Jack Brooks is 38, he'll be 39 in June.

The question is - at what age are you too old to wear a headband? It's not like Brooks needs it to really keep his hair in place.

Although tennis greats Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer have carried on throughout their careers. Maybe the huge sponsorship deals involved had something to do with that!

I've got one somewhere in a drawer at home, which I used to wear to play tennis and squash. Now if I stick it on, my wife cringes and my young children just laugh!

  2. Play to resume at Lord's shortlypublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Middlesex v Notts 252-5

Weather permitting, remember - this will be at 2:10pm.

Plenty of grey skies hang over St John's Wood, but it isn't raining.

Ben Duckett had a great day here yesterday, scoring a maiden first class century on this ground.

He'll resume with his captain Steven Mullaney on 119 not out.

    Northants v Hants 367-5

After impressing in his first two games for Northants, Aussie seamer Chris Tremain is finding things tougher in this one.

Ben Brown swats the final ball of his latest over for four and is 31 not out, with James Vince on 139.

  4. Lunch at Hovepublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Sussex 357-9 v Yorks

Leaden skies at Hove with the occasional patch of blue.

Fisher is testing Crocombe out with the short ball - as the batter ducks a few and then stands tall to defend the last delivery.

    That's a late lunch here - taken at 1:48pm.

Bet the commentators are feeling a bit peckish.

    Sussex 357-9 v Yorks

The gulls are squawking around the ground as Yorkshire toil for this final Sussex wicket after taking four wickets for 29 runs this morning.

Edwards almost cuts Crocombe in half, as the batter ducks into a ball that whistles past his midriff.

  6. Postpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Northants v Hants 357-5

Hampshire race past 350 following the resumption at Wantage Road with a boundary each for Ben Brown and James Vince in Luke Procter's latest over. That is a third batting point for the visitors, but they only have four overs left to try and reach 400 for a fourth.

  7. Postpublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 441 v Lancashire 4-0

Apart from the no-ball, Lewis Gregory is on the money with the rest of the over, making Luke Wells play and getting one past him with a beauty.

Headband warrior Jack Brooks to share new-ball duties from the other end.

And he starts with a no-ball, too!

"I think when Ollie Robinson was out, the third batting point was a distant thought."

  9. Postpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Sussex 354-9 v Yorks

Jack Carson steers the final ball of Matt Fisher's over to the third man boundary as he and Henry Crocombe post a 50 partnership for Sussex's final wicket.

If there is any comfort in this for Yorkshire, it must surely be that these two have shown there are few, if any, demons in the pitch.

  10. Lancashire to batpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 441 v Lancashire 2-0

The players have returned to the field at the County Ground.

Lancashire openers Luke Wells and Keaton Jennings have a big job on their hands as they try to eat into Somerset's big score.

Lewis Gregory has the new cherry in his hand.

    False start! No-ball!

    Somerset 441 v Lancashire - lunch

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset commentator

A good morning for Somerset: career bests for Tom Abell and James Rew, the tail wagged vigorously and the rain held off.

Another five-for for the evergreen Jimmy Anderson was some consolation for the contingent of travelling Lancashire supporters.

This is very frustrating for Yorkshire as Jack Carson flicks Mickey Edwards away fine four.

There will be no play today at Worcester.

Prospects looked bleak following overnight rain - and the weather forecast was not good. And that is exactly how it all turned out.

Lunch was taken at the official time of one o'clock. And umpires Ian Blackwell and Chris Watts did have a wander out to the middle just before the repast of a most acceptable chicken chasseur and rice was served.

But then it began to rain again - and, with an already saturated outfield, the decision was taken.

Back tomorrow for more, weather permitting. Although Sunday's forecast is now a little more optimistic.

  16. Postpublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Sussex 333-9 v Yorkshire

There's a chance here for Mickey Edwards to pick up his first wicket in English cricket.

His four previous first-class appearances were all in Australia, the country of his birth, the most recent of them in December last year.

No joy, though, as Sussex add five from the over include a leg-bye off the final delivery.

  17. Postpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Sussex 328-9 v Yorks

Jordan Thompson is smashed away square on the leg side for four and Carson moves on to eight.

Frustrating for Yorkshire after making great progress in this session of play. We will continue as the home side are nine down.

  18. Optimistic signs for Lancs batterspublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 441 v Lancashire

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire commentator

The pitch looks a belter to bat on, and Tom Abell suggested as much last night. Lancashire must believe that's the case and the way the Somerset bowlers were able to hit cleanly and without too much risk should give Keaton Jennings and co plenty of optimism.

A career-best score for captain Tom, a last-wicket stand worth 48 and five wickets for James Anderson, plenty for the cricket lovers in Taunton to enjoy.

  19. Postpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Sussex 322-9 v Yorks

A big LBW shout is turned down as Carson is struck on the pad but its not out. Might be a bit too high.

Carson gets away with a bye and Crocombe gets a single off the next ball in front of square leg.

Single to Carson on the on side - and we're staying on the field as Sussex are nine down.

  20. Waiting goes on at Canterburypublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Kent v Essex 164-1

They've had an early lunch but the Spitfire Ground is still damp and the wait goes on for some play.

The umpires plan to take another look at 2pm, so it's back to the school of cards or watching TikTok videos on mobiles in the dressing rooms.

Essex skipper Tom Westley is 71 not out and Nick Browne has 54.
