Mark Wood is justifying his promotion up the order. He has been comfortably the heavier scorer in this stand with Ben Foakes although as I say that England's wicketkeeper times one perfectly down back past the umpire.

That brings up England's 300. It's also the last delivery before drinks.

Abrar is going to have a bad shoulder after this Test series and he didn't even play in the first match.

Abrar Ahmed's bowling in this innings: 11% full, 88% good length and 1% short. 30 overs, 5 maidens, went for 117 runs, took 2 wickets with an economy of 3.90.

Think how the Aussies must have felt in the 90s and early 2000s. Poor Martin Love.

Abrar Ahmed, Pakistan's leggie, returns to try and break this partnership. Foakes and Wood take a single each with the crowd becoming distracted by their competing chants.

It’s weird having an argument because there are too many good players to fit in the starting XI. Feels very odd.

Can't drop Foakes if he takes his chances. Would be a terrible message to give to the team. Bairstow may just have to wait for someone to lose form. Great situation to have - sign of a champion team to have great players waiting their chance.

It sounds like the England trumpeter has got all of those in the ground - both England and Pakistan supporting - clapping along to his latest tune.

It's been an intelligent, competent and well put together knock by Foakes.

England are batting really nicely. Wood had a brilliant knock in the previous game. His strike-rate will be lower but he's sticking around for England.

I see Gareth Southgate is staying. McCullum must have turned them down.

Wood decides it's time to attack the spin. He gets down on one leg twice and heaves Nauman Ali to the boundary on both occasions.

Pakistan's total is almost in touching distance now.

Leave out JB? Are you crazy? How people have short memories. Brook has done well on batter-friendly pitches, as has Pope. Against the Aussies you need experience and any technique flaws will quickly be found out. Let's not get carried away just yet.

Back to Mohammad Wasim and this reverse swinging ball.

The plan is clear - full, fast and aimed at Mark Wood's pad and stumps.

Wood is good enough to defend it in this over.

Pakistan's ground fielding today has been outstanding.

Mark Wood is much more comfortable against Nauman Ali's spin. Twice he sends fielders sprinting into the outfield to chase leather.

Veteran Azhar Ali, who will retire after this game, does excellently on the boundary edge. His sprawling stop prevents a four.

Boris: If England are going to continue to play as they do at home, Bairstow may as well open (as he does in white ball) with Crawley and keep the rest of the order as is.

Mark Wood survives but for how long with Wasim bowling like this I'm not sure.

There's something electric about a quick bowler and reverse-swing like this.

Woooft! Mohammad Wasim has turned into prime Waqar Younis.

First Mark Wood just gets his bat on a vicious yorker. A few balls later he hits Wood on the pad again.

Babar, who only has one review left, wants another look.
