  1. wicket

    WICKET - Burgess b Siddle 46published at 11:40 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Somerset 284, Warwickshire 321-6

A second bowling point for Somerset at Taunton as Peter Siddle bowls Michael Burgess.

With only 12 overs before the 110-over cut-off, a third or even fourth Bears batting point is up for grabs. Maybe another home bowling point.

And another Sam Hain century is on the cards. 12 to go.

But, otherwise, this rain-ruined game already has '10 to five handshakes' written all over it.

  2. 50 runs

for Graeme van Buurenpublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Glamorgan 404 v Gloucestershire 165 & 417-5

Gloucestershire are looking to score quickly this morning to set a total for Glamorgan to chase.

Captain Graeme van Buuren is leading from the front and has passed 50 to help take their lead up to 178.

  3. wicket

    WICKET - Bess c Handscomb b Finan 2published at 11:36 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Yorkshire 517 & 263-8, Leicestershire 415

Dom Bess becomes victim number four of the morning in Leeds as the Yorkshire batters enjoy a good yahoo - and the Leicestershire bowlers enjoy a few cheap wickets.

  4. wicket

WICKET White lbw Evison 7published at 11:33 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Kent 222 v Northamptonshire 117 & 319-9

Kent have a second wicket in the opening half hour.

Joey Evison traps Jack White lbw for his third wicket and now just one more needed to bring the Northants innings to an end.

Their lead stands at 214 - they will have planned for a bit more than that when they started this morning.

  5. wicket

WICKET Hunt c Robinson b Carse 14published at 11:33 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Sussex 335 & 193-6 v Durham 376 & 189

A first of the morning for Durham.

Brydon Carse comes round the wicket and tempts Sean Hunt to have a little nibble - it finds the outside edge and Ollie Robinson does the rest behind the stumps.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice is the new man.

Sussex still need 38 runs, Durham require four more wickets.

  6. wicket

    WICKET - G Hill c L Hill b Wright 67published at 11:29 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Yorkshire 517 & 260-7, Leicestershire 415

A third wicket of the day.

George Hill is the latest to hole out, to his namesake Lewis Hill.

But 40 runs have been added already in 23 balls.

The Yorkshire lead is up to 362.

The sound of chuntering on the increase as the Yorkshire members deliberate on why the Tykes have not declared yet.

  7. Bit gloomy at Headingleypublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Yorkshire 517 & 260-6, Leicestershire 415

Complaints from the fielders as Matthew Revis hits two fours and a six - and they are clearly not picking it the ball up.

    The umpires consult.

George Hill then hits the fifth six of the morning.

  8. 6 runs

Postpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Lancs 291 & 49-0 v Surrey 442 & 292-6/d

Daniel Worrall just strays onto Luke Wells' pads, and the Lancashire opener treats it with utter disdain, flicking high into the stands over square leg.

I did say it looks a good pitch... Wells moves to 37.

  9. wicket

    WICKET - Thompson c Ahmed b Hull 13published at 11:22 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Yorkshire 517 & 236-6, Leicestershire 415

That didn't last long for Jordan Thompson. Nine balls in fact!

One six, one four and out!

    Light a bit gloomy too.

  10. wicket

WICKET Berg b Hogan 56published at 11:20 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Kent 222 v Northamptonshire 117 & 310-8

    Middle stump goes flying!

A brilliant delivery from Michael Hogan does for Gareth Berg shortly after he reached his half-century.

The ball cuts back and beats Berg all ends up, sending the stump tumbling.

Two more wickets needed for Kent - any more balls like that and it shouldn't take long.

  11. wicket

    WICKET - Hope c Patel b Hull 83published at 11:17 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Yorkshire 517 & 220-5, Leicestershire 415

Early wicket at Headingley as Yorkshire opt to bat on.

Shai Hope went to only the second ball of the morning for his overnight 83 - but Jordan Thompson has come and started smashing it.

The intent is clear. The Tykes want a few more. And quickly.

  12. Postpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Lancs 291 & 40-0 v Surrey 442 & 292-6/d

A serene start to the day at Old Trafford, as Luke Wells and Keaton Jennings navigate the opening stages with ease.

It still looks a very flat pitch - taking 10 wickets won't be easy for Surrey.

  13. wicket

    WICKET Helm c A Cook b S Cook 0published at 11:11 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Middlesex 170 & 77-6 v Essex 266 & 211 (Middlesex need 231 runs to win)

Day four hasn't started any better for Middlesex...

