Politicalfiend: Watching how Tim Southee batted here, I reckon England have one, maybe two, years of enjoying the advantage of the mindset Bazball gives them before everyone else catches up and adopts the same approach. The future is bright.

Tidy over from Leach, just two from it.

Blundell tries to get after the last delivery but drills it back along the ground and straight at Leach, who stops it without knowing too much about it.

There is definitely an argument that Ollie Robinson is one of England's best two bowlers, Ed. He does average less than 20 in Test cricket and bowled very well yesterday, but lacked a bit of luck.

Jack Leach took three wickets yesterday - and he's coming back on now...

Ed O'Toole: Can’t understand the approach from England this morning. Trying to enforce the follow-on using third and fourth-choice bowlers to keep our first choices fresh? Just bowl your best and then decide whether to enforce the follow on. Now NZ have the wind behind them.

Broad is quickly around the wicket to Henry, testing him out with some short stuff.

The Black Caps number 10 is happy to let them go through to Ben Foakes.

New Zealand need another 35 to avoid the follow-on.

Never mind, Jack. No harm done.

The very next ball after that drop, Southee gets a leading edge as he tries to whip the ball away and it dollies up to Zak Crawley at mid-wicket.

Broad does what was asked of him, the follow-on is back in play but new batter Matt Henry can hit a long ball, too...

Oh dear. That should've been the end of Tim Southee.

He tries to swing Broad away over the leg side but Jack Leach, having made up a lot of ground from fine leg, shells the catch.

No more fireworks in that over but New Zealand are getting ever close to avoiding the follow-on.

Ben Stokes has decided it is time for a change, Stuart Broad is coming into the attack.

That was Tim Southee's 82nd six in Test match cricket. He has overtaken Misbah ul-Haq and Kevin Pietersen to break into the top 10 and is now level with Matthew Hayden and Andrew Flintoff. Viv Richards has 84.

Short from Robinson, Southee on the hook. It looks top-edgy on first viewing but it sails over long leg for yet another maximum!

Repays show it was out of the middle. What a counter-attacking knock this has been from Southee.

There's been a flurry of shots from Tim Southee, hitting straight down the ground. Everything is disappearing many a mile off Ollie Robinson and Jack Leach. He's shown some of his team-mates intent on sweeping how to bat, by playing straight.

The ball couldn't be retrieved so we've got a new (old) one but it doesn't change anything.

Southee swings another back over Leach's head - three sixes in the over!

The New Zealand skipper goes to a 39-ball half-century with his second big six of the over!

It is high, long and handsome back over Leach's head and gets stuck on the roof! Great hitting from Tim Southee, a very valuable innings for his team.

The run map shows Tim Southee scored 53 with 4 sixes, 4 fours, 1 three, 1 two, and 8 singles for New Zealand

Saving them for the new ball when New Zealand follow-on, James?

If that was the plan then it might need to be changed quite soon otherwise, England might not have the option of enforcing the follow-on.

Gorgeous shot from Tom Blundell to end the over. Too full from Robinson and the right-hander middles the cover through the covers for four. Textbook.

Yep. Good decision from the umpire. Southee got a scratch on it and that's what saves him.

Yorker from Robinson, it nearly did the trick but England lose a review.

Robinson appeals for lbw after Southee moves across his stumps and if he's not hit this then he's in big trouble.

    Given not out.
