Just getting to know England's newest run machine Harry Brook?

Here's a piece from earlier in the summer by my colleague Stephan Shemilt on the making of the Yorkshireman.

It tells the story of his cricket background and how his grandmother loves doing his washing.

Harry Brooks numbers against Pakistan are outstanding. In the PSL he averaged 50, just before the T20 World Cup he averaged 80 and now in Test cricket in Pakistan he's averaged 115.

Pakistan have got some work to do here. It's still anyone's game. Brook has done the job that Stokes asked of him when he got run out.

There is little threat from Salman Agha as England add five more runs to the tally to complete a highly satisfying session for the tourists.

That disastrous run out of Ben Stokes could have triggered a collapse, but Harry Brook showed superb composure to put that mix-up to one side and score a superb Test century.

Unsurprisingly Stokes is the first player to congratulate Brook as he heads up the stairs and into the England dressing room.

He and Ben Foakes have put on 109 to move England to within 50 runs of Pakistan's first innings score.

Harry Brook is just the sixth man to score three or more hundreds in his first four Tests.

The others are George Headley, Arthur Morris, Conrad Hunte and Sunil Gavaskar and Mohammad Azharuddin.

    Trail by 55 runs

Fresh from reaching three figures Harry Brook makes a bit of a mess of a reverse-sweep. The ball disappears through his legs, narrowly missing the stumps, before flying down to third man where it is clawed back just before the rope and England run three.

A touch of fortune for Brook there.

What's really impressed me there with Brook trying to get to his 100 is Abrar has been trying to pitch the ball outside leg stump and as soon as he gets it slightly wrong, Brook gets on his back foot and punches him through the off side. It's clever batting.

He's played magnificently. There's a strong argument for saying that he is the best of the lot.

The run map shows Harry Brook scored 101 with 3 sixes, 8 fours, 9 twos, and 33 singles for England

Harry Brook is a very good cricket player. This is his third century in as many Tests on this tour and how England needed this one.

It is short from Abrar Ahmed and Brook pushes the ball through the covers to the boundary.

There is a huge smile on Brook's face as he raises his bat to the England balcony. But he quickly puts his helmet back on to prepare for the next ball. He knows there is a job to do.

When Brook reached 95, it's the most runs by an England player in an away series against Pakistan, that includes series in the UAE.

I’d like to see the live text commentary of Gilbert Jessop’s century, I’d imagine it was full of 1902 ramps and switch hits. Alec Stewart would be a good addition for a Bazball XI.

    Foakes 38, Brook 97

Pakistan think they have Ben Foakes caught behind sweeping down the leg-side - but umpire Joel Wilson calls a wide and Babar Azam opts against the review.

A bit of gamesmanship from Mohammad Rizwan behind the stumps there?

A single for Harry Brook moves him on to 97.

If Brook does reach 100, you can argue that it's his best hundred so far because of the circumstances.

More nifty footwork from Harry Brook as he nudges the ball wide of mid-on for two.

A single moves him to 96 - a third Test century is edging ever closer.

Harry Brook dances down the track again and lofts the ball over mid-on, but the ball bounces just short of the rope and is clawed back by the fielder and England run two. Brook into the 90s.

A single brings Ben Foakes on strike and Nauman Ali gets one to spit up out of the rough. Foakes just about manages to fend it away off a leading edge and it lands safely.
