    Warwickshire 302-3 v Kent

Two matches, two innings, two watchful centuries for Sam Hain who follows up his 119 at Taunton last weekend with another impressive knock on day one at Edgbaston.

He's largely played a supporting role but there have been some glorious moments, including several of his nine boundaries in his 198-ball knock.

Worcestershire are fighting back with the ball late in the day against Durham. They've taken three quick wickets, including David Bedingham for 118, to leave the hosts 312-7. Seamer Ben Gibbon has 4-65.

At Grace Road Leicestershire are still going along nicely with the bat. They're 228-2 against East Midlands rivals Derbyshire with Lewis Hill and Colin Ackermann both going past fifty in an unbroken stand of 126.

    Dickson lbw b Hutton 0 (Notts 256 v Somerset 2-1)

Sean Dickson walks at Brett Hutton, but can't get any bat on a ball shaping towards the stumps, and that's a fairly straightforward decision for the umpire.

Cameron Bancroft, with his eyes on an Australia recall, joins Tom Lammonby in the middle.

    Warwickshire 299-3 v Kent

Dan Mousley has his third six, cracking Matt Quinn over long-on. He has 31 from 36 balls and the home side are closing in on another batting bonus point.

  5. Postpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Warwickshire 289-3 v Kent

Daniel Bell-Drummond takes the new ball for Kent. Takes. Not faces.

Why not? His first nine overs only went for 35 and he had Sam Hain on the deck in his last over.

    Surrey 0-0 v Hampshire 254

After a maiden from Keith Barker, Mohammad Abbas opens from the Vauxhall End.

Good County Championship fare this. Good bowlers, good batters, lengthening shadows. Lovely stuff.

  9. Postpublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Warwickshire 275-3 v Kent

Big shout for an LBW against Dan Mousley from Matt Quinn but it looks like it was drifting down leg side and it's another despondent trudge back to his mark for the Kent quick.

Mousley has raced to 23 while Sam Hain is on 91 from 180 deliveries.

    Azad c Simpson b Roland-Jones 33 (Northants 81-3 v Middlesex 149)

Middlesex have their first breakthrough of this session, as Toby Roland-Jones gets one to go away from Hassan Azad and find the outside edge.

Lovely bowling from the Middlesex skipper, and John Simpson takes a fairly straightforward catch.

  11. HAMPSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 254published at 17:42 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

Abbas run out 0 (Surrey v Hampshire 254)

Mohammad Abbas runs himself out without facing a ball after a mix-up with James Fuller who had his hand up throughout.

It could have been far worse, at 39-4 and 88-5, but Hampshire's recovery has ended in rather a damp squib.

Tom Lawes finishes with 4-58 while Ben Brown (95) and Keith Barker (58) are the main reason Hampshire remain in this contest.

  12. NOTTINGHAMSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 256published at 17:40 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Paterson c Dickson b Gregory 15 (Notts 256 v Somerset)

    Abbott b Lawes 2 (Surrey v Hampshire 253-9)

A fourth for Tom Lawes who is having himself a day.

Lawes swings in another well-judged yorker which beats Abbott and rearranges his stumps.

4 for 58 from 16 for Lawes, who is in the team in the place of injured Ben Foakes.

He's produced several stunning deliveries to claim wickets today. Really staking his claim.

    Surrey v Hampshire 250-8

Hampshire have a batting point. This will come as a surprise to anyone who hasn't tuned in since before lunch.

Surrey have the option of taking a new ball in two overs' time. You'd imagine they'd want to do it as soon as possible.

    Notts 250-9 v Somerset

Brett Hutton and Dane Paterson take Nottinghamshire to 250 and a precious batting point.

    Barker c Smith b Lawes 58 (Surrey v Hampshire 249-8)

It's been fun, but all good things comes to an end. Keith Barker's watch is over. This might have come off his glove as Tom Lawes' delivery glides down the leg side and through to Jamie Smith behind the timbers.

Not one for the purist, but Barker takes it on the chin and marches back to the hutch.

The intriguing prospect of an Abbott v Abbott face-off is on the cards as Kyle strides out to join James Fuller.

    Westley lbw b Williams 5 (Essex 25-3 v Lancs 207)

What a start this has been for Lancashire.

There's plenty of life in this Chelmsford pitch for the seamers, and Will Williams gets in on the action, nipping one back and trapping Tom Westley in front of middle and off.

  20. Postpublished at 17:21 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Surrey v Hampshire 243-7

Another attractive swipe from Keith Barker and four seconds later the 74-over old ball flops over the rope.

He and James Fuller have added 34 in under five overs.

Surrey were close to perfect in the opening hour. They have been pretty far from it for the majority of the remainder.