Tom Helm last only a few balls before he is caught by a combination of Cooks in Alastair's catch from Sam's bowling.

Certainly not a case of too many cooks there.

Things are looking grim for Middlesex now but the more optimistic fans may say they still have Stevie Eskinazi in and he's now joined by Ryan Higgins who struck 70 in the first innings.

    You never know.

  14. Postpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Sussex 335 & 179-5 v Durham 376 & 189

Sussex take seven from the first over of the day, bowled by England's Matty Potts, including a lovely whip through midwicket for four by Sean Hunt.

They now need 52 for victory.

  15. 50 runs

for Gareth Bergpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Kent 222 v Northamptonshire 117 & 301-7

The first run of the day brings up a half-century for Gareth Berg.

A single is all it takes as he finished last night on 49 - sounds a simple task but he still had to get it done!

Rob Keogh at the other end is on 101 not out after a great knock yesterday.

  16. Keogh's very special hundred helps secure a final day's playpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

A near-perfect scenario for the neutral heading into the final day's play here at Canterbury, with all results still possible.

Those of us wondering what the Dartford Crossing would be like on a Saturday evening were not obliged to find out as Rob Keogh and Gareth Berg kept Northamptonshire afloat with an unbroken 92-run stand.

A year earlier to the day - 8 April 2022 - the same pair added 137 for the eighth wicket against Gloucestershire. That match went to the last possible over before ending in a draw. Will history repeat itself again?

Keogh's hundred - his 15th in first-class cricket for the county - puts him level with the late David Capel in the club's all-time list. "To sit level with a legend - the man who (as head coach) gave me my first-team debut in the T20 and showed faith in me - is very special," Keogh told the BBC.

  18. Division Two state of playpublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

Shai Hope celebrates his half centuryImage source, Rex Features

Yorkshire batted their way into a dominant position on day three, with half-centuries from James Wharton, Shai Hope and George Hill guiding the hosts to a lead of 322 after a well-made hundred from Leicestershire's Peter Handscomb.

A Yorkshire declaration will come soon this morning you feel, before the task of taking those 10 wickets gets under way.

At Hove, 16 wickets fell for 364 runs yesterday - Sussex still require 59 more to win against Durham with five wickets in hand.

Sean Hunt and Oli Carter are the men tasked with guiding Sussex home; key man Cheteshwar Pujara is back in the pavilion after he fell to Ben Raine late last night.

Gloucestershire got themselves back into the contest against Glamorgan, largely thanks to a wonderful 148 from Australian opener Marcus Harris taking them to a lead of 134 at stumps.

Glamorgan will want to take the five remaining wickets quickly and then knock off the runs - easy peasy, eh?

And last, but not least, Worcestershire are favourites heading into the final day at Derby.

An unbeaten 52 from captain Leus du Plooy and 86 from Billy Godleman have put Derbyshire 117 in front, but they only have four wickets in hand, and the visitors batted excellently in their first innings.

  19. Division One state of playpublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

Heading into day four, one game is already done and dusted after Hampshire enjoyed a straightforward eight-wicket victory over Nottinghamshire.

Fletcha Middleton’s second half-century of the match helped the hosts to chase down a target of 132 with ease as they started well in their pursuit of a first title in 50 years.

Essex took control of their game against promoted Middlesex in yesterday's evening session, easily removing Middlesex’s top order for a second time to close in on victory.

Set a target of 308, Middlesex collapsed, as Mark Stoneman completed a pair. Stevie Eskinazi at least reached the close on 24 not out, but his side were 77-5 and need 231 runs to win when play resumes.

Surrey set Lancashire 444 to win as Ben Foakes hit an unbeaten 103 from 95 balls at Old Trafford.

Matt Parkinson took five for 120 but Surrey declared on 292 for six before Lancashire closed on 37 without loss, leaving them with 407 runs needed for victory.

Rob Keogh hit a century for Northamptonshire as they hauled their way into contention against Kent. He helped his side to 300-7, a lead of 195.

Warwickshire's Alex Davies was also in fine form, hitting his seventh first-class ton as his side closed on 307-5 in their first innings, in response to Somerset's 284 at Taunton.

The opening day of the game was lost to the weather so the teams will need to motor if there is going to be a positive result.
