Dawid Malan scored a battling century to lead England to a hard-fought three-wicket win over Bangladesh in the first of three one-day internationals on Wednesday.

The left-hander's fourth ODI ton held the tourists' chase together as they overhauled Bangladesh's 209 all out with eight balls to spare.

On a pitch in Mirpur offering assistance to seamers and spinners alike, wickets fell at regular intervals in the chase.

But Malan hit the winning boundary to put England ahead in the series.

England have won in two of their past three ODI visits to Chattogram, comfortably beating the Tigers in 2010 and 2016, but losing in 2011 by two wickets.

At the 2014 T20 World Cup, England were humiliated by the Netherlands here in a 45-run defeat, with Stuart Broad's side bowled out for just 88.

A dark day for English cricket.
