I think Crawley might be struggling here. He has a sheepish look on his face.

I think Crawley might be struggling here. He has a sheepish look on his face.
But have Pakistan got the Bromley Bradman caught down the leg side?
They sure think so.
Zak Crawley waves his bat as a single takes him to a 47-ball fifty.
Pakistan must think he's the new Bradman.
Crawley 48, Root 25
Leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood, who conceded more than 200 in his first effort in Test cricket, is on for the first time today and only concedes a single. He deserves a sticker for that, like one I used to get at the dentist.

Geoffrey BOYCOTT - steadfastly refusing to adopt any batting style, other than 'defensive'.

Once you're in on this wicket it's so hard for the bowlers to get you out.
Pakistan have said they will try and chase whatever England put out there, so they aren't interested in a draw either.

I hope the England fan with the trumpet has plenty of energy - and lung capacity.
"Four more, to the Eng-er-land four more," they sing as Crawley hammers another through the covers. Root adds another four to end the over.
I wonder if Andrew is still as grumpy in Preston.
Andy Zaltzman
Cricket statistician on Test Match Special
Crawley is averaging 160 against Pakistan. His average against all the other sides is 20.

Joe Root! He gets out his new favourite shot to reverse-scoop Naseem Shah over the slips.
Shall we name it The Roop?

Patrick Brennan: I presume Joe R-oot has been dismissed in Scotland during his career?
On the charge! Back-to-back boundaries from Zak Crawley. Neither were great deliveries in fairness. Crawley is into the 40s already.
Crawley 33, Root 15
I dreamt I was nearly eaten by a whale last night. I wonder what that means.
Zak Crawley hits an extravagant whip through mid-wicket off Mohammad Ali with his back foot in the air. Lovely shot.

England were without Liam Livingstone because of injury in their bowling innings and Pakistan are similarly hampered here because Haris Rauf is off the field. Naseem Shah will likely be the biggest threat. Joe Root makes him look pedestrian, though, by guiding him down through gully for four.

Jonny Barton: Graham Gooch famously got his first two Test scores in his surname.
Crawley 25, Root 7
Seamer Mohammad Ali begins the session with the ball. No achievements in his name, I don't think.
Naseem Shah slide tackles the ball on the boundary rope at the end of the opening over. England's footballers may need some of that later.

We obviously have Michelle Pfeiffer and then the hard hitting middle order batsman....Run-D.M.C.
Greg from Somerset
Keep them coming.
The players are back with the afternoon session about to begin. This game suddenly looks alive.
England are effectively 124-2 and are going to come out on the attack again.

Paul DOWN TON must have downed a few catches and scored a century?
Rob BSE
