    Essex 100-3 v Lancs 207

Under way on time at Chelmsford where Essex hope to continue their strong work from yesterday.

Lancashire were whistled out cheaply and from 25-3 in reply Dan Lawrence, now 39, and Matt Critchley, 23, shared a smart partnership to see the home side end the day in the ascendancy.

They’ll be eyeing a lead today if the weather holds.

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

Not quite the monsoon some had been predicting this morning, but still a delayed start with light rain falling at Wantage Road.

The covers are on with players and umpires keeping a watching brief.

Meanwhile, Northamptonshire supporters have been pondering what might have been had Ben Sanderson been fit for the opening match of the campaign against Kent at Canterbury.

He picked up three wickets in eight balls during his opening spell yesterday, and told the BBC afterwards that his opening over had been "one of the best I've bowled since coming to Northampton."
