wood.

    Thanks, Callum.

Pakistan looked on course for 200 plus after the start they had so a tremendous fightback with the ball from England's bowling attack.

Impressive stuff from Luke Wood on debut, too. Bags of confidence and pace. He looks a bowler at home in international cricket.

Pakistan do have the fire power with the ball too.

England leg-spinner Adil Rashid on Sky Sports: "It was a slightly helpful wicket. I thought he bowled exceptionally well to restrict them after the start they got. We are quite happy with that.

"We know what we're trying to do as a game plan, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. People do their homework and know what they need to bowl to certain players."

It's just a single for the last ball.

England have been absolutely outstanding and Moeen Ali's men walk off the field certainly in control.

    Breaking

Moeen Ali's side have fought back brilliantly with the ball.

Pakistan were 85-0 after 9.2 overs but end up 158-7 from their 20 overs.

A large part of the comeback was Luke Wood, with the Lancashire left-armer taking 3-24 from his four overs on debut. He gets a big old bear hug from county team-mate Richard Gleeson as a well done.

  13. wicket

    Naseem c S Curran b L Wood 0 (Pak 157-7)

    Three wickets for Luke Wood!

Naseem Shah obviously has little option but to go for the big shot at this stage, but he doesn't connect at all really and Sam Curran takes a good catch diving forward at deep square leg.

  14. Pak 157-6published at 19.3 overs

Khushdil Shah takes a single down the ground.

Iftikhar would've thought he got enough of it, but Duckett takes a clever catch.

  16. wicket

    Iftikhar c Duckett b L Wood 28 (Pak 156-6)

    Great comeback from Luke Wood.

Iftikhar Ahmed tries to clear the ropes again, but this time he's hitting against the wind, which is apparently fairly strong in Karachi today, and it ends up in the hands of Ben Duckett on the boundary.

Duckett has to settle himself and make sure his momentum doesn't take him over the ropes, but he does that well.

Moeen Ali has used his bowlers outstandingly. He's been very smart and the bowlers look very clear on their plan.

  18. 6 runs

    Pak 156-5published at 19.1 overs

    This will help!

Iftikhar Ahmed goes deep in his crease, stands still and slots Luke Wood back down the ground for another six.

He's playing a good hand now.

That boisterous crowd has quietened a little bit now.

  20. Pak 150-5published at 19 overs

A really good comeback from Sam Curran.

After that first-ball six he concedes just three singles from the other five balls in the over.

He finishes with 1-30 from his four overs.

Six balls to go. Can Pakistan get up to 165?
