Former England captain Michael Atherton on Sky Sports: "Stokes has transformed and galvanised that outfit. It is the measure of leadership. He is going to be a very significant England captain - one of our greatest ever by the time he finishes

"I can't remember or think of, certainly for England but I am trying to think worldwide, who had such a dramatic impact when taking over.

"After the Ashes England were terrible, then beaten in Caribbean but suddenly this whole team is transformed and galvanised."

Pakistan will be really disappointed. This new style of cricket is working for England. I mean, they will eventually lose a game but the reason it is working is because no one has seen it before.

Their ability to take 10 wickets time and time again is quite outstanding. They thoroughly deserved that win.

Jack Leach has bowled really well throughout the tour but he didn't bowl very well yesterday. Joe Root has done quite well but when the seamers are doing so well, it's hard to compare. What England need is a consistent spinner, maybe they can play Rehan Ahmed.

  7. Brook is 'phenomenal' - Stokespublished at 09:33 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2022

Harry Brook and Ben StokesImage source, Getty Images

Ben Stokes, speaking to Sky Sports about Harry Brook: "Just phenomenal. He is one of those rare players, you look across all formats and see him being successful everywhere.

"It is a massive shout but Virat Kohli is one of those guys. He is technically so simple it works everywhere.

"The pressure he puts back on the opposition is exactly what we are about. We are lucky with way we could replace Jonny. They bring so much to the team.

"Harry playing the way he has done with Jonny not being in the team is what you want. You want those headaches every week. It feels like we have all bases covered so it is good."

  8. Postpublished at 09:30 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2022

More from Brook on TMS: "I was pretty disappointed with my first-innings dismissal, it was a shocking shot! I wanted to learn from that and I went out there and tried to play every ball on its merit as much as possible. Obviously, I defended a few more balls than I have done the last couple of weeks! I felt good out there and long may it continue.

"If you look at all of my hundreds in county cricket or anywhere, my celebrations are not very big. I'm not one for jumping around but we'll see."

  9. 'Last two weeks have been phenomenal'published at 09:28 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2022

More from Harry Brook on the Pope catch to get Shakeel, speaking to TMS: "I was at short leg so had a good view of it. I'm surprised they looked at it for that long because it looked like it went in very clean to me. I had no concerns at all."

On how he sees his career going: "I don't like to look too far ahead, I like to stay in the moment then look to the next game. All I'm focusing on now is enjoying this win and then concentrating on next week.

"Last week was phenomenal, this week just as good. Obviously the wickets here are good to bat on, it's hard to get your wickets. The seamers, given there is nothing to assist them, have been unbelievable. The spinners to go with them as well.

"We say we always want to be aggressive and always look to take wickets. They've done that so well, it's ridiculous."

  10. 'I always thought we'd win'published at 09:25 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2022

England batter Harry Brook, speaking on BBC Test Match Special: "Definitely nervous at the end! I think we probably didn't bat as well as we wanted to in the first innings but we learnt from that in the second and put out a good total to defend.

"They batted well but probably didn't score quickly enough, in my opinion. If they'd had a few more singles and twos in there then they might have been a bit closer to the total.

"We bowled exceptionally, we hit our straps and the seamers were outstanding, Woody especially."

On the target set for Pakistan: "I believed that [Pakistan wouldn't get close] but you'll have to ask a few others. I thought we were always going to win that game. It got close at the end but when we got that wicket of Nawaz and quickly got Saud, I thought it was game over there.

"Obviously they kept on coming hard but I felt confident."

My analysis of this second Test is that a more orthodox approach would likely have produced a result in regulation five days. But that an England win would not have been as likely. Stokes said in the summer that this new approach changes the mindset of the opposition and the stunning nature of the first Test affected the Pakistanis here. And while this Test wasn’t the slash and dash of the first one, without it England lose this one. Utterly phenomenal.

Ollie Robinson has been amazingly good given he's hasn't played much in the subcontinent. He manages to get a glimmer of movement and if he's not getting that, he's giving nothing away with that lovely metronomic action he's got.

  13. 'Wherever we go we want people to enjoy the cricket we are playing'published at 09:17 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2022

Pakistan fans in MultanImage source, Getty Images

More from England captain Ben Stokes, speaking to Sky Sports: "I knew how much enjoyment the public would get out of seeing England playing Pakistan in Tests in Pakistan but I don't feel we are playing away.

"The crowd just want to see good cricket. Even though we have won the first two games we walk off to people enjoying what they have watched. That's what we want to do. Wherever we go in the world we want people to enjoy the cricket we are playing. The more we can do that, the more Test cricket stops getting talked about like losing form of cricket... Days like this and last week are what you live for. You feel very honoured to be part of that.

"All we can do try and create something people want to be part of in the long format. A huge part is the culture and style we want to play and taking the pressure off people.

"This game comes with enough pressure. A lot of people would love to be part of this dressing room. It is great when winning but take that away we are just here having a good time with a group of mates."

  14. 'We know what we have achieved this week'published at 09:14 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2022

England captain Ben Stokes, speaking to Sky Sports: "Incredible to have finished the Test and be 2-0 up in the series. Huge credit again to the effort put in this week and carrying on a way that has been successful in the last six-seven months. It was a challenge with the wicket but the way the batters applied themselves was fantastic. We kept the scoreboard ticking even though wickets were falling.

"Coming to the subcontinent is always a tough place. We know what we have achieved this week. We know it is not unheard of but very rare to do. We will take it all in. These series victories and wins are part of a much bigger picture of what we are trying to achieve."

  18. 'Monumental day'published at 09:04 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2022

Mark Wood speaking to TMS: "Monumental day. Amazing feeling. The effort that everyone's put stands out for me. It's not just one game, it's two games."

"I managed to get two wickets when Stokesy [Stokes] asked me to change the game. All game I got my bouncer a bit too off side but in that spell, I got it right."

"I feel knackered. It was a big effort and I'm proud of myself for it. Everyone feels great."

On Pope's catch to dismiss Shakeel: "The longer it went on, I thought he would give it not out. We as a team were very confident it was out. Pope was convinced it was out and we're glad it went our way, it was a crucial wicket."

On the win: "It's something we'll look back at proudly at the end of our career. It hasn't sunk in completely yet but I think we'll be very proud."

What I'm impressed by and what Stokes alluded to is the energy that England had at the end of the session. You can quibble about the odd decision but out in the field, the energy of all 11 out there is staggering.

I know it hasn't been stifling hot but their fielding throughout has been absolutely brilliant and they don't seem to buckle. There was a moment where the game was going away but you wouldn't have sensed that the way they bowled and fielded.

They just don't know when they're beaten, they never think they are going to be beaten, they're going to find a way and you never know what they way is going to be.

What will be fascinating is when it gets to Australia next summer.
