YORKSHIRE BOWLED OUT FOR 517published at 14:23 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Bess b Ahmed 49

Dom Bess misses out on a half-century, as he launches at Leicestershire leggie Rehan Ahmed, does not make the contact he had hoped for with the ball - and is bowled.

It leaves England's newest Test spinner with 3-89, a decent sounding return that rather smoothes over the punishment he took earlier.

Leicestershire openers Rishi Patel and Sol Budinger have 10 minutes to prepare for their own onslaught.

ESSEX ALL OUT FOR 266published at 14:23 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Critchley c Simpson b Roland-Jones 55

Not your usual wicketkeeper's catch behind.

Matt Critchley's valiant 55 is ended in spectacular style as he hoofs one up in the air well behind the wicket.

John Simpson does well to keep track of it, given how high it goes and eventually takes a falling backwards catch with the gloves.

Essex will be disappointed with 266 given they were 199-3 before Dan Lawrence (105no) departed, while Critchley's wicket completes a sensational seven-wicket haul for Middlesex captain Toby Roland-Jones (7-61).

Nice ovation for Roland-Jones from the Lord's faithful as he leaves the field.

  4. Postpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Lancashire 64-1 v Surrey 442

Keaton Jennings gets away with one off Sean Abbott as he under edges an attempted drive low past Ben Foakes and down for four.

  5. Bancroft joined by TKCpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Somerset 64-2 v Warwickshire

After the wicket on the stroke of lunch, Cameron Bancroft is joined on the resumption by another new signing Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who rapidly up the the place with three boundaries.

Althought both are making their Somerset debut, Bancroft's is a rather delayed debut.

He originally signed for Somerset in 2018 - but had to cancel when he had a nine-month ban imposed following his involvement in the Australian sandpapergate scandal

  6. 50 runs

for Glamorgan's Carlsonpublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Glamorgan 153-3 v Gloucestershire 165

Glamorgan well on top now in the Division Two opener in Cardiff.

Kiran Carlson has hit eight fours to emulate Eddie Byrom's earlier half century - and these pair have now put on 118 and counting for the third wicket.

Not long until the hosts go ahead here.

  7. wicket

WICKET Barker lbw b Stone 19published at 14:18 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Hampshire 215-8 v Nottinghamshire 185

Olly Stone's extra pace sees off Keith Barker.

The batter is trying to work it to leg but is beaten for pace and is given out.

A useful knock, so Notts will be pleased to see the back of him.

  8. 50 runs

for Essex's Critchleypublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Middlesex v Essex 261-9

Essex's hopes of adding a second batting point rest firmly on the shoulders of Matt Critchley now and he takes a single to register a fine half-century.

Last man Jamie Porter is his new partner at the other end of the crease and he sees off five balls from Toby Roland-Jones to get Critchley back on strike.

  9. Postpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Hampshire 210-7 v Nottinghamshire 185

Three fours from Keith Barker are giving some useful momentum to the Hampshire effort.

He is up to 19 very valuable runs from 21 balls.

  10. wicket

    WICKET - Cook c Eskinazi b Helm 0published at 14:12 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Middlesex v Essex 260-9

    Quack quack.

Sam Cook is caught behind by Stevie Eskinazi and Middlesex are on the brink of wrapping the Essex innings up.

Quite the turnaround from the hosts who toiled all morning but have been inspired either side of lunch.

  11. Division Two updatepublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Sussex 91-4 v Durham 376

Great start to the middle session for the visitors.

A wicket apiece for Matt Potts and Jonathan Bushnell as Tom Alsop and Tom Clark have been dismissed.

Cheteshwar Pujara remains there for Sussex, however.

  12. Crawley rolling up his sleevespublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Kent 64-1 v Northants 117

Well, not so much rolling them up as getting rid of them. Zak Crawley has swapped his long-sleeved whites for short sleeves during lunch.

Meat sweats maybe? Or just a longing to believe that summer is here?

Either way, he's up to 24no as Kent eat into the small Northants total.

  13. 500 up for Yorkshirepublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Yorkshire 502-9 v Leicestershire

Dom Bess hits two sixes in an over to carry Yorkshire past 500.

In only the 99th over too.

That makes it six sixes in the innings for the Tykes - all today, after one from Dawid Malan earlier and those three just before lunch from Jordan Thompson.

  14. wicket

    WICKET - Allison lbw b Roland-Jones 8published at 14:04 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Middlesex v Essex 255-8

Of course, they need to keep their wickets for that to happen.

It's a six-fer for Middlesex skipper Toby Roland-Jones, who is having quite the day.

Superb delivery beats Ben Allison all ends up and if his leg wasn't in the way, the bails would have clattered.

  15. Batting point for Essexpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Middlesex v Essex 255-7

Matt Critchley decides Essex need to stop waiting around.

He dispatches Tom Helm to the boundary four times in an over as the visitors rack up their first batting point.

Keep going like that and they could get a couple more.

  16. wicket

    WICKET - Thompson c Hill b Wright 26published at 14:03 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Yorkshire 485-9 v Leicestershire

Back underaway again at Headingley and Leicestershire take the ninth Yorkshire wicket.

Jordan Thompson's departure gives veteran Chis Wright a second wicket.

Last man Ben Coad comes on to join Dom Bess.

  17. wicket

WICKET Holland c Duckett b Fletcher 31published at 14:00 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Hampshire 193-7 v Nottinghamshire 185

Catching practise for Ben Duckett at second slip.

Ian Holland basically guides one into Duckett's hands from Luke Fletcher, who picks up his third wicket.

The lead is eight with three wickets in hand.

  18. 50 runs

for Glamorgan's Byrompublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Glamorgan 118-3 v Gloucestershire 165

Eddie Byrom has brought up his half century for Glamorgan in the first over after lunch at Sophia Gardens.

He takes two off Tom Price to edge to 50 and the hosts are looking increasingly likely to establish a first-innings lead in Cardiff.

Byrom and Kiran Carlson (32no) are closing in on a century partnership too, having rebuilt admirably from 35-3 earlier this morning.

  19. wicket

WICKET Wells c Pope b Abbott 24published at 13:57 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Lancashire 43-1 v Surrey 442

Superb bit of slip work from Ollie Pope!

Luke Wells is tempted into a big front-foot drive by Sean Abbott and drives it into the slip cordon.

It flies at knee height to Pope's left and the England batter takes a super catch as the ball was really travelling.

  20. Postpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Hampshire 190-6 v Nottinghamshire 185

This is where Steven Mullaney will really earn his corn as Notts skipper.

He knows he needs these last four wickets as quickly as possible, but being mindful of not giving up too big a first-innings lead.

Keith Barker is now at the crease for Hampshire and he can be a very dangerous lower-order operator.
