    Durham 425-9d v Worcestershire 19-0

Poor old Matthew Potts, Ed Pollock drives his first delivery back past him, he throws a hand at it and catches his fingertip on the ball as it races away for four. That's going to smart.

Pollock has barely left his crease but moves to 17 with another driven four two balls later.

    Bright start from the visitors.

  2. Postpublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Durham 425-9d v Worcestershire 10-0

Ben Raine is all-action. Last man out, takes the new ball. What a guy.

Jake Libby and Ed Pollock are the first to face him and Pollock clips his third delivery away through mid-off to get off the mark with a boundary and follows up with another through mid-wicket two balls later.

Matty Potts will open at the other end in a moment but might be out of puff already, he's chased both boundaries to the ropes so far.

    Durham 425-9d v Worcestershire 0-0

Nice quick turnaround at the Riverside. Huddles, fist bumps and umpires. We'll have cricket again any moment now.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Bracewell c Jennings b Williams 13 (Essex 164-7 v Lancs 207)

A handy stand of 43 is broken by Will Williams.

Full of length, he draws Doug Bracewell out to defend and he follows the moving ball to nick to second slip.

Another safely held catch by Keaton Jennings and his side have kept themselves right in the game this morning.

  5. Postpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Durham 425-9d v Worcestershire

The elusive maiden fivefer evades Ben Gibbon once again. For the second season in a row Gibbon (4-92) ends with four wickets at Durham. Harry Finch collected 3-84 with one apiece for Joe Leach and Dillon Pennington.

The heavy roller is out in the sunshine at Chester-le-Street. A few clouds skudding across the sky but nothing to worry about for a while yet.

  6. rain stops play

Raining again at Wantage Roadpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Northants 111-3 v Middlesex 149

They were hoping to start at 12:15 BST at Northants... but it's tipping it down again.

And the forecast is pretty mixed for this afternoon.

  7. wicket

WICKET AND DECLARATIONpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Raine c Gibbon b Pennington 71 (Durham 425-9d v Worcestershire)

Raine does want to crack on, but he's holed-out to Ben Gibbon a yard inside the deep square leg boundary to give Dillon Pennington his first wicket after a day of toil yesterday.

And with that comes the Durham declaration, still 45 minutes before lunch.

  8. Postpublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Durham 422-8 v Worcestershire

Ben Raine has inched across his crease in the last couple of overs as Harry Finch steams in at the left-hander.

It proves a wise decision as Finch gets one to angle into his pads, but given his starting position on leg stump, it's always drifting down leg. Strangled appeals from Finch and the Worcestershire cordon are for nought.

Raine has moved onto 71 from 98 deliveries and looks like he wants to crack on here.

    Essex 157-6 v Lancs 207

    Matt CritchleyImage source, Rex Features

Essex have steadied well and Matt Critchley goes to a 100-ball fifty with seven boundaries.

The latest of them a sweet cover drive to an overpitched delivery from Will Williams.

Doug Bracewell doing a good job so far at the other end.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Coughlin lbw b Finch 42 (Durham 409-8 v Worcestershire)

The 101-run eighth wicket partnership is broken. Paul Coughlin is trapped by Harry Finch and after a long pause the finger goes up.

Matty Potts joins Ben Raine in the middle.

Raine and Coughlin put on an unbroken 213 for the eighth wicket against Worcestershire last June, both posting their maiden first-class centuries in a total of 642-7.

Safe to say the visitors will be glad to see the back of them together in the middle.

  11. Postpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Essex 140-6 v Lancs 207

James Anderson continuing to make it dance around but a slightly full one gives Matt Critchley the chance to punch through point for four.

Anderson then swings one into the pads and Critchley who flicks four more past long leg.

Doug Bracewell has also glanced Anderson to the third man fence and Essex are moving again after that trio of wickets.

  12. Postpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Durham 402-7 v Worcestershire

Paul Coughlin brings up the Durham 400 in the 105th over and secures their fourth batting point with a hook to the ropes off Matthew Waite.

