There will be no play today at Worcester.

Prospects looked bleak following overnight rain - and the weather forecast was not good. And that is exactly how it all turned out.

Lunch was taken at the official time of one o'clock. And umpires Ian Blackwell and Chris Watts did have a wander out to the middle just before the repast of a most acceptable chicken chasseur and rice was served.

But then it began to rain again - and, with an already saturated outfield, the decision was taken.

Back tomorrow for more, weather permitting. Although Sunday's forecast is now a little more optimistic.

There's a chance here for Mickey Edwards to pick up his first wicket in English cricket.

His four previous first-class appearances were all in Australia, the country of his birth, the most recent of them in December last year.

No joy, though, as Sussex add five from the over include a leg-bye off the final delivery.

Jordan Thompson is smashed away square on the leg side for four and Carson moves on to eight.

Frustrating for Yorkshire after making great progress in this session of play. We will continue as the home side are nine down.

The pitch looks a belter to bat on, and Tom Abell suggested as much last night. Lancashire must believe that's the case and the way the Somerset bowlers were able to hit cleanly and without too much risk should give Keaton Jennings and co plenty of optimism.

A career-best score for captain Tom, a last-wicket stand worth 48 and five wickets for James Anderson, plenty for the cricket lovers in Taunton to enjoy.

A big LBW shout is turned down as Carson is struck on the pad but its not out. Might be a bit too high.

Carson gets away with a bye and Crocombe gets a single off the next ball in front of square leg.

Single to Carson on the on side - and we're staying on the field as Sussex are nine down.
