  1. dropped catch

    Huge chance already!

A misfield helps Gaby Lewis get off the mark with a quick single, before Orla Prendergast continues to attack Connell.

But there's no control in her latest shot which doesn't quite stick to the deep fielder sprinting in.

A harsh drop but a drop nonetheless.

Shamilia Connell continues and has Prendergast driving, catching her edge but fortunately for Ireland the ball flies over the head of West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews at slip.

Ireland are riding their luck a little.

The key for West Indies is getting Gaby Lewis on strike now and tying her down.

Orla Prendergast using her feet has put West Indies off their line a little bit.

That's much better! Prendergast walks down the pitch before driving one over the cover region for four.

    Ireland's first boundary.

  5. Ire 10-1published at 2.3 overs

Henry bowls a wide which means the free hit ticks over. Orla Prendergast smashes it high but gets no distance on her shot.

Ireland run two, it's been a slow start.

  6. Ire 5-1published at 2.1 overs

West Indies are winless in their last 15 T20 internationals. They look well on top so far though, even if Chinelle Henry releases some of the pressure by bowling a no-ball.

It has been a really difficult start for Ireland.

West Indies have had such a barren run in T20 cricket but after just two overs they look full of confidence. They are up and about and there's plenty of noise.

  8. Ire 2-1published at 2 overs

Orla Prendergast gets a single off the last ball of Shamilia Connell's over to deny the bowler a wicket-maiden.

The West Indies look full of confidence.

Felt like that was coming. The pressure tells on Amy Hunter. She tried charging down the wicket the ball before and then got a top edge and a really good catch in the end.

    Oh dear.

The pressure tells as Amy Hunter mistimes one, edging the ball high into the air and Trishan Holder takes a great catch running backwards.

Not the start Ireland would have wanted.

  11. Ire 1-0published at 1.2 overs

Shamilia Connell is into the attack. She starts with two dots.

  12. Ire 1-0published at 1 over

    Henry 1, Lewis 0

Strong start for the West Indies with just a single conceded off Henry's opening over.

Interestingly the pacers have struggled a bit in the powerplay at this World Cup. Not today though!

  13. Ire 1-0published at 0.2 overs

Big early chance as Amy Hunter edges one which only just bounces in front of Hayley Matthews at first slip.

    There's so much swing already.

West Indies are going to have the pitch up here. They didn't do that well enough against India in their last game, but that was really effective for New Zealand earlier.

  15. Ire 0-0published at 0.1 overs

Both sets of players take the knee before we start.

Chinelle Henry bowls the opening delivery, a wide one which Amy Hunter misses.

  16. Who needs what to reach semi-finalspublished at 16:59 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2023

Group 1 table at the Women's T20 World Cup (all teams played two games): Australia four points (NRR 2.834), Sri Lanka four points (NRR of 0.43), South Africa two points (NRR of 1.55), Bangladesh 0 points (NRR of -0.72), New Zealand 0 points (NRR of -4.05)Image source, BBC Sport

A quick reminder of the permutations then.

Whoever loses between West Indies and Ireland is eliminated.

Whoever wins must then earn victory by a large margin in their remaining game to improve their net run-rate - and also need one of England or India to lose both of their remaining games - to have any chance of qualifying in second place.

    Got that?

If Ireland can play like New Zealand did and put runs on the board and then bowl West Indies out you just never know. It is about putting runs on the board.

They'll be wanting to get around 150. I don't think 180 is realistic.

  19. West Indies well-beaten last time outpublished at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2023

Similarly West Indies need to win their last two games and rely on other results to go their way to reach the semi-finals.

Last time out the 2016 champions slumped to a six-wicket defeat against India who reached their target of 119 with 11 balls to spare.

Batting first, West Indies stumbled to 118-6 after Stafanie Taylor's gritty 42 from 40 balls.

But they were dealt a huge blow when Taylor was taken from the field on a stretcher with an injury, having only returned to the side during their opening encounter with England after a lengthy spell out.

  20. Ireland hoping for first World Cup winpublished at 16:54 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2023

Ireland are not mathematically eliminated, but they need to win their last two games by a large margin and hope other results go their way.

They lost to England on Monday and were comfortably beaten by Pakistan in their last match.

Chasing 166, Orla Prendergast hit an enterprising 31 from 21 balls but Ireland were all out for 95 with 21 balls to spare.

Ireland have never won a match at the Women's T20 World Cup. Will that change today?
