Perhaps the throw should've gone to the bowler's end, Brook made that very hard work for himself.

Peter: Alex (16:14) on Malan.... surely a no-brainer that when Stokes and Buttler are fit (and ready) to return, two guys have to drop out.

  3. Eng 89-3published at 10 overs

Steady on, lads! Ben Duckett clips the ball to the leg-side boundary and calls for what looks like a risky second run - but a full stretch dive means he gets back in time.

Guess you can call that good running in the end.

Another single off the next ball means England reach 89-3 at the halfway stage.

  4. Eng 84-3published at 9 overs

Harry Brook is the new batter to join Ben Duckett in the middle. Will that wicket stall England's momentum?

That was really low down and Nawaz did well to hold on to it. Jacks shakes his head as he walks off. He's made an excellent debut.

Will Jacks goes! He has hit some brilliant shots this innings but doesn't quite time this one and Mohammad Nawaz takes a smart catch low down on the mid-wicket boundary.

Alex Whittingham: With Malan failing to make a significant contribution again (whilst taking a good chunk of deliveries) and others grabbing their opportunity, is his place in doubt with Buttler, Livingstone and Stokes to come back into the team?

  8. Eng 77-2published at 8 overs

England are not letting the run rate drop despite losing those two wickets, helped by what looks like a very quick outfield.

No boundaries this time though, six singles from from Mohammad Nawaz's second over.

  9. Eng 71-2published at 7 overs

New batter Ben Duckett faces an almost identical delivery that dismissed Malan for his first ball, but manages to keep the ball low and it finds the gap in the onside for four.

Duckett, who likes a sweep, does so with the final ball of the over and the ball disappears away fine for another boundary.

Malan is furious with himself and he has to go!

  11. wicket

Malan c Haider Ali b Usman Qadir 14 (Eng 61-2)

Oh dear. Dawid Malan has not looked comfortable all innings and is now dismissed attempting to heave a rank long hop from Usman Qadir into the stands - but only finds the hands of Haider Ali.

There's a sign of the power that Jacks has!

  13. Eng 57-1published at 6 overs

    Woof, what a shot.

Will Jacks gives himself some room outside off stump and clatters the ball over extra cover for four to bring up England's 50.

Oooh, Jacks gets away with it next ball though as he mis-times a cut and the ball just lands safe from two converging Pakistan fielders and rolls away for another boundary.

Still, England reach 57-1 and will likely be very satisfied with their efforts in the powerplay.

  14. Eng 45-1published at 5.1 overs

Hello! Shahnawaz Dahani gets a bit of life out of the pitch by banging it in short and beating Dawid Malan's attempted pull shot. That really did race through.

Dahani gives Malan a glare for good measure.

What a debut for Jacks so far! Definitely one of the more exciting players in the England circuit.

Toby: Once upon a time I helped Will Jacks write his school history coursework on the unification of Germany. I like to think that in a way I contributed to his stunning rise in cricket by allowing him to focus on his sporting endeavours!

  17. Eng 45-1published at 5 overs

Will Jacks is looking at home in international cricket already!

He smacks Haris Rauf straight down the ground for four, before helping the ball past mid-wicket for another boundary the next delivery.

Jacks has raced on to 27 from 14 balls.

  18. Eng 36-1published at 4 overs

Oof. There's no doubt about that one. Will Jacks smashes the ball over mid-off for a one-bounce four.

    Lovely shot.

  19. Eng 32-1published at 3.5 overs

Another edge - this time from Will Jacks. But there is no slip and the ball goes away for four.

Shahnawaz Dahani has a rueful smile on his face.

  20. Eng 25-1published at 3.1 overs

If you're going to flash, flash hard. Dawid Malan's eyes light up as he seizes on a wide delivery from new bowler Shahnawaz Dahani. It finds the edge but the ball fizzes way over slip for four.
