    Sussex 319-9 v Yorks

Jordan Thompson takes over the bowling from Matt Fisher.

The third ball is driven and sliced away to third man for four. Bit streaky, that.

An overpitched ball is driven through cover for four.

A lovely shot that a top six batter would be happy with.

    Sussex 311-9 v Yorks

Crocombe is looking a little more comfortable against Matt Fisher as the number 11 gets into line for the first four balls and then ducks a bouncer.

Carson is watchful against Coad at the other end... The last ball of the over is leg side and nudged away to fine leg for four via the pads.

Should be time for a couple more overs before a scheduled lunch of 1:10pm.

Chris Tremain takes the ball for Northants, but rain returns just two deliveries into his opening over and that is lunch.

Tom Prest was the only batter dismissed in two mini-sessions, with Hampshire adding 59 to their overnight score.

James Vince is 134 not out and Ben Brown has 19.

SOMERSET ALL OUT FOR 441published at 13:01 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 441 all out

The Somerset crowd have loved it, the Lancashire bowlers have hated it, but the last-wicket stand is finally ended.

Jack Brooks goes for a hook off Tom Bailey, with the catch well taken down at long leg by Tom Hartley.

Brooks contributed an entertaining 19 in a stand of 48 off 36 balls with Jack Leach, who ends 40 not out from 32 balls. Leach really getting into Bazball mode with that knock!

A terrific score from Somerset, having been 24-3 and 80-4 yesterday morning.

    Northants v Hants 345-5

Looks like Ben Brown wants to get on with it.

A mistimed lofted drive brings him three into a big gap on the off-side, and he goes aerial again to clip Luke Procter away over mid-wicket in the next over.

The Northants skipper tests him out with a bouncer but Brown has time to paddle it down to square leg for one - he is 18 not out.

  6. Postpublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Sussex 307-9 v Yorks

Ben Coad has 4-45 and nearly has a fifth when he hits Crocombe on the pad with the third ball of his over.

Adjacent but a bit too high.

The number 11 gets a couple with a neat drive through cover and is beaten outside off next ball.

One more nudged away to point.

  7. 'Decent progress' by Hampshirepublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Northants v Hants 340-5

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

The ball is moving off the seam for the quicker bowlers and there’s been a few lbw shouts when the ball has nipped back but Hampshire have made decent progress in what play we’ve had this morning.

With the clouds forecasted to be hanging around most, if not all day, Northants will be under pressure when they get their turn to bat.

  8. Postpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Sussex 304-9 v Yorks

Henry Crocombe is the Sussex number 11 as the sun shines on the Hove field.

Fisher will continue after taking the wicket of Nathan McAndrew, who accounted for nearly all the Sussex runs this morning.

Carson plays and misses outside off.

    Somerset 428-9 v Lancashire

Jack Leach is not hanging about.

He gets four off Tom Hartley with a hoick over the offside field that bounces just short of the ropes.

Next ball, there is no such luck as he dances down the wicket again and hits a big six over deep midwicket. Leach moves to 29 off 26 balls - proper Bazball stuff!

And Jack Brooks is on the act as he hits successive fours off Saqib Mahmood.

This is turning into a very good last-wicket stand.

  10. Postpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Northants v Hants 332-5

There is movement there if the bowlers find the right spot but James Vince is looking in full control at the moment.

He eases Jack White through mid-on for four, repeats the shot for two to mid-wicket and then effortlessly dabs square for one from the final ball of the over to keep the strike.

Ben Sanderson continues from the other end and Lewis McManus is standing up to the stumps to try and apply a bit of pressure on his former team-mates.

    Robinson c Lyth b Coad 1 (Sussex 304-9 v Yorks)

    Well, this is awkward.

Ollie Robinson and Jack Carson are in the middle without a run or a ball faced between them.

    And there's another!

Robinson takes a step down the track and steers the ball straight to Adam Lyth in the slips.

Sussex have lost 4-27 so far today.

  12. Postpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Northants v Hants 325-5

Ben Sanderson overpitches and Ben Brown opens up his stance before slamming it past mid-on for four.

Sanderson thinks he has him with his next delivery, but that may have been going down leg-side.

Brown is 10 not out and James Vince has 122.

  13. Vintage Leachpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 404-9 v Lancashire

Lancashire throw the ball to spinner Tom Hartley and the eyes light up for Somerset's last pair.

Jack Brooks helps himself to a boundary before Jack Leach dances down the track and clears Saqib Mahmood at long-off for four more.

Great stuff from the Somerset and England favourite and it brings up the 400!

    Carter c Bean b Coad 64 (Sussex 302-8 v Yorks)

Get Carter! A loose defensive prod has done for him.

Caught at fourth slip off the bowling of Coad.

Yorkshire have three in less than 20 minutes of play.

  15. wicket

WICKET McAndrew c Hope b Fisher 23published at 12:38 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Sussex 302-7 v Yorks

More runs for McAndrew as he drives Fisher through the covers for a couple.

Four more punched through the covers off the back foot.

He's rollicking along at well over a run a ball. A short pull is pulled away for four more - and that's the second Sussex batting point.

Out! A rare defensive shot is edged to the keeper and a bright and breezy cameo is over. 23 off 15 balls.

  16. Postpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Northants v Hants 318-5

Ben Brown has his first boundary with a square cut to end Ben Sanderson's latest over.

He soon finds himself back on strike following a James Vince single at the start of the next but can make nothing from it as Jack White keeps him pinned on the back foot.

Hampshire have 10 overs left to try and pick up an extra batting point or two.

WICKET Siddle c Bell b Mahmood 17published at 12:32 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 393-9 v Lancashire

A first wicket since April 2022 for Saqib Mahmood.

He ends Peter Siddle's entertaining brief cameo as the Aussie edges behind.

A nice moment after a long 12 months recovering from a stress fracture in his lower back.

  19. Early lunch at Lord'spublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Middlesex v Notts 252-5

Same scenario at the home of cricket as in Cardiff. An early lunch is being taken. Inspection at 1:10. Ben Duckett must be itching to get back out there after his unbeaten 119 on day one.

Postpublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Somerset 390-8 v Lancashire

Some tail-end fun from veteran Australia bowler Peter Siddle.

He comes down the wicket and hits George Balderson through the covers. Then he rocks back and hoists one over cow corner for a very big six.
