  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 12.1 overs

Kumari run out (Bezuidenhout) (SL 47-8)

Bernadine Bezuidenhout has a future in bowling. Crown green, but more likely ten pin. A communication mix-up between the two Sri Lankan batter leaves Sugandika Kumari struggling to make her ground at the non-striker's end.

New Zealand wicketkeeper Bezuidenhout rolls the ball along the ground, underarm, from behind the stumps at the striker's end and hits the pins at the opposite end. Strike!

A pretty sorry-looking scorecard for Sri Lanka at the moment with Chamari Athapaththu the only player into double figures so far.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11.3 overs

    Ranasinghe b Jonas 3 (SL 45-7)

...but not for long. Fran Jonas zips it in and does Oshadi Ranasinghe for pace. The ball clatters into her middle stump.

  5. Not outpublished at 11.2 overs

It's umpire's call on the ball striking the leg stump. Review retained and Oshadi Ranasinghe survives.

  6. New Zealand reviewpublished at 11.2 overs

Fran Jonas is invited to give her left-arm twirlers a go. Her second legal delivery strikes Oshadi Ranasinghe on the boot as she attempts to reverse sweep.

Sophie Devine is talked into reviewing it by Bernadine Bezuidenhout. Original decision is not out on the field.

This makes me wonder why New Zealand were so poor in the first two games.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 10.5 overs

    Dilhari c A Kerr b Tahuhu 4 (SL 40-6)

Lea Tahuhu, who has seven wickets in the tournament before this over, with the first over after the drinks break. She now has her eighth.

Kavisha Dilhari attempts to go aerial down the ground but a leading edge gives Amelia Kerr a routine catch at a short-ish cover position. Simple as you like.

New Zealand are bowling well on this surface and it's the same pitch they were bowled out on! Dare I say it, they might do the same to Sri Lanka now.

  10. drinks break

Drinks breakpublished at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

At the halfway point Sri Lanka's cause seems a little forlorn at 38-5.

They need 125 off 60 balls. Let's hope their lower order throw the bat and give the crowd something to cheer rather than meander to a finish.

I didn't expect the gulf this big. It just shows you what happens when Chamari Athapaththu gets out early.

  12. SL 35-5published at 9.2 overs

Here's that brilliant tumbling catch from Suzie Bates form a little earlier. Amelia Kerr continues with a single either side of two dots.

This is going horribly wrong for Sri Lanka here.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 8.4 overs

    Sanjeewani b Tahuhu 1 (SL 35-5)

Five down, now as Anushka Sanjeewani drags on. Lea Tahuhu is full just outside off stump and a booming drive from Sanjeewani takes an inside edge and deflects on the stumps.

This feels done bar the shouting.

  15. SL 35-4published at 8.2 overs

Sophie Devine happy to rotate the bowlers as Lea Tahuhu's pace is given a run out. Her second ball and Kavisha Dilhari is lucky to survive a run-out attempt at the non-striker's end. She would have been gone if the throw had struck.

I just don't think it will happen for Sri Lanka, their depth is being challenged.

  17. SL 35-4published at 8.0 overs

Sri Lanka need 128 from 72 balls with six wickets left. It's looking a big ask.

New Zealand started so poorly in the tournament and they have surged here.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 7.3 overs

    Athapaththu lbw b A Kerr (SL 33-4)

Gone! Sue Redfern's on-field decision is overturned. Chamari Athapaththu played all around that. Height might have been an issue but the ball-tracking showed it was going on to hit the stumps. A great review by the Kiwis.
