It was an ambitious shot for Ahmed's third ball. It was a good catch at mid wicket. He's played three shots in Test cricket and they've all been pretty aggressive. He'll get a pat on the back in the dressing room.
Mark Wood has been pushed up a position ahead of Ollie Robinson.

Live by the Bazball, die by the Bazball.
Rehan Ahmed's third shot in Test cricket is a big swish. He clunks it straight to mid-wicket.
It doesn't look good but it's probably what he has been told to do.

Fred Corbett: Might be controversial but I don’t think Bairstow gets into this team. He won’t replace Root, Pope or Stokes, and his batting stats after keeping are dreadful so that rules out replacing Foakes. Brook is undroppable and YJB isn’t an opener or bowler.
Foakes 49, Ahmed 1
Ahmed's first Test run comes from his first ball with a wristy flick off the inside edge.
This ball might just be reverse-swinging for Mohammad Wasim.
England are still 39 runs behind. They'd want a lead on this pitch, even if it's a small one.
Here's Rehan Ahmed, England's youngest player in men's Tests. He does have a first-class century to his name.

With this wicket the game is back in the balance with Pakistan.
Brook lbw b Wasim 111 (Eng 262-6)
Well, there is that wicket Pakistan so desperately needed. A magnificent innings ends.
Seamer Mohammad Wasim has managed to squeeze one through Harry Brook's defences and onto his pad.
Brook knows it is plumb and, despite Ben Foakes trying to persuade him otherwise, has to walk off.

Pakistan are desperate for a wicket and Babar is just waiting for an error from England.
Brook 111, Foakes 46
I think I agree with Matt but Ben Foakes is making a persuasive case to the contrary.
England were 159 runs behind Pakistan when Ben Stokes got out. It has been a crucial knock.
He's just playing himself in again after tea.

Surely the answer for Jonny B is to have him take the gloves? I feel for Ben Foakes as he’s an exceptional keeper, but if JB continues to bat the way he is and his keeping his solid - then it makes complete sense to have him take the gloves.

Someone also tweeted us earlier clarifying that they didn't see Gilbert Jessop, the scorer of England's fastest Test century, play live. That was very kind but I'm not sure it was necessary considering he retired 110 years ago.
It did make me wonder who the oldest person who reads these ramblings is.
Brook 108, Foakes 44
I think Neil's joking but we have had some tweets and texts saying Joe Root is under pressure because he hasn't taken to Bazball.
That'd be the same Joe Root who scored three hundreds in four Tests in the summer.

Neil, Oxfordshire: Clearly Bairstow replaces the out of form Joe Root at four. Root then bats eight or nine getting picked for his off-spin or opens. Sorted.
Thanks Marsh.
Harry Brook is back out in the middle, alongside Ben Foakes.
The first job will be ticking off the 50-run deficit. Then it could be carnage.
Trying to squeeze Jonny Bairstow back into this side is causing lots of debate - we will drop in some of your best replies during the evening session.
Here to guide you through to the close is Matthew Henry.

Ref Roland at 9:16 ... all good names, but how can you leave out Jonny Bairstow ... arguably the mainstay of the initial Bazball launch?!

Imagine what a player with the talent of Graeme Hick could do with the support and freedom of Bazball.
