  1. 50 runs

for Marcus Harrispublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Glam v Glos 100-4

Gloucestershire are wobbling a little four down but Australian Test bat Marcus Harris is glueing thing together.

Fifty for him in 113 balls with five fours.

A mighty 25 overs still scheduled in the day at Cardiff.

  2. wicket

WICKET Foakes c de Grandhomme b Wood 76published at 17:01 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Lancashire v Surrey 239-6

We have our winner for catch of the day folks!

Ben Foakes thinks he is getting four as he pulls Luke Wood through midwicket only for Colin de Grandhomme to take a brilliant diving one-handed catch with his wrong hand (his left).

A real pity for Foakes as he had batted so well. But an excellent knock, having come in at 44-3.

The England selectors will surely have it down as a big tick.

  3. wicket

    WICKET Westley c Holden b Roland-Jones 48published at 16:58 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Middx v Essex 159-3

    Badly-needed wicket for Middlesex.

Tom Westley reaches out to drive Toby Roland-Jones but chips one low to point where Max Holden takes a good catch diving forward.

Partnership broken. If was worth 121 with Dan Lawrence, who’s still there on 71.

  4. Division Two updatepublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Sussex v Durham 213-2

A much needed breakthrough for Sussex as Ben McKinney is dismissed for a rapid 35 of 39 balls.

The run rate is still going at over five, though.

  5. Postpublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Lancashire v Surrey 226-5

Surrey have added 30 runs in the seven overs since tea and are well on top at the moment.

Cameron Steel, who has moved to 39, has been a great support to Ben Foakes with this partnership now up to 62.

Plenty of work to do for Lancashire.

    Hampshire 21-2 v Nottinghamshire

    James VinceImage source, Getty Images

On BBC Radio Solent, Kevan James has just been talking about what James Vince has been up to since his last county game of last summer.

He played three ODIs for England in Australia, then it was off to Abu Dhabi for a T10 competition and the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash.

He then captained the Gulf Giants to success in the International T20 league in the UAE, he played in the Pakistan Super League and finally three ODIs in Bangladesh.

It's like Race Across the World but with a cricket bat!

Inspection in Leeds at 5.00published at 16:47 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Yorkshire 186-2 (36.2 overs) v Leicestershire

A further inspection due at Headingley.

It has at least stopped raining - but that inspection may not necessarily deliver good news.

WICKET Vasconcelos lbw b Hogan 39published at 16:42 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Kent v Northants 85-7

Northants last main hope of cobbling together something half useful is now gone.

Ricardo Vasconcelos had battled away well but is done by Michael Hogan nipping one in from round the wicket.

They’re quickly off for bad light at Canterbury but it’s all Kent.

  9. 50 runs

Half century for Wayne Madsenpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Derbyshire 162-3 v Worcestershire

Wayne Madsen re-emerges after tea to complete the 112th half-century of his 20-year first-class career - 99 of them in the Championship for Derbyshire.

Former Derbyshire skipper Madsen is on 54.

Current Derbyshire skipper Leus du Plooy is on 11.

  10. Grant Stewart takes most of the plauditspublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Northants 77-6 (25 overs) v Kent

    Matt Cole
    BBC Radio Kent

Kent have made up for lost time at Canterbury after not getting underway until 10 past two.

After putting the visitors in following a delay to let the pitch dry from overnight rain, Michael Hogan and Matt Quinn struck in consecutive overs to leave Northants 27-2.

Captain Sam Billings’ bowling changes couldn’t have worked better, Joey Evison and Grant Stewart both striking with their first ball of the season.

But it’s Stewart who’ll take most of the plaudits for Kent’s first session of the season. He goes in to tea with figures of 5-4-6-3.

For Northants, Ricardo Vasconcelos has hit a stubborn 35 not out in tough batting conditions. He may carry his side’s first innings’ fortunes on his shoulders.

  11. wicket

WICKET Gubbins c Duckett b Fletcher 10published at 16:37 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Hampshire 21-2 v Nottinghamshire 185

Luke Fletcher has the first wicket of his testimonial season.

Fletcher does what he has been doing all his career, putting the ball on a good length and letting the batter make this mistake.

Nick Gubbins obliges here with an edge to second slip and Fletcher roars in delight.

James Vince enters the arena to try to perform his usual Hampshire recovery job.

  12. Derbyshire just about the happierpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Derbyshire 156-3 v Worcestershire

    Dave Fletcher
    BBC Radio Derby Sport

Billy Godleman lost the Derbyshire captaincy in the winter and it appears to have benefited his batting.

The former skipper struck three sixes off Joe Leach - two straight back over his head and the third over square leg - in an aggressive knock of 70 off just 61 balls. But Ben Gibbon took a terrific diving catch at mid wicket to send him back to the pavilion.

Wayne Madsen looks in decent nick too, with some trademark shots among his 11 boundaries as he went to tea on 49 with Derbyshire just about the happier of the sides, having been asked to bat.

  13. Gloucestershire crawl along on slow wicketpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Gloucestershire 71-2 v Glamorgan

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

The visitors lost wickets at the start and end of the afternoon session to leave the match evenly poised, after Glamorgan put them in on a slow, seaming wicket.

With Harry Podmore and Timm van der Gugten bowling tightly, Gloucestershire lost Chris Dent to Podmore for three as they crawled along at a run an over.

James Bracey eventually kick-started the scoring with three fours in an over off James Harris, while Marcus Harris ground along quietly at the other end. But Bracey eventually fiddled at a ball from David Lloyd to fall for 33 on the stroke of tea.

Earlier mechanical problems for the hover-cover, combined with heavy showers, lopped 29 overs off the day’s play.

  14. Postpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Lancashire v Surrey 203-5

A low full toss from Matt Parkinson is sent to the fence by Ben Foakes to bring up the Surrey 200.

Lancashire really need to see the back of Foakes here as they try to get through towards the tail.

  15. rain stops play

Still off for rain in Leedspublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Yorkshire 186-2 (36.2 overs) v Leicestershire

A further inspection at 4.30 at Headingley.

They have been off the field for almost two hours now.

A frustrating wait for 20-year-old opener Fin Bean, who stands just 18 short of a maiden century.

It's his 21st birthday in 10 days' time. What a way that would be to celebrate.

WICKET Organ c Duckett b Stone 1published at 16:16 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Hampshire 6-1 v Nottinghamshire 185

Olly Stone has his first Notts wicket in just his second over!

A good ball which Felix Organ edges and it positively flies into Ben Duckett's hands at second slip and Stone is delighted.

An early breakthrough for the visitors as they look to make inroads in the unreliable Hampshire top order.

  18. Building work continues at Old Traffordpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

    Lancashire v Surrey 196-5

    Old TraffordImage source, BBC Sport

For those familiar with Old Trafford, you will know that the ground is almost always in a state of flux.

The 'Party Stand' has not yet been put up, and will not go up until after the ground stages two Arctic Monkeys concerts in early June.

On the opposite side of the ground, work continues on the ground's expansion.

The hotel is being extended, with the addition of 1,025 seats taking the ground's capacity to 26,700.

All being well, everything will be in place by the time the fourth Ashes Test is staged here on 19 July.

  19. New boy against new boypublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 6 April 2023

Olly Stone will take the new ball for Nottinghamshire in his first game.

Up against him is 21-year-old Fletcha Middleton on his first Championship appearance for Hampshire.

And Middleton gets off and running with a nice stroke through midwicket for four.