Coughlin is onto 39 and he and Raine have added 94 for this eighth wicket... so far.

  13. Play to start at 12:15 BSTpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Northants 111-3 v Middlesex 149 - start delayed, rain

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

Better news from Wantage Road where the rain has stopped - at least for now - and the ground is bathed in slightly watery sunshine.

Umpires Steve O'Shaughnessy and Nigel Llong have decided that play will start at 12:15 BST, assuming no deterioration in the weather, with 84 overs to be bowled in the day.

  14. 50 runs

for Rainepublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Durham 394-7 v Worcestershire

Rain is causing havoc in Division One but it's Raine who is causing havoc in Division Two.

Ben Raine brings up his half-century from 69 balls with his seventh boundary, his 13th fifty in first-class cricket.

I don't think he wants to stop here, either.

  15. 'Mopping up at Edgbaston'published at 11:31 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

Warwickshire 367-3 v Kent - start delayed, rain

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM

More optimistic signs in the last few minutes at Edgbaston, where the drizzle has eased and skies have lightened.

The conditions have improved enough to tempt the head groundsman Gary Barwell and his team out to start mopping up, and umpires Richard lllingworth and Martin Saggers out of the pavilion to test the outfield for themselves.

Judging by the way Saggers is pushing his foot into the turf, the going is no better than good to soft, but they’re trying.

The forecast for this afternoon is not all that promising, but after running out of time to press home a winning position in Taunton last week – where a day was lost to the weather – Warwickshire will be eager to take advantage of even a short amount of playable time today.

83 more runs in 14 overs would give them a full hand of batting points – and at the rate Dan Mousley was driving them forward in the closing overs last night, with seven wickets in hand, that would be a realistic target.

Beyond that the Bears will have to take a view on the time available, but with five quick bowlers of repute in their line-up will presumably fancy their chances, even though the pitch looked pretty good for batting yesterday.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Harmer c Wells b Bailey 0 (Essex 121-6 v Lancs 207)

A third for Lancashire inside 25 minutes this morning and it's now the visitors eyeing a first-innings lead.

Tight line and a good length from Tom Bailey. Simon Harmer fiddles at it without going anywhere and the edge is right in the bread basket for Luke Wells at first slip.

Someone needs to stick around with Matt Critchley.

  17. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Surrey 42-0 v Hampshire 254

Well it was a fun 25 minutes...

The rain is falling lightly but the radar suggests it might be about to get worse. Dom Sibley isn't completely satisfied and walks off backwards, surveying the skies.

  18. sun

Sun is shiningpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Durham 382-7 v Worcestershire

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

In this fixture last season both Ben Raine and Paul Coughlin scored their first centuries in the County Championship.

The two of them came together last night after Durham had lost three wickets for no runs in the space of seven deliveries. And so far in the morning sunshine they have continued to make progress.

Their partnership last night was worth 58 and is now 74. Raine has 42 and Coughlin 32. Durham are also 18 runs away from a fourth batting point and while poor weather is forecast later today, conditions for batting are good at the moment.

  19. Postpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Surrey 41-0 v Hampshire 254

Keith Barker and Mohammad Abbas are nagging away just outside off stump but Rory Burns and Dom Sibley are happy to shoulder arms and watch those through until the cows come home.

When the nagging accuracy temporarily evades Barker, Burns clips him into the leg side off his pads to run three and keep the scoreboard ticking over.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Rossington c Wells b Anderson 7 (Essex 114-5 v Lancs 207)

Another for James Anderson! His fourth of the innings.

But this isn't one for the career highlights.

A wide one earlier in the over was nicely cracked through backward point by Adam Rossington.

But in his second attempt, he's glued to the crease, flicks the hands at it and only flashes an edge to the right shoulder of Luke Wells at first slip.

And within 20 minutes, Lancashire are right back in the game.
