  2. 'We've still got a chance'published at 20:13 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

New Zealand captain Sophie Devine: "I wish this was our first game of the tournament but it's not to be and I stand here today feeling extreme pride.

"For the team, to be able to bounce back the way we did, we've given ourselves a chance. I think for Suzie Bates to start again and build such a good partnership was great, we know this wicket is tougher and the bowlers were outstanding today.

"The first game of the tournament laid the platform for the games we are seeing. Australia are are still winning which is boring. The support from the crowd means everything and they gave us a real vibe, it really adds to it."

  3. 'Gameplan did not come together'published at 20:08 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu: "It's been a tough day in the middle. I think as a bowling unit we needed wickets early. 140 would have been a good score to chase. 160 was not easy. We had to stick to our plans, play our shots.

"Overall, I think the gameplan did not come together. Some players felt the pressure, but they are young. They need some more experience. We only have a few senior players. Many of the girls are not experienced enough for this type of this game. If we take on too much pressure the game pans out like that.

"We have played some good cricket in this tournament. So today is a tough day. We learn a lot of things for the future."

  4. 'I'm loving bowling more than ever before'published at 20:02 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

New Zealand's player of the match Amelia Kerr: "I guess it was nice to have a performance and get a big win there for the team. It was nice to bat with Suzie [Bates] who is a class act.

"We've got Craig Howard our bowling coach and he's done a lot of work with us. I'm loving bowling more than ever before and that's down to him.

"Suzie and I love talking about the game. We thought it was a tough wicket and thought boundaries were hard to come by so twos were a better option.

"I've got a very supportive family back home I'm missing them back home and excited to see them when I get back too."

New Zealand will be kicking themselves because they didn't play good cricket in the first two games.

Realistically we want to see South Africa progress because they are the hosts and that means better crowds and atmosphere.

    Some permutations chat, then.

Hosts South Africa, level on points with Sri Lanka and New Zealand, will go through to the semi-finals in the runners-up spot if they beat Bangladesh courtesy of superior run-rate.

However, defeat for the Proteas against Bangladesh would allow the White Ferns to sneak through. The Kiwis be watching that one hoping for an upset.

A massively disappointing performance for Sri Lanka. They weren't on today. Are New Zealand peaking at the right time? That is going to do the world of good for New Zealand's net run-rate.

A big swing of the bat by Malsha Shehani and she misses one from Amelia Kerr which clatters into her stumps. Last batter Achini Kulasuriya has an injured shoulder. Will she come out to bat?

Some of Sri Lanka's players have wrapped themselves in towels on the boundary as there's a bit of chill in the darkness in Paarl. Lea Tahuhu is square driven for four by Inoka Ranaweera.

That was a good review from Ranaweera! I can't believe that was missing.

I think cricket is one of the only sports in the world where players and spectators want it to finish early.

That must've been agonising for the batter to just watch the ball go onto the stumps.
