  1. 200 runs

    Eng 202-3published at 30 overs

Need another 97 runs to win

Moeen Ali is the new batter and he is off the mark with a quick single.

Jos Buttler is not going to let the wicket of Roy hold him back just as he is starting to get going, though, and pulls Rabada in front of square with real conviction. Four more.

The runs required are down to double digits, England can just tick them off in ones and twos. Whether that's the approach they chose to take...

    WICKETpublished at 29.1 overs

    Roy c Parnell b Rabada 113 (Eng 196-4)

The end of a fabulous knock from Jason Roy!

A short ball from Kagiso Rabada, the England opener was onto it in a flash, hit the pull shot sweetly but it went flat and Wayne Parnell was able to move around the boundary to take a smart catch.

South Africa keep doing just enough to stay in contention.

  3. Eng 196-3published at 29 overs

    Target 299

Shamsi comes back well with just two conceded from the last four deliveries but it's still 10 from the over.

Roy tried to make it more with a reverse sweep but missed and was thankful for a bit of turn to take the ball past his leg stump.

  4. Eng 194-3published at 28.2 overs

    Target 299

Here comes Jos! Back-to-back boundaries to start Shamsi's over and both absolutely rocketed to the fence.

The first is up and over extra cover, the next is muscled back down the ground. England look intent on getting after Shamsi.

  5. Eng 186-3published at 28 overs

    Target 299

Kagiso Rabada is back for South Africa and gets through a very impressive over.

Just a single from it with Rabada varying his pace superbly. Roy gets particularly upset with himself after missing a slower ball to end the over.

  6. Eng 185-3published at 27 overs

    Roy 112, Buttler 8

There was a very brief appeal for lbw the delivery before Roy clubbed that six. Shamsi was interested, Quinton de Kock told him not to waste his energy.

The wicketkeeper was right, ball-tracking shows it was missing leg stump by a couple of yards! Turned a lot, though.

  7. 6 runs

    Eng 183-3published at 26.4 overs

    Target 299

Absolutely clubbed over deep mid-wicket for six! That is some hit from Jason Roy.

Tossed up on middle stump by Shamsi and Roy dismisses it. Brutal hitting.

  8. Eng 175-3published at 26 overs

    Target 299

Magala has been superb so far and this over is no different. Just five from it and there are signs Jos Buttler is getting a touch frustrated.

He has a big old swing and a miss at a slower ball before digging out a well-executed yorker to earn a single.

Interesting move. South Africa are turning to spin with Tabraiz Shamsi returning to the attack.

Dave Blathis: YESSSSSS J-ROY!! Never doubted him. Legend.

  12. Eng 170-3published at 25 overs

    Target 299

A dot ball to finish the over, a good one for England but Jos Buttler did need a bit of luck, popping the ball up and getting it just over the cover fielder. It could so easily have gone to hand.

As for Jason Roy, there was so much emotion in that celebration. So many people had written him off after such a prolonged slump but he has shown just why England kept faith with him in this format. A superb knock and he's not done yet.

  13. 100 runs

100 for Jason Roypublished at 24.5 overs

    Eng 170-3

What a moment for Jason Roy! An 11th ODI hundred, brought up with a pull for four and the celebration tells you everything!

After so long battling to rediscover his best form, he finally looks to have found it. He's been magnificent today - a century brought up from 79 balls to put England in a commanding position.

  14. Eng 162-3published at 24 overs

    Roy 95, Buttler 3

Another tidy over from Magala but it's one that suits England as well, given the position they're in.

The score ticks over nicely. The five runs from the over is only fractionally less than the required rate.

Buttler is fine but we're being held up while they locate a new helmet that fits him!

We seem to have got there in the end. Let's go.

  16. Eng 161-3published at 23.4 overs

    Target 299

We've got a brief delay as Buttler is hit on the helmet by a good bouncer from Magala.

It was on him quicker than he expected but the England skipper is smiling and seems to be OK. He will have to change his lid, though.

  17. Eng 157-3published at 23 overs

    Target 299

Jason Roy is into the 90s with a pair of twos from a very quick over from Anrich Nortje.

The South Africa fast bowler then rushes him with a bouncer but Roy is able to adjust well enough to turn the ball leg-side for a single.

I'm happy to report that three overs into my stint, we have now completed a wicketless over.

  18. Eng 152-3published at 22 overs

    Target 299

Jos Buttler is the next man in for England and the skipper has some work to do.

He middles a punch into the covers but picks out the fielder. No run.

Just a run and the wicket from Magala's over. The seamer has 2-7 from three overs.

  19. wicket

    Brook lbw b Magala 0 (Eng 152-3)

Three quick wickets for South Africa and Harry Brook is gone for a duck on debut! Sisanda Magala has two and he's changed the game.

The Yorkshireman was a long way across, tried to turn the ball to leg and when he missed, he was in big trouble.

He started to walk off as soon as the umpire's finger was raised, Roy called him back but after a brief chat, he slopes off without reviewing. Game on!

Nothing like an England run chase to distract from morning meetings in a chilly California. Hotting up nicely.
